A Tad Confused

Spankster77Spankster77 Member UncommonPosts: 487

So I am really excited about this game but the current model confuses me a bit.  They are selling alpha access for $150 but your alpha characters will be wiped when the game goes live?  Next, you can get a 4 day head start and some other perks if you chose to pay, yet the game is F2P?  They are having their 3rd closed beta event, with an open alpha, and they still haven't released a go live date?

Since alpha is a wipe at release wouldn't it make more sense to give anyone that "pre-orders" both alpha a beta access as opposed to just the people that pay $150, since that plan no longer makes sense with release expected to drop in the near future?  In addition what is the point of open alpha is everything is wiped on release anyway, seems like a way to burn people out on the game before it even drops.

There is no need to buy a pack to play the game.

Wait for release and P2P for almost full features or play for free with some limitations.

    Its simple.

Alpha allows you to play the game now unlike beta testers who can only play when there is a test going on.  It would have made more sense to have bought into alpha when it first was offered than to do it now because you can get into the betas rather easily.  AFAIK there is no beta payment model, just watered down versions of alpha packs.

Honestly, I wouldn't spend any money on the game until after it goes live.  Unless having some sort of in-game advantage is what you are after.

I would place my bet that AA goes live in September at the earliest and October at the latest.  Right in the mix for WoD.  Should be interesting a F2P going head to head with a P2P.

No point paying for alpha right now. Just play beta with one of the other two packs; it will go OBT after CBT4. Tomorrow will start CBT3 so other 2 weeks, more or less, for the last event.

Or you can get a key for closed beta, but you will play as f2p with no patron benefits.

If you look around with a little effort you can get 50% discount from all Archeage founders packs, i see people selling it for those prices as a >>"gift"<< trough steam.

Second point is Alpha and Omega are NOT going to be wiped, they remain instact after launch the servers go down and are used for future testing of new patches and expansions.

Only Beta servers are wiped as those are going to be used for launch and will even hold their current names.

Only the Archeum founders pack give acces to Alpha.

Gold and Silver pack only give Beta acces.

    Hope it helped :P

First, the Founders pack were never about progressing your characters, they were an opportunity to learn how to play the game, how to best take advantage of the game world, believe me, the folks who have been playing the past few months (along with those who played the Korean and Russian versions) have a huge knowledge advantage over those who join at launch.

Next, you can get a 4 day head start and some other perks if you chose to pay, yet the game is F2P?  They are having their 3rd closed beta event, with an open alpha, and they still haven't released a go live date?

Again, that 4 day head start is huge. Those players with experience will use it to capture and dominate large swatches of the best real estate, and by time the rest of the playerbase joins they'll be sailing galleons on the high seas to wreck anyone who tried to do a trade run to the other continent.

Tis true, I burned out a bit on the alpha and stopped playing for now, and while my play times won't ever let me dominate, it will give those members of my large guild a chance to, and I'll ride with them to victory as their efforts will strongly benefit our entire organization.  Like I said, the wipe is irrelevant, think of it more as we've had  chance to train for several months so we can be in top form when the game goes live.

While I've heard there's no wipe planned for Alpha and Omega, do you have a link from Trion that absolutely confirms that?

What I'm wondering is, if they don't wipe those two servers, why should I or the other founders not continue to play on them, what would be the disadvantage?  A chance to only play against fellow founders actually sounds like a positive and we'd get all the new patches first.  Even if they let other players try to join, we'd already own everything of value so still worth sticking to those servers.

I've forgotten what game it was, maybe DAOC, but I remember they never wiped the test server, just updated it with latest new code, and some players never left, spent their entire gaming careers on it.  Perhaps a bit less stable, but still, it was their permanent home.
