[Column] EverQuest Next: Wishing on an SOE Live Star

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

What I’m hoping will come out in SOE Live is partly a rehash of my earlier E3 wishlist. That said, with slightly more information available now, this SOE LIve wishlist is going to get some validation very shortly after publication. Will I get anything right this time?

With an entire hour-long keynote at their disposal, SOE has the ability to choose how they want to ramp up Everquest Next. While combat is one thing, I’m still hoping we get more details on how Storybricks is being implemented for Everquest Next.

looking at the other panels for EQN - i doubt storybricks will get much emphasis

Ratonga was one of the dumbest races in EQ2, basically on par with Panda's in WoW. In fact, the less they copy from EQ2 the better, that game was a joke for MMO gaming and partly responsible for WoW's success.

The Content of EverQuest Next is all about how Storybricks will work. It was also posted in big bold letters in the welcome show last night: Storybricks demos.

This is the official schedule description for that panel: Learn more about how the team is working with Storybricks to create content in ways that will make the world of Norrath come alive in EverQuest Next.

I have already seen enough of the entire design that i don't think it is going to be any good for me at all.

They are just not creative enough and tend to stick to their same ideals over and over.We are probably going to see more Heritage quests and rehashed ideas like that.More guild grinding most likely done exactly the same.

Their combat will make a slight change but imo will end up feeling ho hum after the initial intrigue of abilities.I see the system exactly like FFXIV to which i was not impressed because every class always felt boring to me.Having some r/l clicks to play combat like NWN is NOT the answer.Darting in as some lightning backstab mage is not cool or fun,it will become redundant after a few hours, already done that in NWN and long before in some other f2p Asian game as well.

I guess the positive is their cost cutting lack of per each class will keep the hotbar and 75 icons down but they will need to make the FEW we get to sue VERY exciting and i mean exciting for months not the first day.

I still expect mobs to be the same,in groups of 3 or 6 or a total zerg. They will make CC cheap with ability to stun the entire crowd and still use the exact same approach "if takes any damage is no longer stunned" and only works on level so and so,i expect an exact repeat of all the same ideas.

If SOE can surprise me and prove they can be creative and think outside their little box,i would be more than over joyed and even impressed.IM Othey ONLY have ONE team that is an y good and that is Naughty Dog team, too bad they don't get them to make their MMORPG.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

i really hope to gahd SOE does not try to entice these people who are complaining about EQ2, especially since it seems they don't even play that game.

"There are at least two kinds of games.
One could be called finite, the other infinite.
A finite game is played for the purpose of winning,
an infinite game for the purpose of continuing play."

I have to ask, have you read anything about the game, watched any presentations or listened to any discussions about the game here or elsewhere?

The reason I ask is because you seem to have no clue about what EQN is aiming for, the design they have already released or the design they are aiming for.

As for thinking outside the box...I don't even have the words to express how EQN will change things for future MMO's but it will certainly change the 10 year rut the genre has been in.
