just to recap some of the differences between patron and free to play.
"Before we discuss how to get it, let’s detail what Patron status means in ArcheAge. Patrons will enjoy the following benefits:
• Bonus online Labor Point regeneration (10 per 5 minutes) • Offline Labor Point regeneration (5 per 5 minutes) • Increased maximum Labor Points cap (5000 maximum) • 10% bonus to all Experience gained through combat or labor usage • 10% discount on Marketplace purchases (available after launch) • 5 Loyalty Tokens per day for use in the Loyalty Store (awarded on first login of the day) • Ability to claim land by placing farms and houses • Ability to pay in-game taxes on owned property • Ability to post auctions on the Auction House by default"
"Free accounts will be able to make purchases from the Auction House but will not be able to post their own listings by default, nor do they regenerate Labor Points while offline. Free accounts will be able to unlock full Auction House access as a low-cost Marketplace purchase, a measure in place to protect the in-game economy from mass-created accounts. Players whose Patron status lapses will retain full Auction House access. We are currently exploring options for allowing free accounts to also have the ability to build housing and pay taxes after ArcheAge launches while preventing abuse of this permission."
"To ensure that all players have the option to potentially become a Patron, there are two ways to obtain this status. Players can purchase Patron Status as a subscription via real money on the Trion Worlds web store; expect pricing in line with RIFT’s current Patron Program. Alternately, players can use credits to purchase a Patron Pass through the ArcheAge Marketplace – these credits can be acquired by web store purchase, Founder’s Packs, or by obtaining an in-game item called APEX.
APEX, short for ArcheAge Patron Exchange, is an in-game item that can be sold on ArcheAge’s Auction House or traded between players; it grants Credits when consumed by a character. The Credits granted by an APEX can then be spent on any Marketplace purchase, including the 30-day Patron Pass mentioned above. This allows industrious players in ArcheAge to let their gameplay pay for their Patron status without spending real money."
So to all you twatwaffles: STOP COMPLAINING AND LET US SEE HOW IT GOES!
Don't get me wrong I would love to sink a metric shittonne of money into this game because it is awesome, but alas I am a poor person with no job and no other cash income. I intend to play as a free to play unless my situation changes. It will take time and hard work to make the gold to afford the APEX but i know it can be done. Last year I started Playing EVE Online, got a 21 day trial pass from a friend and a PLEX on loan. That gave me 51 days to earn enough money to afford a PLEX for the next month. Not only did I do that I paid my friend off before the end of the 51 days. Two months later I started a second account and successfully maintained both as a high-sec miner/security mission runner for more than 9 months and still had enough time to have fun doing other stuff. In the end I let both accounts lapse after consolidating everything to my friend's account and I went to play ESO with some friends. #regrets If it wasn't for that I would still be maintaining both accounts to this day even while playing other games. At very least with AA if your account does lapse you can still play and farm back up so you can afford another APEX. I know it is not fair to really compare different games' business model but those two games seem the closest to me and EVE has been going strong for more than 10 years so let us just see what Trion/XL can do with this.
People don't want to hear it so they say things like oh its a MOBA. That don't count man. Oh LoL is so much bigger! That don't count man.
Well guess what, LoL started somewhere too man. Deal with it. HoN failed also and had to switch it's business model.
ArcheAge is currently milking people with founder's packs. $150 just to play Alpha. They claim F2P just to let people play a dumbed down trial and show them what they could be doing if they paid. F2P will entice more people to try it out and some people give in and pay. It's a pretty dirty way to go about it. A P2P game advertised as a F2P. Many people have mentioned they should just switch it to P2P so people will stop complaining but everyone knows Trion just wants to keep milking.
And to the derps saying oh you can buy patron status ingame! Guess what? They will cost a ton of gold and be overpriced as hell. How is a F2P supposed to make that much gold when everything requires LP to make gold? WP.
Non "patrons" (subscription) get screwed hard. Labor point system is crap. In order to do most things, you will need "Labor Points" which you get for being online. Only subscribers get "LP" while offline. AFK kick timer being implemented also. And they are talking about whether to make an afk ban system. Only way for free2play to make even a small fraction of the amount paying makes is to afk with their PC on all day long. Wont be possible anymore.
Cash grabs everywhere. As long as delusional people try to justify their nonsensical decisions, the guys milking will continue to buy new houses and cars. "Support the developers! I swear they need more money still!" Derp. Trion isn't even the developer. Derp.

You sir are a frellin moron. It is entirely possible for free to play accounts to get Patron. it may take a few months till they figure out the best ways to make money but the great thing about free to plays is they have more time to play than pay to plays because they got no life. FFS use your GD brain!
I paid through the nose for ESO. Cancelled after one month. Have been playing Rift, GW2 and Veteran of 7 yrs WOW. Rift is my favorite, UI was subbed for yrs and now pay for sub with in-game currency called REX. It is a great system and the only reason I tried AA on Beta.
I have bought founders pack because I look at the cost of entertainment as a senior. A sub is the best return for the money. Really? Can't pay less than .50 cents a day for a game with endless play. I have started with real money but fully expect to earn enough in game currency to pay for continued patron.
I still play Rift every day and enjoy it. The point is I love Rift, so far love AA and was bored to tears in ESO. I would have paid to sub if the game had been any good, but it was dull. At 64, I know for a fact you what you pay for and I'm willing to pay.
P.S. I have become addicted to farming, as a 10 year pvper it is the first time I am farming barley instead of people.
Not only that but as a free player you can't make your own house and can't even use the AH.
I'd say labor isn't even the reason with their free-to-play model being terrible.
Unless there is a way to make in-game money and trade it for sub or access to AH like Rift has, but I wouldn't know about that with just a few days of closed beta.
I really cannot get people who do not support the games they like. I sub every game even if it's f2p if I like it. I do it because I believe in paying for the things that bring pleasure into my life.

What I find weird is why you would compare a very successful game and another who is not yet proven to be a success or not. The reason Riot is doing well is because of its huge player base. If they did not have that base they would not be able to not charge. It's the chicken and egg thing. Lot of games charge a subscription and fail but WoW charges and is a success. Lot of games are f2p but it does not mean they are all doing well.
The game matters more than anything else not the payment model. Riot is successful because people want to play their game. The most important part of this equation is creating a game that many people want to play without that no sub or sub will give a result that indicates success. The bottom line is that it is not the payment model that made League of Legends a success but that League of Legends would have been a success irregardless of its payment model.
You have full access to the entire game from the start. There are lots of ways to spend money for fancy stuff. But nothing that you can buy has any actual impact on the gameplay.

I like Marvel Heroes 2015's Model.
A Freemium.

The best model is that of DOTA2.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
By what i've seen, ArcheAge doesn't even remotely look that good.
