I too was starting to think that game was nothing but a rummor. However, now that the interview is published, that game looks awesome. I can't wait to chop someones head off.
They publish an interview after months of nothing which states nothing of real importance. Only developer babble with no facts supporting any of it. The graphics look like EQ1 . literally.
This game was announced to launch 2 years ago. They're notorious for missing every date they announce. If you think this game is anywhere even remotely near complete , your foolish. This game has never been tested by anyone in the public yet. They are planning on having 10k people in 1 world. Where did I hear that one before? They have a team of about 15 people..
these guys are sneaky bitches. Just look at some facts.
1. they missed every major deadline and announcement they've ever made.
2. They communicate with the public maybe once every 6 months and all it ever is , is some lame interview that means nothing , showing terribly outdated graphics and no game mechanics or actual progress at all.
3. They say they don't want any hype ut yet they leave up public forums and game site but never update it with news or anything worth mentioning.
This game will end up like DnL. Watch and see. An overhyped stinker. All signs point to it.
Know why games like this usually have rabid fan followings? Because the makers promise the world with their features but are too inexperienced to know they won't ever be able to deliver it.
I'd hate to say this, but he's right....those screenshots could be graphically edited and whatever. The fact of the matter is they are just screenshots and graphics. Its not showing the game they are promising...it just shows they have completed a part of something they promised, but you never know what they had to go through to get those screenshots like that.
Anyway, point is, the developers are inexperienced as he said.....IGN said the same thing! They just dreamt of making this game....I couldn't believe what he stated in the interview:
Our commitment to Darkfall is a given. Were proud to report that were in the final stages of production. Our community can look forward to a lot of new Darkfall information and material, and of course, the chance to playtest the game.
Why the hell does he call it a Playtest when it has not even been tested with the public at all...beta test hasn't started.....and he thinks beta is just a play test. So they haven't tested how its going to run on the other 1000s of different types of PCs, havent checked how it runs for people in other countires and its in the final stages of production. I'm not flaming the game....I'm flaming that paragraph of text which to me, means utter bull****. I mean I would seriously feel like a dumbass believing what he said in that text just their.
And I hate dev teams who lie openly like that and think their community is dumb enough to believe that kind of statement up above. I don't know what you guys think but as the above post said...the interview is all promises, nothing is real unless they show us more films or finally start this beta.
1. they missed every major deadline and announcement they've ever made.
they withdrew beta in 2003, because they managed to land financial backing and a publisher.. This way they could develop the game to the stage where it is actually competitive with the big titles on the market..
2. They communicate with the public maybe once every 6 months and all it ever is , is some lame interview that means nothing , showing terribly outdated graphics and no game mechanics or actual progress at all.
love shooting yourself in the foot eh? As you already mentioned yourself, they're a small team, they cant compete with hollywood size companies that spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on PR and marketing.. they're spending all their resources on actual development
Terribly Outdated graphics? Lemme tell you a thing about PvP games.. There's something called playability when hundreds of players are concetrated in a small area.. There's server load and theres strain on systems that causes lag and choppy clients.. They are using a low polygon count to reduce server load and make the game more smooth on lower spec systems..
Outdated graphics? Well the game isn't meant for carebears like you.. its made to be playable and to make large scale PvP viable and enjoyable.. Go back to your shiny Item driven carebear games with safezones and PURRRTY graphics.. DFO community doesn't need ya
3. They say they don't want any hype ut yet they leave up public forums and game site but never update it with news or anything worth mentioning.
Repeat the first paragraph of 2. They used to interact tons with the community and they got burnt.. They don't have the capability to focus mass resources on interaction and community..
The game is in the final stages of beta preparation.. If they spent their time justifying graphics to ppl like yourself, they wouldnt have come this far..
Find another EQ clone, this game is one for the PKs who are worried about actual content and not stupid unplayable graphics and the usual garbage content..
And no.. It wont end up like DnL, DnL is and was always a game for carebears, with lots of purrty inane content.. They didnt build it to support mass pvp from scratch like Razorwax/adventurine did.. DnL is an EQ clone.. DFO is another breed for another audience..
They aren't inexperienced.. Some of the designers have over 10 years experience both as gamers and developers.. Some even come from bigger companies like FunCom.
In fact, unlike your blockbuster favourites these guys don't have a marketing department rushing a buginfested beta to make money faster.. They take the time they need. Apart from this, they arent putting five truckloads of aftereffects and lighting on their screens to fool the public.. They are concerned about making a ingenuitive and interesting game, not manipulating their audience with graphics you'll never see ingame..
your obviously more worried about superficial makeup and not actual ingame content.. You and your kind are the reasons MMOs suck so bad these days.
WE want MANUALLY AIMED combat, CLAN WARFARE with high stakes, LOW POLYGON COUNTS so large scale PvP is smooth.. Ever tried playing FPS on high ping? Right.. This is a PVP game for Clans, if the game is gonna be capable of supporting large concentrations of people, sacrifices need to be made.. DFO will deliver, its just not a game for you.. lucky for you the market is flooded with those games.. Have another pick.
n4zty you are right about graphics and eye candy crap....but he is right about promises. They neglect their community a bit too much. And you are wrong for speaking the way you spoke thinking you know the quality of the game, but in truth you don't...you just know what they promised.
I don't grudge you for having hopes nor do I grudge you at all....but don't have high hopes for this game.
Your statement about 10 years experiences was eaten up and spitted out by this statement im sorry to say:
"Darkfall has been in development for approximately five years, which is bound to raise some questions. During this period, the competitive landscape has changed, with more PvP online worlds in service now than ever before. The team members have little previous experience making computer games. The SF3D engine technology is unproven, and so are the server and network code, assuming Aventurine is using its own. On the publicity front, the game has had limited visibility."
The above is something warning you not to get your hopes up for this game.
I to be honest I was wrong about saying they are lying. They are just trying to keep the public from getting upset by not admitting to their promises being broken. When they say they are in the final stages, its probably another year of development atleast. But atleast there is some progress. I don't hate them..But I won't keep my hopes up expecting this game to be released.
What does IGN know about PvP games that the player community doesn't?
There's bucketloads of vaporware games on the horizon and this will continue to happen, but no game whatsoever has managed to attract the attention of the whole PvP community like DFO has.. Their design vision is something of a PK wetdream. No one else has ever given us that much.
Of course their SF3D engine tech is unproven until we've actually seen it.. But sure as hell they couldve gotten an Unreal engine instead if they really wanted to.
Thing is, these are innovative developers.. They dont just want their share by milking the market with another eq clone, they are gamers themselves..
TBH not giving these developers credit for being bold, unlike the rest of the EQ cloning, $-hungering blockbuster mmo churning companies, is stupid. Sure it could well be a shot in the dark if you look at it through your naysaying glasses, but to me it is worth this shot.
No one else dares to think outside the box or target a niche audience, DFO did and they have my faith for that. If DFO turns out bad, which i highly doubt, im out of MMO gaming for good. I'm just not wasting more time on Softcore milking scams such as WoW or EQ.
I want the real deal and obviously i cant expect that to happen from the big budget companies. They don't make what they can't make millions on. I'm a player killer, i want high stakes, i wanna feel my heart racing and know that i got my ass on the line. I want a competitive, hostile, full loot, open pvp, playerskill-centric gameworld with politics, hatred, griefing, losers and winners.
I'm rooting for the dark horse here, they're the only developers i respect (oh and maybe Wolfpack/UBI for Shadowbane even though they definitely have their weaknesses)
Let the niche audience have DFO, this is one for the people who've been waiting for years for another UO, AC:DT or a WORKING SB... If it fails, well... you'll see alot of heartbroken PKs.. End of story.
I share the frustration of some of the stragers in here.
I started with Ultima Online around it's retail release; and as soon as Trammel sucked all the life out of the game- I quit without looking back. Some of my friends were playing EverQuest; and when I found out there was no PvP- I said screw that- this game is for noobs.
I thought more PvP leaning games were on the way since UO basically pioneered a genre... I remembered all the Doom clones after it first came out... but wouldn't ya know it- apparently the entire online gaming world is full of whiney, sniveling fags. They took the whole genre over before it had a chance to shine.
Today, the only reason PvP is a niche market is because a lot of people just don't know how sweet it is. The average gamer cares about fun. Maybe these people plaguing the MMO genre need alternate universes where they have complete control and needn't worry about risks because they need a replacement for the universe they have to wake up to in the morning... but most people just wanna have a good time.
PvP-leaning games will one day begin to overtake PvE-leaning games because they are just more fun; plain and simple.
Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.
I don't think he's doubting the abilities of the game, just it's chances of being released/sucessful.
A lot of people have no trust in new comers, I posted a thread a while ago about this problem. Thing is you'll get burnt and be more cautious the next time, but try to hold your doubt aginst those who have scorned you please and not teams that you know nothing about. There is absolutely no solid evidence that these people are anything like other flop development teams. You say that we have no cold hard evidence to trust them, well you also have no evidence to not trust them. Sometimes you have to have faith and think, "It's not like these are the same guys that did DnL"
Also remember that Adventurine is European. How many Euro MMOs do we actually see these days? They are stationed in Athens, which is why we don't hear good things about them on IGN and so on. They probably don't have time to leave the office and fly to America, just as critics don't have time to fly to Greece for one game. That's why you don't get third person reports on their finanical/progress situation. Personally I think if they have been going for as long as they have updateing along the way, then they must have a pretty strong funding backbone. And seeing how a few community members have actually been to the head office bringing back things like videos and photos, I hardly think it's a hoax.
Don't be mad because DFO doesn't update information every 2 days to your likings. This game is for raw PvPers and people who want to experince an PvP MMO that we can actually enjoy.
This game will, in my opinion, will be by far the best MMO to hit the world. You deny now because you haven't played it, and you are probably fired up about the fact that its owning the Dark and Light game you probably are hype about. This interview really has me excitied, as ever other interview has. When beta hits, I bet thousands will come running looking to play the game.
"but no game whatsoever has managed to attract the attention of the whole PvP community like DFO has.."
what are you living in la la land? No one know or cares about this game. Ask any mmo mainstream players and they will tell you they never heard of it. I don't know where you pull your fanboy facts out of. Your ass?
DnL all over again. When will the fanboys learn? It's like an endless cycle of stupidity.
oh any by the way - DnL had about a billion times bigger following than darkfall will ever. At it's peak it had a good 1,000+ people on it's forums at any given time. Now it has like 40 hehehehe
"they must have a pretty strong funding backbone."
well I hate to break the news to you. But there has been talk in the past that has shown that Aventurine is nothing more than Razorwax - one in the same people. If you look up the hosting for Aventurine.gr - it's hosted on the same network as darkfallonline.com and razorwax.com. Now why on earth would a Greek investment company be hosted here on the same networks? They just moved to greece because the labor is 10 times cheaper than in Norway.
not to mention the fact that they're application for "darkfall" trademark in the States was rejected because of that other game series named Darkfall published by Adventure Company, XXV Productions. So they're shit out of luck already there...
Aventurine is the merger of Razorwax A/S which is a norwegian company and their partners in Greece (with the funds), together they established Aventurine SA and moved production to Greece, for lower costs.
Norway is the most expensive country in the world. I live here, I should know.
And that copyright thing is gone. There's an old computergame or a boardgame called Darkfall. Darkfall Online is a registered trademark both in Asia, the U.S and the EU now. Think again.
Oh and regarding your mainstream comment.. This hasn't caught on with the mainstream community. It's a hardcore PvP game. It might suit non PvP'ers as well because it has alot of PvE content, but in reality the game's mechanics are hardcore.
Someone kills ya, you lose everything your carrying. Most carebears don't wanna deal with that. We do.
Actually if you do another search, this is what turns up:
ya just like they rejected the idea that theres nothing wrong with their trade mark application. But when you go look it up at http://www.uspto.gov/ , you can see it was clearly denied.

You think again. There is no trademark for "DarkfallOnline" or any application for that term in the USA filed by Razorwax or Aventurine. Look it up.
"Darkfall Online"? : Sorry, No results were found for your query.
The only thing that comes up is the denied trademark app for "Darkfall".
"There's an old computer game or a boardgame called Darkfall. "
Wrong again. There is a series of PC games called Darkfall that are fairly new and published and that is the reason their app got rejected and won't ever be able to use the name Darkfall here.
and last but not least.. If they have some big money funding company in Greece (a country where it is ilegal to run and publish games by the way) than why do they have such a small team size? Wheres the big bucks to put together a professional team??? Instead they settle for 15 or so amateurs who took a good 4 years already to produce nothing of consequence????
Hey I am going to open up a new company tommorrow. Our main market is going to be, Space, Defence, Aviation. Doesn't mean we will have any $$$. If this Aventurine company , whoever they are ,was worth anything than there would be press releases and all types of info spread across the net about them. Only thing you come up with is some tiny mention hidden away at the ass end of the internet somewhere.
TSR how does it benefit you to be such a stubborn naysayer? You will not convince anyone of anything, especially by telling the Darkfall community that there is no Darkfall community. Videos have been released, articles and screenshots have been published by major gaming websites. If this is a hoax, its an amazingly disciplined and motivated hoax. Hell, for a game that is not even in beta yet, five articles with renders in December and an article with updated screenshots and information in January is pretty good.
Granted, even the biggest fans are tired of waiting, but very few of the fans who are following it at this time will be disappointed. Like Nasty has so politely pointed out, the community following Darkfall at this time are concerned with playability and a specific ruleset rather than graphics, items, quests and crazy mob ai or epic dungeons. When it gets down to it, the excitement around darkfall is its devotion to providing us full loot and freedom to kill anyone. Even if it was only a step above 2 dimensional graphics, most of the current fans would not be disappointed as long as it provided free and open pvp and full loot. Therefore, not so many people are concerned with Aventurine having huge amounts of funding or the doctoral status programmers. We would like a beautiful game, but a simple ruleset will satisfy more than anything else that is slated to come out.

1. Like DnL, they were not happy about most their deadlines, the game didnt look as good as they wanted it, and they announced this to the public, they announced they were not happy enouph with the game and needed more time, they didnt just skip deadlines... they had very good reasons for us and for them. These people should be thanked for this, no one wants an unfinished game.
2. This is because they arnt going to overhype the game like every game out their just to make a few bucks (DnL, D&D, WoW,) they want to gradually let people come into the game, when the game is released, reviews will sell the game, people hyping that the game is actually good will sell the game, every overhyped game just attracts the wrong people.
3. What the hell is this sapose to mean? why the hell would they not have forums up? they still want a community you dolt. These people go into large development phases that last up to a year, in that time they try to get as much work as possible done instead of talking to the community and just making the development phase delayed.
You obviously dont know jack about this game, your comments show that.. try to research a game before you try to judge it.
These devs are real game player, they know what we want, unlike tools like you and most devs.

There are several possibilities available to us in this situation, however, the most likely answer is that Adventurine has filed twice for the same name. Or an existing conflict with the original copyrighted name "Darkfall Online" arose. Disclaimer: I do not know the former as fact, therefore, I may be incorrect. The observation is based purely on assumption. However, for those who enjoy creating panic in the community, let me make something extremely clear: the name Darkfall is live trademark as reported by the USPTO. That means the name belongs to Adventurine. That means that it is the name that will appear on the box. I suggest that gr8britain understand legal procedures before he begins to try and dissect them. It is a classic occurence in many patent cases when a mark is generic/descriptive. Just like filing for summary judgement in civil and criminal cases is a common occurence in district courts.

OWNED completely.
TsR we told you idiot to keep your mouth shut, its obvious you dont know anything abot the game in no way shape or form, only a hater with nothing to back his shit up. I hope you will be quiet from now on, its obvious no one will take your side (believe you) because there is no reason.

Now let me make something clear. Whoever posted that is a fucking idiot who has no clue what they're talking about. I've done many trademarks before.
That DOES NOT mean they own it, and they DO NOT own it. A "live" trademark simply means it's a live application still in the system that wasn't abandoned. It doesn't mean the applicant owns any rights to anything.
A trademark with a "REGISTRATION NUMBER" next to it (not a serial #) means it's a registered trademark own by the applicant. They don't have one because it was never accepted. They only have a serial # which means nothing.
Owned? I think not. Go back under your rock and don't try to argue with me again. Everything that I've said is fact and truth.

I don't know what you guys think but as the above post said...the interview is all promises, nothing is real unless they show us more films or finally start this beta.
tsr:
you're the ignorant fool
they withdrew beta in 2003, because they managed to land financial backing and a publisher.. This way they could develop the game to the stage where it is actually competitive with the big titles on the market..
love shooting yourself in the foot eh?
NO re, u lost. Head over to the next game.
n4zty you are right about graphics and eye candy crap....but he is right about promises.
(The above was taken from here at IGN!!)
So they're shit out of luck already there...

and also - I remember when someone posted a thread saying he once wrote in to contact@aventurine.gr and got a reply from "business@razorwax.com"
wake up and smell the pretty little flowers. There is no funding company or publisher called Aventurine..
old news and it was rejected a long time ago..
Aerospace & Defence Source
Aventurine S.A.
*********
*********
*********
Greece
Organisation type: Company
MainMarkets: Defence
Company information:
Software development and related services
Their company also sponsors a racing team in Greece. Get your facts straight, your lagging behind.
"old news and it was rejected a long time ago.."
ya just like they rejected the idea that theres nothing wrong with their trade mark application. But when you go look it up at http://www.uspto.gov/ , you can see it was clearly denied.

"And that copyright thing is gone.Darkfall Online is a registered trademark both in Asia, the U.S and the EU now. Think again."
Only thing you come up with is some tiny mention hidden away at the ass end of the internet somewhere.
stop being so gullible.
We would like a beautiful game, but a simple ruleset will satisfy more than anything else that is slated to come out.
double post.
My glass is half empty. Drink up bitches.
These devs are real game player, they know what we want, unlike tools like you and most devs.

since it's all been said before, old posts on the DF forums in response to past trolls such as yourself:
now for uspto.gov
now for uspto.gov
OWNED completely.
TsR we told you idiot to keep your mouth shut, its obvious you dont know anything abot the game in no way shape or form, only a hater with nothing to back his shit up. I hope you will be quiet from now on, its obvious no one will take your side (believe you) because there is no reason.
Dark-Merlin
tsr57... i remember you from the dnl boards. A real pvp hater if i recall correctly and a ddo/vanguard fanboi.
*sigh* I guess if your here shooting blanks(as usual) then that twit Jackdog can't be too far behind
" let me make something extremely clear: the name Darkfall is live trademark as reported by the USPTO. That means the name belongs to Adventurine. That means that it is the name that will appear on the box.
This game is vapor supported by morons.
