mate everyone wants every feature possible, you ask anyone they will want something and everything. It is all nice and fancy sounding on paper. You cant just say ok guys we are going to give you everything you want. Game design dosnt work like that nor does real life.
Im preety sure if every big gaming company said we are going to give a list to make ur pants wet, everyould say yes. Its not about the big boys not giving it, its about designers, and game companies understanding what works well in the systems and for the overall gameplay. You cant just tell someone we are going to give you everything you ever wanted if it turns into shit design.
I would disagree. AAA companies don't make games of this scope because they're a crap shoot. Damn, they don't even make space flight sims anymore, period! With SC, you're basically talking about 3 or 4 different genres being mashed into a single game. You're talking about a magnitude of game that is just massive. You're talking about a massive universe. If you knew about Chris Roberts' background, you'd know that's always been his vision. If you've ever played a Chris Roberts game, you'd realize that the scope of some of his work was simply massive for the time. All that was done under much smaller budgets than $50 million.
Personally, I think that he may end up having to charge a sub or implement a hybrid system that offers both F2P and Sub (with benefits) in order to be able to maintain the project. My biggest concern at this point is that the scope of the project isn't under control. I mean is it a space flight sim, is it an FPS, is it an MMO? They seem to be relatively transparent, they have something out there (Arena Commander), but I'm just not sure what the actual progress is on everything else, what has priority, or if he's simply going to go all-or-nothing like with Freelancer and let the scope simply get out of hand. In all honesty, though, I think he does think he'll be able to deliver everything.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
You can play the game right now, but its going to cost you. I just bought the Saitek X52 for this game. I am still debating which pack to buy atm. It is a toss up between a few.

I think people also are just really interested in having a good space sim after more than a decade of drought. And Chris Roberts has historically delivered that. Even Freelancer was quite good in spite of it not selling that well.
Originally posted by Zezda Yeah, let's just ignore the fact that they have 230+ people working on the game and that these ships need to be put into the game anyway.
That's even worse. You'd think 230 people could have turned out something better than what amounts to a brief interactive tech demo by now. Guess they're all too busy designing ships to sell for exorbitant prices.
Of course, after some sites dared to question the quality of the dogfight module which was for all intents and purposes rather lackluster despite being delayed, Roberts throws a hissy fit and slams the gaming press.
Doesn't really inspire confidence, you know? Hope it works out though.
Could you post the link to where CR throws a "hissy" fit and slams the press? Also, which sites question the quality of the work done?
I'd like to add you've obviously never played the AC or you'd know it's no where near "lackluster" and is in fact beautifully crafted and fun as well...
"beautifully crafted and fun" Is nothing more than your opinion. I think it looks meh, and the gameplay is crap. Boring simple point and shoot gameplay. With chase the mouse controls.
Over 500,000 backers would disagree with you...I'm glad we won't be seeing your uninformed ass in the verse..:)
LOL I have been a backer for a long time. So i post more information and you are calling me uninformed? hahahahaha
So how exactly am I uninformed? You do know that the Start Citizen Number is not the backer number right? Those are just people that have registered on the site, the backer number is unknown. Something an informed person would know.

Perhaps that is the wrong term..maybe you are hardware challenged? Anyone with a good, up to date system can see that even in alpha state, the AC looks awesome, gameplay has been upgraded to another level and the ship settings allow you more freedom than just "chase the mouse controls".

All you need to do is just turret in space and kill stuff... it's one of if not the most effective way of killing people.
This whole thing is going to end very badly. I see "star citizen" joining the lexicon of MMO terminology in a not so favorable way before we see 2016. Something just doesn't smell right.
When people started looking at Chris Roberts like a god just because he made Wing Commander he knew he could rip people off with Star Citizen and get away with it. I can only imagine what will happen if this Titanic Sinks...

Freelancer was a "hugely ambitious game", as admitted by Chris Roberts, for a company to develop without the necessary capital and resources.

http://elitedangerous.com is similar to Star Citizen with some EVE thrown in from what I've heard. The guy on the BBC podcast really seamed to like it.

and what? Freelancer was an awesome game, but it could have been even bigger and better without the publisher wrecking the scope of the game and CR leaving Digital Anvil
this is why CR is now doing it without a publisher

LOL no, if Microsoft had not given Digital Anvil bail out money there would not have been a Freelancer. CR ran his company into the ground and had to have Microsoft save it.

Are you saying that the flight model in the PU will be different than the one in AC? No. They'll be the same.
Are you saying that we didn't need to throw up dozens of posts complaining about the flight model before CIG decided to add 6DOF? Are you saying that playing m&k isn't the most efficient way of playing this "space sim" ?
Space races and leadeboards... the game is already a space arcade and it would a hell of a lot more if people who want it to succeed didn't criticize it.
The fanboys are the ones who will ruin the gameplay.

First of all I never said freelancer was a bad game, I said it wasn't what CR promised. Secondly, you have quite a bout of revisionist history going on there...if Microsoft had not bailed out Digital Anvil, the game would not have seen the light of day. The only reason the game even exists in any form was because Microsoft dumped tons of money into it to get it out the door after it had been in stalled development for years....
My point is, although I am sure the game will be great, it will not be CR's initial vision.

If so I don't see the game lasting very long. The hard core supporters who are promised you will be the only ones with access to these ships will be very angry if they just change a paint scheme or remove one hardpoint and release it from free to the public. Hard core fans and backers can destroy a game after launch, Ask Hellgate London.
Just to a a quote from theWikipedia page on the Freelancer game you are talking about.
Freelancer was a "hugely ambitious game", as admitted by Chris Roberts, for a company to develop without the necessary capital and resources.

Nope, I just don't care for the graphics or the artistic style. And yes the chase the mouse controls are as casual as you can get.
http://elitedangerous.com is similar to Star Citizen with some EVE thrown in from what I've heard. The guy on the BBC podcast really seamed to like it.
It's an MMO, but it also has a standalone game.

His actual quote was "I wanted to develop not only hugely ambitious games, but too many hugely ambitious games". In any event, that's his MO.....he shoots for (and promises) the moon, but instead delivers cases of moon rocks he brought back from his trip. Though those moon rocks are very interesting and facinating, its not what you thought you were going to get.
The fanboys are the ones who will ruin the gameplay.
..Cake..
