Wondering why? Subscription question

sidebustersidebuster Member UncommonPosts: 1,712

I was wondering, why do people buy subscriptions to games in anual sums (1 year) or 6 months. Why not just do the 1 month at a time. I always notice people posting and saying, "I got the year subscription thinking the game would be good and now I have 10 months left."

I just want to know from the people that get the subscriptions that are more than a month (3 month, 6 month, 1 year)

Do you get it because it is paid at once with a discount? (like daoc, if you pay the 1 year, it is like 10.99 a month as opposed to 14.99)

Or what?

It's the reason you already mentioned.

Longer you subscribe, the cheaper it is per month. However I find the difference is negligible and even if I thought Id play the game for years, I still pay month by month cause you just never know.

I wouldn't buy a year subscription unless I had already played the game for a few monthes and decided that I liked it. A friend of mine did the year sub thing with Puzzle Pirates, but he had already be playing for about 2 monthes when he did that.

If you're going to do that, buy the box, buy a game card, and if you're still there at the time your card expires, go ahead and buy the year sub.

I only bought a 3 month subscribtion twice for WoW, Because I knew I would stay there for quite a while (and I did). but nowadays, I only buy one month subscribtions, because I can't stick to one game for longer then a month anymore. maybe its just me, but after I played 2 mmorpgs (Ragnarok Online about 1~2 years, WoW for 1 year, and a few come and go mmorpg's) for a long time, I seem to miss the "magical" feel of mmorpg's.

Most people take long term subscriptions because of the discounts offered.

Personally, I never take long term subscriptions. I might enjoy a game now but that's no guarantee I'll still be enjoying it 3-4 months from now. Plus there's always the risk of some SWG-like nightmare sittuation arising.

Plus, most of the discounts for long-term subscriptions are pretty minimal. There's no way I'm going to consider tying myself into a 3 or 6 month contract when I'm only going to be saving the equivalent of buying a Coke or cup of coffee each month.
