Not true I was one of their most devoted fans played them all and did not cry about the ending. A matter a fact not one of my friends cried about it. The majority were millions if you think that they didn't complain because they didn't finish well you are just living in denial.
And all my friends hated it while also being dedicated fans. /shrugs
You can deny it as much as you want, but the opinions are still very conflicted when it comes to the game's end.
Bring it up on just about any gaming forum and you'll see a repeat of what's taking place here. Some calling the game's ending absolutely great while others find it abyssmal.
While the vast majority doesn't give a crap either way and either never finished it or finished it and moved on to the next game on their list. Both the defenders and the "haters" are probably minorities.

Originally posted by SBFord I never said he wrote it. He was the executive producer, the guy who makes every final decision in the game.
From all I've read, there was a vastly different ending, the type we should have been given but that was ultimately nixed by, you guessed it, Casey Hudson.
Irrespective of that, I hope he reinvigorates himself and finds a new passion. He did some amazing work at Bioware over the years that was sadly overshadowed by 10 minutes of ME3 and an abysmal decision.
Ok but he also designed all three mass effects yet some people are happy hes leaving just because they didnt like the last 10 minutes. Like forget everything else that was awsome about the series right, like the combat, the journey, the graphics, the DLCs and the characters? He was the director of the first mass effect also.
Now EA will probably put one of their own producers in charge.
He ruined the entire story, time investment. Something people were passionate about and invested in. What made the ME games so special. Not just the last 10 minutes but made all that time investment pointless. They pissed off enough people that the forums for a month in the spoiler section alone was getting 5+ new pages of posts non-stop 24/7. Sure it's a bit silly but it's something that a massive amount of people were attached to undeniably.
Thourne nailed it. Doesn't mean the next game is going to be any good but a little surprised that they didn't can him back then.
Just about every gaming website that interviewed them about their next games also asked "Did you learn anything from ME3's ending?" every time for a year after ME3 came out, that's how big of a stir its ending had caused.
Was suppose to be "5+ new pages of posts every minute..." But yeah. those that found no fault in the ending definitely were the minority on this. It was crazy how hard those forums were being hit. Can't say that I've personally seen that to often.
How were they the minority? millions of people played the game. Forums doesnt show the millions, only the vocal and usually the ones that most vocal are the ones that are bitter about something. This website its self shows you examples of this all the time. Majority of the people who bought the game and finished it arent making a big deal out of the ending. Those 5+ new pages every minute are still a minority in the millions that bought and played the game.
How many times have you ever seen a forums sustain in one of it's many sections 5+ new pages of posts every minute 24/7 for a month straight. Not many. That's ignoring all the other non-spoiler sections. Rarely does such an outrage like that really happen. SWG NGE comes to mind.
This site doesn't even get hit by spam bots that bad on weekends.
Come on that's total BS and you know stop spamming 5+pages 24/7 every minute. Just because you can repeat the same thing every minute doesn't mean it happened on their forum or by the majority.
That statement makes no sense.Understand how observation works right? I am saying that keeping up that kind of sustained posting indicates a shitload of people weren't happy. Very few were in favor but there were some. When an event is so unique and out of the norm. It indicates something big is happening. You understand how fast of a post rate 5+ pages every minute 24/7 for a month is correct (in the spoiler section alone)? About the only thing it indicates is that I pretty much had no life at the time and the situation was so unique that I literally got entertainment out of watching the forums for a few weeks.
I said it represented the majority because it was such a unique event. Not that it was the majority posting.
Side note: Not you, but I like how my spending and gaming habits have become subject to another poster. Typical for these forums. Look I got nothing to gain out of this no agenda. I am not spreading bullshit. I am stating what I observed and how unique that it was.

Majority of people on this sites forums hate and say game like swtor and tera are failing yet the recent financial reports thats been posted show the opposite.

That relates to me how? Because I have such a big history or parroting such? You just painted with a very broad brush something that is easily determinable. My posting history definitely isn't spotless but it's changed for the better for the most part. So can we stay on topic instead of attacking me.
The motivations for people posting on this site and the ME 3 situation is very different as well I think. With that said I doubt this site has ever seen such a post rate like that, ever. "Unique."
Really late edit. Just adding on here don't feel like making another post, didn't change the above. I reread some articles from back then because clearly I wouldn't be looking through the situation with the same outlook I initially had at this point.
Peoples reasons for disliking were vastly different. A lot generated around god child and the generic choices that weren't really choices if we are going to be honest. Those denial posts and articles early on calling the fanbase essentially entitled pretty much set the stage for a incredibly unique situation. Add on that Bioware hyped this ending relentlessly by saying it was going to be so dark. I think my reaction was that felt unfinished and generic. Half-assed maybe?
I think it could be held up as a lesson as far as what happens when your community manager and public relations drop the ball or say something silly. So trivially but entertaining to watch. I don't remember everything in great detail. What I do remember is what I stated here. That the spoiler section alone not counting any other sub-sections. It was getting such a stupidly high p.p.m. rate for long period of time. This site even in it's prime on a big release I don't think has ever came close to that. It was so bad that they just stopped moderating the spoiler section if I remember correctly?
I am not a game developer, but I know that in pre-predouction the script is being finalized as every member of the team working on the title starts from the foundation of the script. That means that there is a multitude of people who must have approved the final script for Mass Effect 3. So many people must have read it in every department being able to go - "wait, what?".
Games are a team effort and are heavily compromised due to lack of time. KOTOR 2 is a great example. With it's rightful ending it would surely have been superior to KOTOR 1, but LucasArts being.. incredible stubborn and annoying said no, to letting Obsidian make a post-release patch restoring the games rightful ending.
In the case of ME3, it's not unique. Many of the best films have had nr. 3/the final part of a trilogy being incredible weak and timid.
The Matrix, Pirates of the Carribean, Godfather 3, even Star Wars and Lord of the Rings have multitude of people thinking they all end on weak note.
Star Wars - the last one was inferior to empire strikes back, the last lord of the rings had like 5 freaking endings, batman rises had the most stupid script and dialogue I had seen in a while, x-men 3 put the first two to shame, pirates and transformers completely lost what had made the first entry so fun and entertaining. The Matrix Revolutions is my personal biggest offender of a movie that completely lost itself. The first on was a milestone, one of the best films I had ever seen and they completely lost it.
There is nothing new about all this. And compared to other franchises I don't find Mass Effect 3 particularly disappointing. It didn't live up to the strengths of Mass Effect 2.
Jade Empire was initially the game that made me go WTF. With the embarrassing 9.9 from IGN "one of the best RPGs ever" award I found myself puzzled at just how superficial that games combat was. Now that was a story that didn't had a satisfying conclusion. A part of me always loved the universe and what they tried to do. I found the first Mass Effect a lot better but still a compromise.
Neither a good RPG by itself nor a good third person shooter by itself, the game boosted yet another save-the-galaxy story. It's antagonist, Saren was not particularly stimulating or inspiring either. The game had a few decent party members and a few great consequences, but I personally found Dragon Age Origins to be a bigger success in this aspect.
What I took away later from Mass Effect was the world building, the music and atmosphere. To me it was Mass Effect 2. That to me is perhaps the most improved sequel of all time. Superior in every way. Genuinely great combat, tighter. Had like half of its squad members being genuinely interesting, threw out the larger save-the-world-sthick and replaced it with focusing on the characters. The Salarian Doctor, the assassin, Legion, Jack, Miranda. There was so much more than the first game. Rex was the only guy who was just moderately annoying along with Garrus. the rest of them could die a fire.
So I don't subscribe to Mass Effect dropping the ball. I see yet another community acting like Mass Effect was some horrible offender. It was not. All the games had design flaws and flaws in the script. Casey Hudson strikes me as a great developer who was insanely passionate about Mass Effect. All my respect to him and the team that did their best with Mass Effect. I can't think of everyone besides CDProject RED who is trying to do the Bioware thing better than Bioware themselves. And that's only because of Witcher 2. Lets see if they can do 5 games in a row that are as strong as that game.

A lot of what you wrote is your personal opinion, so I skipped quoting all of that (since I also didn't want a long quote ^ ^), but one of the writers came out after and added that Casey and Mark locked themselves away from the rest of the team when writing that and gave them no chance for input.
The writer in question then asked for all his quotes to be deleted and to no longer be associated with them, since I've a feeling he realized he made a massive mistake (job security) by outting that.
Still, you can find some of the old articles such as this one in Google when that happened. The internet does not forget, but information can get obfuscated when needed
Beyond that, I sometimes feel like i'm the only one that thinks ME3's problem was the same as DA2's. Its dev cycle wasn't long enough. Prelaunch the devs kept saying how much MORE ME3 needed to cover: many, many more variables; all the choices, cover the stories, squadmate relationships, etc., yet they still crammed it all up in the same dev cycle that ME2 had. And ME2 didn't even try to cover most of the choices seen in 1, and this is outside of pointing to ME2's weak main story (honestly, it mostly just felt like a bunch of character side stories).
Honestly, go in to ME3 with the majority of squadmates from 2 dead. Outside of two OBVIOUS replacements, it's actually really hard to notice where they're missing. All of them ultimately proved meaningless outside of an EMS score (and I will add that promoted MP characters are worth a lot more than them). Which I think is the major issue everyone had: all the choices were meaningless outside of the EMS score.
But I do have to admit, the 3 key moments of ME3 were very well done. The rest, imo, not so much.

I agree, and I'm glad they've taken plenty of time for Dragon Age Inquisition, hopefully they'll do the same for ME4.
I think the choices were probably getting too much for them, and put them behind schedule. Which probably part of the reason ME4's doing a clean slate. They said some choices will carry over, but I suspect they'll be more along the lines of a few things that your Shepard did getting mentioned, and maybe one of the more minor NPCs running into your new character.

One good thing about ME, they do listen to their fan base, not just a few but the majority. I really enjoyed that last mission and get together with Shepard and crew at the apartment. It was very engaging. Well done. I also enjoyed the replay-ability of saving different crew members throughout the series.
It's not easy making decisions that will be second guessed by others for the rest of eternity.

while i agree that ME3's Ending could be better i never hated it (also since i am a Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan fan when it got a twist like TTGL i liked it ) ) and i don't think it ruined the guy's hard work for all these years at all and i thank him for all of that. i could easily compare the ending with another game that released in 2012 but some people have a different motivation for bashing Bioware sadly whether intentionally or unintentionally. (not everyone of course but some of them even complain about problems that exists in almost all games if not all)
my top MMOs: UO,DAOC,WoW,GW2
most of my posts are just my opinions they are not facts,it is the same for you too.
While I wish him well in the future, I'm very glad at this news. Mass Effect 3's ending was a disservice to all fans of the series. Hopefully ME4 will thrive and benefit from his leaving.
Ah, the first honest commentary I've read from an MMORPG-employed writer.

That's sadly how the gaming community is. One bad decision and they forget everything ever done including that outside of the ME series. They pick up their pitchforks and start the witchhunt. I found the ending pretty average but the ME series remains my best gaming experience of all time for that i am thankful to him and all the others who worked on it.

Look at the production quality of the original Mass Effect and the number of bugs it had along with the stupid AI.
Now compare them to the smooth and fluid gameplay along with brilliantly done environments in ME2 and ME3 which were done after EA's acquisition.
Also, look at DA:inquisition and it's usage of the Frostbite engine. It's only because EA owns them both that they have access to it.
Even SWTOR wouldn't have been possible without EA.

I'm a fan if ME series and by no means did I get upset over the ending. So please don't lump everyone into the way you think. Just because a few Internet forum poster expressed their anger and filed a petition by no means equals "all".
The ending was bad! A total disgrace of one of the best RPG trilogy games I have ever played!
ME3 in itself was a fantastic game...... up until the last 10 minutes!
No one complained (well almost no one) that Sheppard died in the end. As deep Down we all knew that this was going to be his ultimate fate! He already gotten his second chance in ME2 afterall. His sole purpose to end the Reapers.
It's just how they did the ending that was a complete disgrace! It felt completely disconnected from the rest of the game.
Like they had a sudden writers Block or something and With approaching deadline, got all stressed out and in panic just cobbled this whole ending together!
As that is how it felt to the vast majority! All the Choices you made through the first 2 games were just thrown straight out of the window in those last 10 minutes!
And lets not forget, that (before they finally fixed after months of outrage) you were FORCED to do endless repetitive multiplayer maps in the first months to be able to get the best possible ending! That alone caused a huge outrage on itself and how badly ME3 was managed through it's development process!
I am still completely baffled in how Casey thought it was a good idea to force multiplayer upon us, from which the vast majority play the game for the story and don't want anything to do with it!

You were extremely quick With quoting me, as I already corrected myself within two minutes lol.
The high point of ME3 was the Genophage missions and the Quarian-Geth resolution missions...I enjoyed the multiplayer more than the ending in ME3 if that puts things into perspective.

Look at how bad dragon age 2 was.
Look at how SWTOR crashed and burned and is now a joke in the MMO community.
Look at the lack of KOTOR and Neverwinter games.
Yea bioware is NOT in the spotlight it used to be, there's no way you can deny that whether it was all because of EA or not.

Yes I meant that whole forced multiplayer fiasco.
LOL, okay that makes more sense. And I see the edit now.
I was just wondering how the heck I could've missed that. xD

If you have stats about a majority of people enjoying ME1 more than 2/3 show me. From what i have seen, there is no definite conclusion. Each game had its own plus points and has its own fanbase.
Dragon Age 2 wasn't bad by any means. The only part which sucked in it was the overuse of dungeon environments. The gameplay was fine. The critic score on metacritic for DA2 is 82/100. And please don't come to me with the User score. I trust professional critics far more than some whiny spoiled teenagers on the Internet. You are also leaving out how much acclaimed DA:Origins was.
SWTOR crashed and burned? What dream are you living in? The game's been doing well since last year and had the highest populations in the West after WoW before ESO and Wildstar launched which are still in their honeymoon period. The game has been said to be very profitable by EA twice which was proved in the Superdata survey showing how much revenue it is generating.
Studios can't continue on tons and tons of IPs. They have a limited numbers of devs. Instead of those two, we now have ME series, DA series, SWTOR and the new one they are showing at Gamescon.
To me and a lot of others, BW still is a very respectable company. Just because some people love to jump on the hate bandwagon doesn't mean that i will too.

Agreed, but it wasn't just the ending which was the problem. The whole plot about the Catalyst was a complete ass-pull. The Reapers' purpose was laughably stupid, especially given Sovereign's claims of Shepard not being able to comprehend it. They completely threw out the idea that the Reapers were only able to wipe out the Protheans due to the former's control of the ME relays through the Citadel, enabling them to divide and conquer with only sporadic resistance. The fact of the matter is, they'd never faced a unified galaxy before, and it was hinted in both the first and second games that such a thing would pose a serious threat.
And what about the whole 'human reaper' thing from ME2? Everyone in ME3 acted like it never happened, and it's never explained why they were building it, and the plot of ME3 renders the whole thing pointless.
Don't forget the useless 'Star Child' bullshit. It served no purpose whatsoever but to piss people off.
The endings themselves have been done and discussed to death, so I won't remark on them except for one thing: Yes, I wanted a happy ending to be possible.
The character-driven moments in the game were incredibly well done, but the rest was just... blech. It was written by a reverse George Lucas; great dialogue but horrible overarching story (with Lucas being the other way around).
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

To me right now as a longtime bioware fan, mass effect is in need of some revisiting and has gotten a bit less interesting every title. Dragon age 3 HAS to be good or that title will be put to sleep because of the previous failure of 2, and swtor is already dead. Maybe they'll come back with this new IP too, but compared to the company I once revered for their work in kotor, baldurs gate, dragon age origins, etc ...the bioware today is struggling badly.
While I wish him well in the future, I'm very glad at this news. Mass Effect 3's ending was a disservice to all fans of the series. Hopefully ME4 will thrive and benefit from his leaving.
Just my 2 cents.
I will agree on one thing. Star child was bullshit.
On to the rest of the things.
Why is the Reapers purpose stupid? We saw with the Quarians how AI developed and went to protest against its own masters? It was explained in the game that AI evolved very quickly and they were much more efficient than living organisms. So why do you think that over time they wouldn't decide on wiping out the living organisms? You also forget that this notion came from direct experience of the Leviathans which experienced their Thralls being wiped out numerous times by their synthetics. They didn't want a synthetic race to be so advanced that it wipes out every organic life in the galaxy ultimately leaving no thrall for them to control or even end up destroying them. It has also been shown that Leviathan were extremely arrogant thinking of other species as their servants only which they deemed exposable once they built the Catalyst to prevent species advancement beyond the point that can cause the problem they wished to avoid. They left the younger species be so that organic life in the galaxy would continue. I would also suggest that Sovereign's claim of Shephard not being able to understand came from this very arrogance itself which was a characteristic of Leviathans who ultimately programmed the Catalyst.
Even the Reapers using other species to build themselves is a sound strategy; preserve a species while strengthen oneself for the next battle. Divide and Conquer is always a better strategy than fighting a unified galaxy, i don't see what's the problem here. Why do you want to risk casualties or even maybe a loss? The final galaxy did put up a decent fight but the initial damages were already done. Didn't you see the Alliance lose 2 entire fleets at the start not to mention the countless others it lost during the game? The other species also took heavy casualties before Shephard managed to unite them. It was not a completely unified fleet at the end but just some pieces put together to provide a distraction.
The Human Reaper was seen only by a few. I agree that there were barely any references to it save for in the beginning but i don't see the point of bringing it up in game 3. That plan was foiled and it didn't have any impact except for the Data collected from the base. It would have been interesting though if this data was actually the Prothean weapon instead of it being randomly found on Mars imo.
Anyways, like i said before, the ending was average to me but not as bad as a lot of people claim it to be.

You want me to take you seriously and yet to continue to use the same cliches against SWTOR that the haters on this forum are known for. No matter what you think, SWTOR is doing well which has been proved statistically numerous times. You calling it "disgustingly boring" shows your opinion of the game and not some universally accepted fact. And it was a revolutionary MMORPG to many because it brought the RPG back in MMOs with its stories and decisions. It was also the first to go for a fully voiced quests which has always been its plus point when compared to other MMOs.
And you thinking the internet fanbase deserves precedence over critics is also why i can't take you seriously by any means. The internet fanbase has shown itself repeatedly to be made of some of the worst types of people, especially the vocal minority.

Ah, the first honest commentary I've read from an MMORPG-employed writer.
My faith in the human race has been restored.
