Archeage is terrible!

Tried the beta last night and man, it's almost exactly like every other Asian MMO, which means, total mindless, unimaginative crap.  Is it really THAT hard to have some new ideas?  Especially for Asian MMOs.. they are carbon copies of each other in play style and design.

You start in the same mindless 1-2 quest area, with 2 kinds of mobs always endlessly spawning, do 1-2 kill x of y, talk to this guy, get x of y items, then move onto the next area which you do EXACLTY the same thing, which looks exactly the same.  That really all you do for many levels.  You hit level 5 in about 15 mins, which to me, is completely challenge-less.  You hit level 10 in 40-50 mins.  Lame.

I bounced to 5 of these areas, each with only 2 mobs, which have pretty much zero AI, then I gave up.

This game only has 4 races, and as usual, they don't stray from the mage/fighter/thief/archer classes, plus another dot mage type.  Wow, how imaginative.

The character design is the same anime type stuff which one race has those retarded dopey enormous eyes that simply MUST exist in every Asian made game, for some reason.  All the default females look like they are 15 years old, but you can give them an older face by tweaking it.  I couldn't find any options to change height and body type at all, just the face/hair.

The quests are completely mindless.  You have zero interest to even read the dialogs, or care about the story.  The first cut-scene in the game makes absolutely no sense.  You have no idea what you are watching.  I skipped the rest of the cut-scenes since they added nothing to the game.

The graphics are beautiful as are some of the creature types, but that's just eye candy, and doesn't help the actual game much.

In the chat, there were people saying ESO is shit, and "I love this game" and I was besides myself wondering what they actually loved about it?  ESO is 100 times better than this garbage.

They add a ton of crafting, housing, and the pvp, but I couldn't stay interested long enough to bother.

The base game formula is simply too mindless for me.  I could write a script to play 1/2 of the game for me.

Leveling, like so many games now, is tedious and boring, and just a means to an end, as people run to end game, pvp, etc.  You don't enjoy the ride at all, which means, there's only 1/2 a game there.

There wasn't even a character doll where you equip items!  You just double click them and they go into a standard inventory window.

I'm glad I don't follow hype, because then I don't get let down too much.  That being said, I STILL thought this game would offer more than all the other Asian MMO clones.  It doesn't.  Just more of the same with only a couple expanded features.

Sadly I can't disagree with you. Although I would express my opinion a little bit more conservative.

Yeah, another one fails the test, not surprising considering the write-up.

    Hope you enjoy ESO.

You need two whole threads to say the same thing?  I think you are breaking the TOS here.

I'm curious. Why do people always use ESO as a diss...usually implying their taste in games is bad?

  • deniterdeniter Member RarePosts: 1,438

Should they have focused on crafting and farming and toss the quests altogether, this game would had been amazing.

Shame really, all those amazing features.. for what? End game?

Arche age is the best game ever!!!

Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

Played yesterday for the first time. I cant tell if game is good or not. I just could not accept combat and graphics. Both were terrible for my tastes.

Anyway i hope the best for it.

I'm surprised - the defenders of ESO are now trashing AA - what gives?

I can say - I'm enjoying my AA beta experience.

After carrying 'bitter vet' title proudly for many years thanks to generic themepark MMOS over so many years i am actually quite shocked that you settle on AA.

I never thought that you will be fanboying a themepark MMO someday.. never!!

I think time to let go 'bitter vet' tag now. image

ESO is a lame themepark where you don't have anything to do but fed ex questing. I have no idea how people still enjoy games like that. ArcheAge is a game where you have options and choices to play the way you want to play. ArcheAge is better then ESO in ever way.

I disagree with him too.  Sadly the conservative approach to disliking a game is non-existent on this site.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

You know what's wrong with this? You're so well versed in Asian mmo's yet this is the first time you tried AA.

    GG - troll post though

Its strange how these thrads are always the same. Saying the quests are horrible and it is like any other asian game. Well it is true, those quests are pretty generic (except the green story ones).

Shocking news, this game offers freedom and you can level up by crafting only or do trade runs, PK people for trade packs and cash them in....so many possibilities.

It is amazing how all those guys can reach level 15 or 20 without even noticing this stuff. i stopped doing quests at level 9-10 and just leveld from exploring, harvesting and building my house alone to level 30+

  • evilizedevilized Member UncommonPosts: 576

Seems ok to me. Leveling pace seems dead on for the first 10 levels, hopefully it stays pretty quick up to cap. I see a good bit of potential in this game, moreso than with wildstar or ESO at least.

I'm starting to wonder if people that lash out at games like OP have completely unreasonable expectations. It has been known that AA is a themepark+sandbox hybrid for a long, long time. It starts off as a themepark to help ease noobs into the game then opens up in the later levels.

Well, whatever. No point in arguing with people on these forums because everyone just has their head buried in the sand. Not sure why I even bother reading the forums on this site anymore, honestly.

I agree that the game is not that well put together to say the least. This was a bad investment on Trion's part. Probably why they are trying to push it as fast as they can to salvage some of the loss. It does have potential so hopefully XLgames will take it back to the drawing board for a few then try again but it might be too late. Skyforge beta this year and B&S NA/EU next year first quarter....could be too late Archeage.

    Well done!!! nice !!!!

I only cant understand where have you find "dot type mage"  Are you sure you being playing AA?

Both AA and ESO are dull and empty. AA is simply more asian.

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

This logic does not work either in a f2p environment. That's the one good thing about f2p.

It's not just that the initial player experience in the game is themepark, but how strongly themepark it is, as well as how lackluster. Perhaps alot of people went into the beta expecting the initial questing to be a bit less bland (the most kind term I can think of for it). Additionally, does the game really require a 20 - 30 lvl questing tutorial to convey a few extremely basic concepts and introduce a couple unique elements like farming and trade runs?

I reached lvl 32 in game during the last beta. I was really looking forward to the crafting in game, but upon actually getting to play the game find that, oops, XLGames and Trion messed up and made the archeum dust used for basic crafting a huge pita to acquire, especially as a F2P player (many threads about this on the official forums). So yea, the experience ended up being a real let down over all.

This is a useful post, I have not made it that far to see this, but I have seen much about it, good argument for why it ultimately will be considered terrible in my eyes as well, even though for now I am having fun.

Don't we all just love to over complicate things? I certainly don't. Today my only gripe is the cash shop is not straightforward and requires way to much studying for me to consider taking AA seriously.
  • Mandalorian2KMandalorian2K Member UncommonPosts: 6

I didn't find the game nearly as bad as the OP stated, but it definitely has it's flaws. The quests are all pretty bland and the cut scenes I didn't really follow as well. What I was looking forward to was the farming, tradeskilling and housing aspects of the game and that's wherein my biggest disappointment lies. I got to level 10 and did the quest to get my scarecrow farm and was pretty excited to get going. Only to my dismay, I was unable to place it because I was a free account.

Now I can completely understand wanting to limit land plots and the like on f2p accounts once the game goes live because they don't want tons of free accounts made and taking up all the land, but doing so during a BETA which has a limited number of participants is alienating a huge possible playerbase that might have paid to become patrons had they gotten a chance to get the full experience in the BETA. I also know that you can still farm and the like out in the wild or in public farming areas, but having your crops ganked or very minimal space to farm in public areas because you were restricted on farm access in a BETA test is a bitter pill to swallow.

I was debating becoming a patron myself at launch because I liked some of the ideas behind the game, but without getting to experience them during a BETA test, I'm pretty turned off by that fact and don't really feel any urge to play past level 10 because of it. I think limiting access during the BETA is a big mistake on Trion's part and will cost them money/customer in the long run.
