My First Night in Landmark - some questions.

Hi everyone.
So I was able to get one of the free Beta Keys from here on the site and played Landmark for the first time last night. Admittedly I was quite underwhelmed by it, but I understand it is in Beta and there is a lot more to come. But I have some questions I am hoping more experienced players can shed some light one
First off, the game ran horribly for me. At the start, my settings were defaulted on Ultra. The game ran at 2-3 frames a sec. I managed to change the settings to medium, but the best I was getting was maybe 10 frames a second, but more around 6-7. Is anyone else having this kind of problem? Are they having optimization issues? I ran ESO and Wildstar on pretty high settings, and it seems with a game like this I should be able to do so equally.
Second thing I noticed is that I didnt see anything else anyone built. I checked the map for the red areas which means that land was claimed, but I did not see one single structure built while running through those areas. Did they do a wipe and just started over recently? Did they just add new servers (I am playing on Liberation)? What of the things I was looking forward too most was seeing what other players had built.
Lastly, is there a tutorial online somewhere that helps teach how to build things? The game has a quick tutorial on mining copper and wood to create your flag - but then it says they will have a building tutorial coming soon. So once I planted my flag I felt like, other than collecting resources I didnt really know what else to do.
Oh, and Also - can you create more than one flag and claim multiple lots?

I also was able to get last week one of the MMORPG hosted keys for the Landmark Close Beta, so I'll see what answers I can provide based on one week's worth of exploring/gathering. (Note: It appears the time frame for accessing and exploring is about one week before Landmark mandates a Founder's Pack purchase if you want to continue accessing the game. After about 7 days I now get a "Your account is not authorized to access the game at this time. To get immediate access, purchase a Founder's Pack [here]"
Frame rate
At first I also set my system (running a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti) to Ultra, but the frame rate did considerably drop. I ended up setting most things to High and I was okay with that since I ran around a lot. My take on frame rate is, literally, as I run around the massive game content--considering terrain detail above ground and a good distance underground--is loading to my system. What worked for me was running a bit then pausing. Based on their recommended/minimum specs of 1 GB video RAM for entering the game, my opinion is the game is okay so far.
Anyone Out There?
My home island was Adventure, where I had a claim, a tier 1 island that had builds scattered here and there. A few things might be going on. 1) The island you were on might not be too populated, especially if the tier is 3 or 4. I mainly ran around tier 1 and 2 islands and saw builds here and there. 2) I think Tuesday (8/12) there was a server bump, so that might have affected things. But I cannot verify because I cannot log back on to see. 3) Also there might have been some unplanned server wipe, though I did not see any mention of that on the Landmark forums.
Tutorials
I'd suggest checking Youtube because there are a lot of tutorials there. Pick and choose, and I hope you have fun.
Lastly...
I enjoyed my time in Landmark, crafted some and mined a ton of materials. The scenery is beautiful, all played out with back-ground music (I believe) composed by Jeremy Soule (the composer for the Elder Scrolls I - V soundtracks and Guild Wars 2 soundtrack), so that was a special treat. Will I look at playing the game once it is released? Probably so. The game is relaxing, and I especially enjoyed the cave exploration. Hope this info helps.
Game is not optimized yet, start with everything on low and go up from there. Always have shadows on Low. At the moment it helps if you turn off the 2 cashing options. Your fps may have been so low that the buildings did not show. It is a beast of a gama unoptimized so stop now and then and let the game catch up. Don't run with your tool in hand it lowers framerate too.
Type /join general to join the game wide chat channel.
