Can you use a game controller

I have a USB game controller for my PC. I have heard that this game was ported over to PC but designed for PS2. Has anyone who plays this on their PC used a game controller to play?

I havent played it with a gamepad yet but Im planning to get one.
FF is designed for the ps2 and thereby uses a controller-friendly UI. No spellbars etc, most stuff is accessed through menues. The only downside I see is typing. But if youre just grinding away in a xp pt a controller would prob be the better choice.
