Is there a class to summon and maybe or maybe not, buff those summons? and have them do most if not all the dmg?
If so, name and some comments on the class/race.

Um yes, there is a class called "Summoner." Once you do quests to get specifics summons, you can have a total of 8 I believe (at this point, no one had Bahamut yet). They are mostly used as healers/support before level 70. After level 70, they are a great DD.
You have to first get a job to level 30 before you can e a summoner though. I would suggest White mage, so you can use it as a sub for summoner.
You mean Diabolos, and yes, people have him already. The title you get for getting him is "Heir to the Realm of Dreams". Other than him, there's sixteen summons, you forget the spirits. You do mostly use the avatars, but the spirits can have their uses.

If you were including Diabolos, then you miscounted at eight. There were eight avatars *before* Diabolos, one for each element (Ifrit--fire, Shiva--ice, Garuda--wind, Titan--earth, Ramuh--lightning, Leviathan--water, Carbuncle--light, Fenrir--dark). I don't think Bahamut's available yet, but you may well be right that he will be soon.

Dear, Dear. Bahamut is not summonable, and at your level, you should know better!
Now, to answer the original question.
The Summoner job in XI works like this: You can summon avatars, with their own HP bars (only one at a time). They each get more moves as you level. They drain your mana pool as long as they are out. Every 45 seconds, you can choose one of its moves. The moves are varied, and range from the moderate to the powerful. The job is difficult, in that wisdom and experience are needed to know which moves to pick and when. Summoners are capible healers, are second only to Bards in group enhancement magic, and can deal damage when nessessary.
While any racial avatar can play any job, this job is the least flexible. You will rely almost entirely upon your mana pool, and Taru-taru have the most mana by far. When other races compete, they will have a more difficult choice between equipment that provides more mana, and gear that boosts other aspects of the job (such as avatar accuracy).
