I have got 150 dollars worth of entertainment already and I still get more for my money.
Trion got MONEY which is good for them.
People who do not want to pay a dime got a good deal too, people like me are paying for a game for them.
Why would this make anyone mad I have no clue unless you are jealous and want to play but can't afford the 150.
If you are mad for another reason think about it a second or two, you still get your free game and suckers like me are paying for it, how could this not be a good deal for you too?
My own personal argument:
I'd rather have you spend your money on the good stuff, rather than fund crap games (and therefor make developers half-assed about said games, since people are gonna buy them anyway).
That said, what both you and I find good games and bad games probably differs vastly, so the argument is also pointless at the same time .

I will agree with you on this point, I will tell you why I spent the money but remember the next game you want someone like me might help it come true.
I played this game free in Russia liked it enough to buy patron there, then when it went to alpha here I bought in. I joined a guild on the Russian server I was on that had over 500 English players in it, the majority bought patron there. Being one faction of 2 while they had 20 servers you can get the idea there were lots of NA players there.
So I bought into Alpha day one here. I get patron all through alpha until release, which none of us know for how long but could be for several more months. Then when it releases I get three months of patron plus some other goodies. All the in game currency I spend I get it reset when the game releases, you can actually buy the in game currency now spend it and that too will get refunded at release.
Trion said there would only have one Alpha server here, while they changed there mind on that they now have 2 pretty full alpha servers and people are still buying alpha packages. This is why Trion has shifted more reasources to Archeage, this is why XLGames will spend more time fixing/changing the game for the NA market.
While I do understand this might not be your type of game, this game is some people's type of game. People like me help get more games out the door and to the public, so the next game you really want to come out hope that people jump on the hype wagon and help make the company some money where they will spend more on it.
While I know everyone likes to get to test for free, the people who paid in Archeage from NA has helped get this game here, so even the F2P should be thanking them.
you dont buy a pair of shoes half way in its manufacture, or a pair of jeans that are still half way done. Do you pay to beta test a car? nope, you test drive it before you pay for it.
I wouldnt call them stupid, but i would call them gullible and maybe dumb. Supporting those practices only hurt the consumers as a whole. Nobody cares that they have money and want to spend it on that, but the fact that they are supporting this is why we keep getting more and more and more of this nonsense.
To the question: Yes, I do buy things that are part-way through their manufacture. When I buy a suit, it is either unmade when I pay for part of it, or it is part way completed and requires measurement and adjustment by the tailor. This concept of "buying unfinished goods" is not new or special in many crowds.
To me, this post is suggesting that you do not buy tailored suits, make investments into emerging companies, believe that prototypes are useful, commission works of art, or other things similar to the above in nature.

I have gotten more than my $50 worth from this game so far.

Your analogy is a little facetious. With a suit that is tailored - you can see a model of the suit you are paying for and you know exactly what you are getting. With this game, you still don't. Too mush is up in the air, like the LP system, balance (which is atrocious BTW), etc.
When I gamble on investments, I talk to my investment broker, who helps me make decisions as to what is good or bad. They have the experience. This is different than paying for a beta of a game that may or may not be the same at launch as it is in beta.

Next to nothing is up in the air for Patrons, like he will obviously be. Archeum drop rate I suppose? Who really cares, that percentage certainly isn't going to determine how much I personally play, or 99% of others either.

The investment broker in this case is called "Twitch".
If you bought it for $150 you can already bank $120 worth of Patron status, leaving $30 for the 5 months of early play time, head start, and swag.
Seriously, people need to find something else to complain about. The Alpha server is absolutely packed to the brim with players still active and using all the land. You would think if they were being "ripped off" they would have "figured it all out" by now 4 months later.

"Atrocious balance" in a game where you can change classes and skills with a click and for small ingame money. Yeah right.
