So Far Loving This Game

Spankster77Spankster77 Member UncommonPosts: 487

Ok so started closed beta last night and my character is around level 7 and so far I am really enjoying this game.  Here is my assessment so far.

Things I really like:

1.  Storyline - The storyline is actually very engaging and deep.

2.  Combat - While I am not a huge fan of tab target combat, I still find the combat in this game fast paced and fun.  I also really like the ability to have a ranged and melee weapon active at one time.

3.  Questing - For starters questing is optional so if you don't like questing, don't!  I don't mind questing especially since quests in AA are not your typical "Collect 20 x", they are more like "Collect 5 x".

4.  Open skill system.  While I am sure that I am doing it wrong there are plenty of skills to choose from and a plethora of ways to mix and match.

5.  Scenery - The landscape of this game is beautiful and detailed.  I just built a new gaming PC and I am running everything on Very High and it is beautiful.

6.  The LP System - I know this is a fairly controversial feature but it works and makes sense.  You want max LP, fork over the trivial $15 a month so you can craft and farm your heart out.  You don't want to pay anything then you are limited, but you can still do everything the game has to offer.  This is definitely not a "pay to win" game.

Areas I feel need improvement:

1.  Character Creation - While there are plenty of options and customizations during character creation I didn't see any that allow you to change height and stature (i.e. fat, skinny, muscular, etc).  I think this should be a staple in any modern MMO.

2. The Music - The music isn't terrible but it's also not nearly as good as the music in games like FFXIV or ESO.

3.  Character Movement - I feel that the character movement feels slightly ridged.  They need to loosen the movement up a bit so that the characters feel more fluid when in combat.

4.  Voice Overs - Call me spoiled but reading walls of texts just seems outdated in 2014.  They have some cool cut scenes but I just am not a fan of reading quests anymore.  This would be a nice to have but definitely not a deal breaker.

Overall I think this is a really solid game and I am having a blast.  It seems to be the first real open world MMO that has a nice mix of some "old school" feel with some nice modern features.  I plan on purchasing the $99 founders pack for no other reason other than I feel that the game is worth it.

I got to level 8, the game is tons of fun. The multiclass system going on is very fun to fiddle with, the Mount and the boats are amazing to use, they feel very realistic. I too was thinking about buying the 99$ pack.

I actually like tab target. I didn't like Wildstar at all because of  too action'ish combat.

This is the worst part of AA. I'm on lvl 10 or so and have done nothing else but followed arrows and killed mobs, which have a drop rate of 100%. The rest of the time i have been traveling from quest hub to quest hub (they even have 'check points' where you can buff yourself for faster movement O.o). Why, oh why, can't this game begin on level 1? For how long this forced tutorial has to last? I can skip 'em, i know, but why would i want to do that when quests give me more exp..?

    4.  Open skill system.  While I am sure that I am doing it wrong there are plenty of skills to choose from and a plethora of ways to mix and match.

I like this a lot. Wouldn't mind at all if there was even more skills to choose from.

Same here. I love it. :)

I kind of disagree. The LP system is ok, but not everything in the game should be dependant of LP's. Loot should be released from the LP system; save LP's for crafting only.

    Areas I feel need improvement:

    1.  Character Creation - While there are plenty of options and customizations during character creation I didn't see any that allow you to change height and stature (i.e. fat, skinny, muscular, etc).  I think this should be a staple in any modern MMO.

I think the customization is already better than in many other MMOs. I think it's fine in AA.

    2. The Music - The music isn't terrible but it's also not nearly as good as the music in games like FFXIV or ESO.

Matter of taste, i guess. I found it a bit annoying, so i turned it off.

    3.  Character Movement - I feel that the character movement feels slightly ridged.  They need to loosen the movement up a bit so that the characters feel more fluid when in combat.

Comparing to WoW, movement in almost every game feels rigid. Still, i find it pretty good in AA.

    4.  Voice Overs - Call me spoiled but reading walls of texts just seems outdated in 2014.  They have some cool cut scenes but I just am not a fan of reading quests anymore.  This would be a nice to have but definitely not a deal breaker.

Cut scenes and voice overs don't belong to MMOs. All those players with a movie camera above their heads... (shakes head).

Gotta agree. I'm not gonna purchase the $99 pack, but definitely the cheaper one, and cancel the sub for Wildstar (the game is too arcade for me).

If loot doesn't cost LP then the non-crafting population has no reason to buy LP pots! Of course they want to try getting everyone to the cash shop for those pots ;)*

*I only got up to level 12 or something so maybe later on PVE non-crafting crowd will have stuff to spend LP on

I  hated this game the first two days I played it. I went into it attempting to play it like all the MMO's I have played for thye last ten years. I clicked on every NPC that had a ! over their head and tried to do them all. Big mistake on my part. I then rerolled a new character and did only the quests that I needed for gear, Gilda's, or equipment. Then I discovered hang gliders, got myself a clipper, put down a couple of farms in a PvP area so was drawn into the PvP aspect of it and fell  in love with the game.

I predict anyone who approaches the game as a standard follow the quest breadcrumbs game will not last long. To fully appreciate it you have to sample all aspects of it. Not just treat it as the quest train to raidville

    I miss DAoC
