[Review] Swordsman: A Competent & Engaging Adventure

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Swordsman Online looks just like a carbon copy of games like Age of Wushu or any old other "generic" Asian adventure, and in many respects, it feels like it too. But that's not a bad thing, as I've come to figure out during my length of time with the game. Being a clone doesn't have to be a death sentence. Perfect World's latest free-to-play foray into the martial arts MMORPG scene boasts colorful garb, plenty of swordplay, and straightforward leveling and PvE as well as PvP instances.

If pay to win was in the dictionary this game would be framed and held as the hall of fame pay to win "free to play" game.

I disagree with some points, the Japanese voices should not negatively affect the score, its got a good story, GREAT combat and is just plain fun! I am competent at PvP and haven't paid a dime so I dunno where this 'Pay to win' guy is coming from.

I think some people just trash every F2P game as pay to win no matter what. They have an agenda and try to bring down F2P games at all costs. They don't even need to play it to say it.

Laughs, it is PW, they don't have a non pay to win game in existence.  Some are worse than others.  I have not played this game, I just avoid anything with the PW moniker on it, but I would be absolutely shocked if it didn't.  In many of their games it usually pops up at end game if not before.

This game is not Pay to Win, I agree PWE isn't the most reputable in that aspect, but play a game or you have no right to judge it.

    6 is a fair score.
  • MysteryBMysteryB Member UncommonPosts: 355
No 6 is not a fair score because points were taken off for the Japanese voices, anime reviewers don't take off score for that do they?

It's Chinese voices and not Japanaese voices by the way...

I think the game really begins at lvl 40 with the mastery system which lets you manually add to stats. The lost art skills which you collect and use, and the projectile system. The game isn't pay to win its pay for convenience.  Everything in the item mall aside from  a few items to improve your pet can be found in game

Like they said this game isn't really introducing anything new but if you like martial art games  and dont want to have to drop a few hundred before you can actually damage the other players then im sure you will like this game

oh but depending on the server you pick their can be a major bot problem!

So there is no pay to win? I'm always hestitant with F2P games, especially with Perfect World and Gpotato. But if its not pay to win i might give it a try, it looks rather interesting.

There is a not problem, but as with any Free game, SWTOR, Never winter, they all have bots haha.

Why is it such a Good thing that you can level 1-25 in a breeze?

Shouldn't developers make it so you really enjoy, take your time, and experience the game and not just the end game?

Hell, why even just have levels 1-25 if they are something you can do in a few hours of gameplay? Let's just get straight to the end game.

This is all today's mmo player care's about. Look at every post here or any other mmo site. 'is there an end game" is always a topic. Player just wamt to rush to end game now.

"Plenty of time to grind" is not exactly a good thing in my opinion. But it is indeed mostly what you do in this game.

I don't really agree with this review. The outfits seemed sparse for example and the environments bland and tiny if you look past all the fluffy bloom.

Auto-pathing is also not a good thing in my book.

Though I would probably still give the game a 5/10 for a F2P as well, it wouldn't be for the same reasons.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

yea, because subgames or b2p games don't have bots ^^

"believe me, mike.. i calculated the odds of this working against the odds that i was doing something incredibly stupid… and i did it anyway!"

Age of Wushu is honestly better. This game is just... Ugh. Disappointing.
