Should Have Released on Console First

Spankster77Spankster77 Member UncommonPosts: 487

I re-subbed to this game about a week and a half ago and while I am playing I keep feeling like this would be a really good console game but it feels kind of awkward on the PC.

I am not saying the game is bad, it just something about the play style feels off when using a keyboard and mouse.  I have played tons of other MMOs (WoW, WS, LOTRO, GW1&2, TERA, etc) and I felt totally comfortable with them, this game I just don't.  I actually went out and purchased a xbox 360 controller to use with this game but which helped a bit but it's still kind of a pain because you can only do so much on it.

Don't know I think the game would have been much better received if they released on console first then maybe PC.  I bet if they did so many more people would have stuck around.

Comments

  • Doubt it. There would probably be more people who were expecting a skyrim co-op with the consoles. When they find out its not they would probably hate the game just as much as some people hate it on the PC.

OP, using Xpadder let you bind absolutely every single key you use on keyboard and mouse for ESO. Ive been using it since beta and i only had to add 3 button modifiers to Xpadder and i only touch the keyboard to chat and i rarely do that because it is a way too solo friendly game (unfortunately)

Pretty much.  They even went as far as giving players xp for just tagging the mob really.  That killed it for me.

I did not expect much from the game.  I had a good 2 months or so.  Leveled one of all 4 classes to max.. first 1 took a little time.

After that I realized solo grind to VR1 followed by tower grind doing it bridge, tower, portal, tower repeat =about 12-15 hours for vr12.

Gets boring when you can max out a character in about 24-30 hours played.  Another 5-10 hours and you can purchase a full suit of player crafter armor and boost it to gold.

Then it is just a matter of continuously "raiding" (I wouldn't call 12 people a raid) to hope you get a PvE dropped set... that is not much better than the player crafted set.

There is also the alternative, PvP... which was quite lame imo.

Not to mention, leveling a character to vr12 got you to 35+ crafting in most skills- a little more effort to be 40+ in all.. making crafting just as easy as the game was all around.

I guess to each their own.  It feels completely fluid to me and I play with keyboard and mouse.  So I'm not sure what parts don't feel fluid to you?

Just cancelled my sub... I just can't do it.  I have 19 days left on my sub so I may try again but meh, just think the game is extremely sub par!

It didn't feel fluid to me at first either but then I went back and played Skyrim and Oblivion on the PC and realized, "Eh, it's just Elder Scrolls in general."

I use "Keysticks" with an xbox 360 controller. 17.00 for lifetime license.....worth every cent. Yes this game is fantastic on a controller.

It's better to lurk in forums and be thought a fool...than to endlessly "Quote" and remove all doubts.

These posts are the absolute best kind.  If you expect anyone to believe that you leveled all four classes to VR12 and each of them took you less than 200 hours (30?  Kiss my ass, that's hyperbole at it's finest), then you're simply insane.  And the fact that you basically spent all of your free time playing the game, only to turn around and say you didn't enjoy it, is like saying that you bought an encyclopedia and then read through all 20,000 pages over the course of two months but felt like it wasn't very informative.  Humans don't continue to do anything they don't want to do, regardless of how dedicated they are.  Most people who bought the game and launch and play regularly are just now getting to VR12 on their mains, so you're just exaggerating about some things and straight up lying about others.  That's not really contributing to the conversation.

Well honostly I would become bored aswell if I played and look at MMORPG the way explained above. Glad I play and look different towards games in this genre.

While I havn't really played the last few weeks because we're into a complete overhaul/renewing the house and I have to have a clear mind when playing RPG or MMORPG games. And will be happy to return playing once everything is finished at our house.

On topic: I am glad it wasn't released on console first. I am a pure pc gamer, have nothing against console's. Would have been different with a all platform release then I wouldn't really care.

A game that releases later releases better, so somebody is always going to get the better version. This time its the console guys.

1 I clearly stated I had a a good 2 months or so on the game.. did not say I didn't enjoy it.

    2. I clearly stated my first character took much longer, then I stated I grinded the other 3.

    3. Only a moron would take 200+ hours to get to VR12.

    4. All my characters have some variation of Phantom Ghost (some have a - some have a the first part as Lord or The) in their name.  All 4 are Vr12... it takes about a week real life time to get to vr12.  Go to craglorn.. very fast,

    5.  Quest/grind through glenumbra.  Go to stormhaven, grab the quest that gives you an imp, grind to about 29, do the main quest line, move to rivenspine do the main quest, the quest where you go to the overun city, kill the zombies with the quest helper... if you accidentally run in the inn, you will get a different npc to help you... grind to 33-34, finish story.  Go to alik'r desert do the zombie docks to 38 start main quest, towards end of main quest kill the zombies by the boats to 41.    Go to bangkorai just do the main story.  Go to coldharbour do main story then grind pretty much any undead in the northern middle half of map on the way to molag bal... finish molag bal if you feel like it.  Vr1 go directly to craglorn.  Take any group but aim for tower group as it is by far superior.  Vr1-3 will seem slow but its not really that bad 3-4 hours for the whole process.  Vr4-11 (picking up at vr7)  will take 6-8 hours.  vr11 to 12 takes 3-4 hours.

Most levels grinding from 20-vr1 take 30-45 mins max (possibly faster if you have AE.. always aim to kill undead- zombies are the best)

So any body who bought the game when it came out and is just hitting vr12 absolutely sucks.  You can read my previous posts over the years... you will tell I enjoy grinding...  hence why I said I had a good 2 months or so on the game.  Grind is done.. its no longer fun.

I never said I did not play, when I made a character I planned it to be lvl 1 to vr12 in 6 or 7 days real time.  The longest grind session would be vr3-12 as I would typically knock this out in one day... (exception would be my nightblade I did vr3-7 then 8-12 the next day)

"Only a moron would take 200+ hours to get to VR12"

I started at launch and still have not reached V12, so I must be a moron. Alternatively I had no intention of racing to top level and just enjoyed the game at a strolling pace.

Once you hit top level, sooner or later you leave, so if you enjoy the game why would you want to race to top level? If you are not enjoying the game, why were you playing it?

Thank you for proving my point.  I do not know how much more I can spell it out, this is now the third time.  Not sure maybe I need to make a youtube video quoting it for this to finally sink in.

Ever think maybe I enjoy going through the levels quickly.  Maybe its the reason I prefer games that most people would consider work.  (Since 95% of my playtime is while I am "working" since I need to be accessible on  my work laptop and phone during my shift.. not much else to make the time go by)  And to answer the question, I was enjoying it while I had character to level up.  When I got them all maxed out I stopped enjoying, hence why I stopped playing.

I wonder if it did release on console first if the game would have been a port and crippled in some way for the pc.

Dude.. you are just ridiculous.  Why do you even bother wasting everyone's time by posting your nonsense on this board?  These games are not designed to be played the way you play them.  Of course, you are entitled to do so.  Your choice.  But you are a content locust.  You blow through everything as fast as you can, for some reason.. idk why.. but that's what you do and say people who can't keep up with your pace suck??  Really?  I can probably guarantee that you in fact suck at this game.  I would love to take on your V12 with my V6 in Cyrodiil.  I feel pretty confident that I would roll you because you likely don't know how to play your class very well... both in PvP and/or group play.  This is simply a sad and pathetic approach to mmo gaming IMO.

Because it is the OPs universe.  They just allow us to live in it.
  • fivorothfivoroth Member UncommonPosts: 3,916

I thought there would be a valid reason for this but of course the OP doesn't give one. I am shocked. Ooh wait, I am not!

By the way the combat is very good. It feels like a TES game. The combat is actually better than a tradtional TES game especially if you are melee as in other TES games melees only have block, light attack, power attack. No special fancy skills.

Anyway as a huge Elder Scrolls fans I can't see how any TES fan would not love this game. Sure it's not as open ended but AMAGAD the lore! We haven't had a TES game to cover all provinces since the very first TES game - Arena. How could a TES fan turn all this TES lore down?

I think the people who got disappointed a lot are not necessarily crazy TES fans but more Skyrim fans. By reading different forums you would think that most people have only played Skyrim. And Skyrim is not even the most epic TES game.

So yeah, Skyrim fans will probably not like it! As a fan of every TES game released, I love ESO :)

Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.

I can't disagree more. It's no worse than Morrowind, Oblivion, or Skyrim on PC. This franchise started on PC so you're not going to convince me it suddenly plays like a console game.

  • Loke666Loke666 Member EpicPosts: 21,441

Hardly, PC players are way more easy with bugs than console players so waiting with the console release until the game is fixed up is the best thing to do.

It might however be that they should have put more work into making the different versions controls more specific for the platform. Controls for PC games and console games should be very different to specific fit the platform, making a compromise is a mistake.

  • Spankster77Spankster77 Member UncommonPosts: 487

You guys can have this game...

I played for about two weeks and then realized that the game just isn't fun to me.  It looks pretty and the story is good but the combat feels clunky and off to me, the open class system is too loosely defined (I entered dungeons with cloth wearing tanks not using any threat gen abilities), and unless you do all the side quests the main quest line will quickly out level you forcing you to go back and do the "side" quests anyway.

Those of you that like this game, that's great.  I reloaded GW2 on my machine and I'm having a blast.  Different strokes, as they say.
