This game seems to be what pvp oriented people have been asking for in WOW, original UO players, in threads like "devs bend over for carebears" and in a host of other game where pvp is rather "weak".
Its reminding me alot of the next generation of a Shadowbane MMO though. ShadowBane being a game which is in its final stages of death, in my humble opinion with 3 servers left and another going down (from its original 5+) and sometimes around 350 at most during primetime (according to forum sources).
Lets forget for a moment all the things that have plague shadowbane (eg.crappy engine) and focus on playing style...one of the problems in shadowbane was that sometimes a group of players...won. They would wipe out their enemies and being able to to horde resourses and spawning areas torment the losers until they had no choice but to leave, which in turn would make them have no one else to kill then bordom would set in and then they would leave themselves. I wonder what checks and balances will be in this game to keep a clan/guild from making the game unplayable by a losing or weaker group? I mean from what i have read, nothing will keep players from making an evil town, hire evil npc's and then grief anyone they want.
Don't get me wrong i love the concept of shadowbane (it was just implemented so poorly and with such a horrible engine) and darkfalls seems to alot of great concepts (eg.skill based and fully lootable corpses) but assuming darkfall devs don't screw up the code, i wonder if it can survive the game play.
Then again...
I believe a large portion of the gaming comunity is composed of carebears, even i have been known to become one from time to time, however they now have a game all to themselves...WoW. Darkfalls seems on the harsh side and i don't think the majority of gamers can deal with that (again Carebearism is epidemic) so while i don't think it will have huge WoW numbers it might have eve online numbers at the begining (30-40K).
These are just some of my thoughts of the game after i read the interview feel free to comment.

I can tell you, following this game very closly and have been a player of shadowbane. This game will replace it very well indeed. The depth of the guilds and wars that come out of it will match none. From intercepting enemy supply lines, to ship warfare, this is the game of the future.
Thou, that's if it actually comes out. These interviews pop up when the forums of their site go dead. Again we get another one today, because the forums went quite faster this time. Reason.. because this game is considered vaporware by most. It follows so many titles that had the same road. For now, me and many others say Vaporware till we are proven wrong.
But like me, many want this company to make us put our foots in our own mouths and get on our knees praying to the devs for a game of deliverance into a new gener. I hope this happens, I truly do. However it will take the actual release of this game to prove it to me and others. To many issues in the past have made this title un-stable, but maybe, just maybe everything they have been spouting off latly is true.
"The monster created isn't by the company that makes the game, it's by the fans that make it something it never was"
I think you're right, however you have to bear in mind that there are a lot of carebears who like to play in harsh PvP games, especially when the game mechanic fosters a reliance between the two extremes of play styles, where the carebear needs the PvPer for protection and the PvPer needs CB for equipment. EVE is a perfect example of how a game can suit extremes and if Darkfall can tempt in the same number of players as EVE I'm sure it will be seen as nothing less than a success. Personally I seel the problem not with the gameplay, but the technology. Maintaining and growing a one-world server architecture won't be easy.
Sorry to go off-topic a bit. I'm not all that familiar with Shadowbane.
If they do it right there won't be as big of a problem as you see, well maybe for the dominating guild. I personally like fighting against a superior force. It is fun trying to come up with a strategy, or resources to topple a giant. You keep trying, getting better and better at each attempt. SB wasn't so great at this because the price of failure was so high sometimes that it wasn't worth it, or the dominating guild had so much control they could just keep everyone down that they couldn't hope to organize a force to even attempt an attack.
If they keep it fun for both sides, then this won't be a problem. You shouldn't be so bummed out at losing your city that you quit. You should want revenge, and it should motivate your clan to war.
If the dominating guild can keep a server at bay by not letting anyone advance to a point where they can mount any chance of resistance, then the game will become what you just described.
I disagree, DarkFall will not be ShadowBane 2. It will more so be UO3, and I skipped UO2 because we know what it was supposed to be. You need to look past just the fact that DF is a PvP game to figure out what it's really like. The free looting upon death, the actual crafting system, and the ability to have a house is what makes this game complete. The fact that as you play the game you the player will write the lore of the game. The fact that a player who is not someone who will PvP constantly still has a roll in this game, whether it be a crafter or just PvE. The fact that this game is no longer point, click, micromanage, makes this game far different. The fact that the developers of DarkFall care more than anythingabout this game, enough to spend there own money to perfect it. The fact that they were smart enough to not sell out, and use there funding smartly to produce an endgame that is less buggy and more balanced then any game out to date. This is what makes DF nothing like ShadowBane, and I admit it isn't even that close to UO3 but thats as close of a comparisoin as your goign to get with DF.
agree with mag here, but if anything, DFO will replace the same real feeling of fear and the need for politics and logistics as shadowbane..
its a game of clans, a game of conflict and a game where coordination and tactics is vital..
IMO it will be something like shadowbane meets UO meets DAoC meets planetside meets AC:DT meets Mount & Blade.. oh yea
Shelter for all the homeless PKs who havent been able to shoot someone in the face anywhere, anytime for a few years.. It's gonna be the bomb
Took the words right out of my mouth....I too consider it Vapourware....but still have hopes for it.
To me it does sound like a Shadowbane 2 type games. After playing Shadowbane for 2 and a half years, and reading up on this games, it sounds very similar to Shadowbane, with a lot of new content. I hope this won't be disappointing.
I think the more mature player, and those that remember the pre-Trammel days of UO will really love this game.
I personally miss the heart-rate pounding as a RED chased me back into town!
It's what is missing from most modern games - Danger and loss.
Avoidable loss is also missing. :P
What scaredy cats forget is that this won't be like WoW contested areas. If you get jumped by someone, you can fight back and actually have a chance of winning. You won't have to just bend over and get fucked by some guy 10 levels higher than you. Also they won't be able to escape and hide from your guildies in safe zones.
Just because it's full pvp doesn't mean everyone will be attacking each other all the time. Murderers and theives will actually have a harder time than the honest folk because there will still be npcs and a certain amount of law in different areas.
This is the kind of game I have been waiting on for the 8 and a half years I've been playing online games. This is the kind of game I'm in college to become a game developer for. The thought of raiding being completely decimated in this game by crafting (as it should be!) gets me giddy, freedom from the flawed idealogy that is World of Warcraft. The possibilities this game has are incomprehensible, the combat should be amazing, the idea of building your own cities and laws is superb. I await this game with bated breath.
