game world is too big now, population is too spread out, game too easy, graphics are now really, really aging, needs a MAJOR update instead of just character models which takes them ages to do. everything rest of the WOD expansion is just the same old bad texturing.
Adding a new region to spread out the population even more, meh. cashshops to buy instant level 90s, it looks like SWTOR already, less ppl on a server; more income through the p2w moneyshops.

Wow for me is best ever game of all times and platforms. Period. And no stats, faked or real, will prevent me to enjoy and play. And very close 2nd for now is Swtor.
Only game when I can return even after a half year or even more of absence and i feel immediately at home. Home, sweet home. :-)
I tried to go back and play recently and promptly got so abused I quit. I am now playing FFXIV ARR. I would have loved to play WoW but without friends or a guild to group for in dungeons the random LFD community is so toxic it chases you out unless you have an iron will to withstand the abuse as a healer. When my husband asked me why I was taking the abuse I asked myself why indeed am I and I logged out and unsubbed.
New players starting from scratch on a server will not enjoy this game without some good people they know and play with the random person you might meet in a pug is more likely to abuse you then be nice. Sad really the game has so much going for it. The aging player base can have its game I guess they're happy without an infusion of new players.
is the expac bring back talent trees and actually being able to make a choice with your character every level?
no?

WoW proplem is... its too simple. u just go quest npc and kill or click objects. there is ZERO interactivity with game world. if u are player that is more interested about jorney then rushing max lvl, tis game offer nothing. all u do between 1-89 lvl is pointless. max level u are able get points for gear and do dungeons for gear.
Tryed WoD beta and its dint had nothing new or interesting. just difrend zones with same quest types an daily quests.
wish WoW had grown with me all tis years but its turning self more childish and easy.
But, considering the game is over ten years old, 6.4 million still subscribing is unbelievable. Sometimes I wonder how old I'll be when they inevitably pull the plug on this game; then it hits me quickly: I do not want to think about being that old
Not that I am splitting hairs here, but its at 6.8 mil, not 6.4. That may not seem like a huge distinction when it comes to wow, but it is when compared to all other MMOs.
I saw that but wondered whether it was a typo or whether a more recent number had been given out in the conference call - the 6.8M number being the number for the end of June. And - as I mentioned above - as WoD is unlikely to launch before the end of September !!!!!!! we should expect the Q3 number to be even lower.
It happens every time when the content patches stops coming before the next expansion. I guess it's on purpose, let people rest a bit (on the summer) before the next expansion hits, and it feels even more fresh etc, also there will be those "wow subscriptions UP by so and so much with expansion X launch!" allowing you also to use the content coders to push the new expansion to finish line.
I am one of those ex-subscribers. I have since been playing Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and it has been such a wonderful experience!
It has that Final Fantasy RPG feeling, with tons of complexities and things to do in the game, it is a really really good MMO!
I've tried a few mmo's since I stopped playing wow and have settled on FFXIV too. It's every bit as polished as wow, has great lore, loads of content and comes from a company that I feel really loves what they do which is evident everywhere in-game.
WoW is still the king but there are just as fun experiences elsewhere these days, maybe people are finally catching on.
Even as the numbers lower it won't die. It was too large. Shoot, UO is still going! As is EQ1, and DAOC! A good mmorpg doesn't die... it slowly fades to black.
I personally have no plans to return. I didn't for panda, and don't plan on it for this upcoming one.
Blizz makes enough money on other titles, to keep it going until we're all dead.
6.8 mil subs, after a drop of 800k. 6.8 mil devided by 800k = 8.5. WoW can have this same drop happen 8 more times before it reaches the subscription numbers of SWTOR, the 2nd most played MMO in the west.
The drama is indeed begining lol.
That argument is similar to jumping from a roof and wondering when it will start to hurt
If you loose 30% of your playerbase in 2 years, you don't have to wait until you hit the ground to start worrying. If you are a anticipatory person that means.
I wasn't "making an argument". The guy I quoted said that the game could only sustain 5 more losses like that before it shuts down as if its nearing death. I corrected him that it could actually take 8 more losses like that, which is a very improbable thing to happen. I am sure you would agree with right?
If your only intention was to correct his false calculation, then I can agree with this
But why you have brought the numbers in context with SWTOR then if I may ask? That way I got the impression you wanted to imply that there are many more floors to pass until it'll hurt. That was actually the part of your post I was referring to. I can't quite believe this context was completely unintentional, right?
He said after 5 more drops like it, the game would vanish. I pointed out that it could drop 8 more times and still tie the 2nd most played MMO in the west....of course that would hurt, but it obviously wouldn't vanish, right? All of this would have been clear had you left the full quote in there, not just cropped out my response alone. I guess you quoting me out of context was also unintentional, right?
But, considering the game is over ten years old, 6.4 million still subscribing is unbelievable. Sometimes I wonder how old I'll be when they inevitably pull the plug on this game; then it hits me quickly: I do not want to think about being that old

Maybe SBFord will clarify.
He ninja corrected his OP after I pointed it out, its correctly 6.8 now.
Originally posted by JDis25 MoP is completely over and has been on a steep decline a few months after Siege of Orgrimmar. The expansion is on the way, and nobody is particularly worried.. lol
This exactly it, many of us that I know seen this coming, and many of us (including me) have stopped our subscription until WoD when the new calls is in for us to build our garrison and battle the Draenor's orcs pours in from the portal to drive them back. SOOO KEEN!!!
Well, rumours of WoW's demise seem to be, yet again, a tad exaggerated, the game despite being at the end of Panderia's lifecycle, still has 6.8m players, which is still 4 or 5x as many as the next 'biggest' sub game out there, and with pre-orders already of 1.5m Blizzard are probably laughing all the way to the bank, after all, those pre-orders are more than the total population of most of the other MMO's out there, and in some cases, larger than the total box sales of those MMO's, maybe the 800lb gorilla needs to go on a diet, it appears to be gaining weight
Blizzard will be fine, I'm sure. 6.8 million subs after almost a year of no new content on a 10 year old game is still way better than would be expected. I played WoW for 8 + years, I haven't played in about 8 months and I'm not sure if I will be returning for WoD but I can say that this is typical end of expansion drop off. After WoD they will probably rally up to over 8 million subs then it will start to steadily and slowly drop off again.
The game is 10 years old, nothing you can do to make a 10 year old game totally new again. Still the fact remains that 6.8 million subs after almost 10 years is pretty sweet.
So here it is first more people are getting computers to game on and building them is getting easier, next the consoles dont truly allow mmo, so because our entertainment has gone social media via internet computers have taken over gaming. for example look at the new titles that are released via beta, you have Nosgoth and i will say wow to that awesome title your console players will enjoy that title, and then for those gears of war fans via console en masse dropped Zombie Monster Robot and again wow, now to our mmorpg group we are no longer the top prioity so we are waiting around for good games but the market has bot forgotten about us i have found new companies producing gaming mice like Razors 12 key mice all over the place more and more companies want in. Now world of warcraft people just getting there pc's are jumping into that title because 1 its a big name and 2 it does not require that good of a pc build and 3 its an easy to learn game for new pc players. So what does all this mean well dont bank on Blizz running this market too long there game while it has content it lacks luster and as we become more evolved and complex people it lacks creativity, it is a limiting game and most people have left because the minds need more those people are long used to the repetitive now boring content, I would say be on the look out for titles like skyforge wich will bring more thinking to the tablle for those of us who love mmorpg's and keep your eyes on other titles like ESO which is still evolving cough cough Skyrim fan, and also an all time favorite RIFT, where in this game you can be the simple non thinker or the thinker who customly creates there character to fit them to the T. I think most gamers over hype wow to make themselves feel that the money they have dumped into blizzard was not invein, but it doesnt matter in my opinion because it is only a game that entertained you for however long it did. Also i played Archeage and not much there for world of warcraft fans so dont put money into that stock wait that one out they are way in the left field with that one non the less the game looks badass when its not bugging out from common glitches but gameplay ughhhhh.
Of course it will decline. Its old. Nothing lasts forever. If you think it will die anytime soon you are wrong. Games have survived on far less subs for years.
Does Wildstar play into the drop in subs? I'm not sure if Wildstar's launch falls into Q2 or not.
Both WS and ESO launched in Q2
ESO 04/04/2014
WS 06/03/2014
I think if the number of lost subs was directly related to the number of subs gained in those 2 games, then it would not be a very positive thing for either of them, more often than not, though, people sub to more than one game. By march 2015 i think we'd have a better idea if either of those games has benefited, or not, from WoW. Given WoD imminent release though, you might find that the reverse is more likely, and it becomes a question of whether or not they return to those games once the 'varnish' of WoD has worn off. Games become old very fast sometimes
I think if they offered Vanilla ,advanced difficulty (reversing much of the streamlining )and world pvp servers ( meaning servers where there is no instant access to raids , battlegrounds and dungeons ) they could get a lot of people to return . Including me .
I doubt that will ever happen though and its only really wishful thinking on my part . WoW will get a boost by WoD for a few months and then will continue it slow but steady decline .
I think if you want a better picture of what has been happening to WoW subs, just take a look at the interactive graph on MMO-Champion. Requires Javascript to be enabled to see.
The subs now are equivalent to June- Sept 2006 subscription level... that was vanilla WoW, and unlike these last two expansions, the trend moving forward was on the rise even at the end of the expansion. What's different now to then is that you had folks who were still working on the content. Nowadays, they've completed it all within a few short weeks of it's release (i.e. patch drops et al).
I think the trend is going to stay in a downward turn... it will still make them a hefty profit, but I expect it to settle into the 3 million sub range by then end of WoD.
Albion looks pretty cool, but based on the video on their website it also looks point and click only..... Does it have WASD movement? otherwise it has no chance of pulling me away from any game
