Curious - But need some questions answered

Hey everyone!

I've played MMO's for a while ( EQ , EQ2 , UO , DAoC , SWG , EVE , CoH , WoW , GW - you get the idea) and I'm very curious about FFXI. I love grouping and exploring as well as crafting - and a good storyline helps. I was wondering if FFXI is for me. Is it hard to start as a new player? Can a new player do and have fun crafting? ( making $$ and useful items for low levels ) Also, is the world diverse and contain lots of cool and interesting quests? And is it too late to play and have fun in FFXI - the game dead?

Thank you for looking at this post.

Thanks in advance!

Well for me it has been very fun and enjoyable. People say the economy is infalted well it kind of is but in just a few hours and by the time I was level5 I had 50k gil. So its not hard to make money. So far I have had a fun time with the quests and cut scene's. The game in my opinion  is far from dead i see so many people running around. There is plenty of places to explore and I havent really dabbled into crafting but from what I cant tell its kind of cool, and this is a very group freindly game too. If you can find someone with a buddie pass you can try it out.

    Playing Fallen Earth.

FFXI inflated really bad after Christmas....thanks to IGE :-T Its really become out of hand. 51k is not alot. One item alone can cost you around 2million now!

FFXI you have to do alot of waiting...if you have played WoW then you will see how things can be a little sluggish. Waiting on a damn air ride can take up to 5 min....waiting on a party can take up to 1sec to 2hours.....Im sorry when I find myself waiting....I ask myself? Why am I paying for waiting around? (but you can farm around while you are lfg)

    FFXI is really group oriented cant solo much at all. Iv met alot of good peeps because of the group oriented system. I think it makes tight bonds in game.....kind of the plus side. Does have a good story line as well....love the prom quest ^_^;;

All in all I would "not" go back to the game...The amount of time you need to put in the game is way to much.

If you like getting addicted to mmo's this one is a good one if you have time. If you don't have time then look somewhere else.

I made alot of friends in this game. (but there are some beeps in there too). Leveling isn't really slow. You can basically gain a lvl per hour up to lvl 40 if you had a constant group that knew what they were doing. After that it starts to scale up.

Everything is exspensive and I mean everything. Do research lots and lots of research and you can do well for yourself exspecially if you like crafting. Alot of people say crafting is exspensive and it is once you get to lvl 50 or so, but you can make a killing on lower lvl stuff too.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the great replies. I'm glad to say i JUST bought the game and now its downloading this mega patch that will consume my soul. I'm very excited but some final questions for the players.

    1. What is a good server to start out on *hopefully someone can give me a world pass? :D* I heard some servers have dismal economies. What is a good economically stable server with some good people?

    2. Was thinking of going Black Mage and subbing Red Mage. When should I start to level my red mage subclass? I kind of want to stick to my primary and later on level my sub.

    Thanks in advance

Well I play on bismark, the economy seems okay there. As far as a class well i went monk but one thing Ilike is you can always switch your pofession and work on a different one for awhile and then switch back.

    Playing Fallen Earth.

whatever you do, dont get a worldpass to Fairy, we've probably got the worst economy in this game.

I would start with rdm and take it to 18 and then change to blm after getting the subjob quest done. I would also lvl whm, its a nice BLM sub as well.

As bad as luck gets guess what server I was selected to be on? Fairy. I'm level 16 and having a blast as a BLM - harhar - and I dont think I will switch. I have looked at the auction house prices and yes, they are high, but also you can sell your stuff for high prices too. I mean is the economy THAT bad to where I should switch to another server? I have a LS and having fun but dont want my descision to bite me on the ass later on.

If youre in a good LS and are enjoying yourself you should probably stay. Good company is way more important than pricing imho; and you could always move later on if you change your mind. Plus, we need new players on our server image

I heard that Asura was the most expenvise server. Fire Crystal stack=25k!! Alot of ppl from that server have requested a WP from me for my server (Ramuh) which is concidered one of the cheapest.
