With a good community mmo, I can over look most all other problems

I'm sitting here thinking of all the mmos that failed me.

All the bad only have only one thing in common. Community, a living breathing world of friends, ones I play with, and the ones I see around. A feeling of community.  I go to work and see people I don't even know but I see them daily. I always have the potential to talk or inter act. It's my option, and that's a good feeling.

Ever since Warhammer. I think that's where it all started to go down hill. With its small zones.

- Rift small zones.

- FF14 very small zones, even split cities. and 250 part solo quest line.

- ESO mega servers

- GW2 with dynamic everything ( auto group )

- Neverwinter small zones

-WoW dungeon finder lobby game

- The list is long.

I think to myself, how much bad ideas would I put up with. For me at least, I don't like 5 abilities on my action bar, I don't like bugs, and in complete games, I don't like Obnoxious games like Wildstar with its shine your abilities on the ground style. BUT I could put up with all of it with a living breathing, full of players, non instanced mmo.

The only way I could play a game for months on end is with a good community driven mmo.

This is why Archeage is so controversial right now.....It's build for community. PEOPLE LOVE THIS, yet it has an extremely large design flaws. People would like to see this game but with a Western design......It's almost to the point of "its all we have".

I could put up with a lot, but I need a community mmo, and only developers can achieve this. IT'S NOT UP TO THE PLAYERS !

The fun part is, I will probably play the game up to level 30 because I enjoy the story.

    And then... I will quit.

I've seen the posts of the people that you call "your community" and I do not want to be part of that.

Archage has me in a tail spin. It's the reason for this post.

I hate the cash shop, I'm pissed about $200 founders pack, I'm not big on total PvP and crafting. I'm not crazy about  the Asaion Theme ( not my preference )

YET,  I'M STILL INTREGUED !!!!!!!!!..........Why ?  The seamless world ( for the most part ) and community.

Actually community is one of the weak points of AA I tried all beta servers and all have awful chat and worst seen in any mmo at release will be even worst as it has f2p option.

Community WAS one of the things that made an MMO great, unfortunately these days community is basically a Guild/Clan/Org and 'hopefully' members on when you are and chatty lol.

It used to be that Community was server wide, it was one of the ways to keep griefing down as players gained a bad rep which followed them and made life harder. Though some liked the infamy it changed when players were able to change their name, all the previous actions where then wiped away.

People no longer look out for others like we used to, it can mean they lose out on a certain kill or might miss some good loot so easier just to avoid helping. Griefers flourished and through PB moaned about how they were constantly killed .. Devs balanced around whoever moans the loudest and there is no real solution as the PB is just as flawed, don't help, ignore, bury head and moan the balance isn't fair I regatta x players wanted.

If the community had stayed as it used to be, then we might have more sandbox with pvp and a community which looked out for each other. Instead we start to get online single players with built in chat.

The community in SWG ( on my home server Chimaera ) was very good. It was filled witheverything from genuine nice people to prize idiots. There were egos and teamplayers. Talkers and doers. Because the game relied heavily on interdendency, we all had no choice than to relate to each other on some level. It was great. Sure we had "fights" amongst us but we all stood together when representing our server. SWG had many different servers. Chimaera was our home. I'm sure players on other servers felt the same way as we did. I miss the game but what I've realized is that it's the community - the players, that I've missed the most. No other game has come close.

The best communities I experienced in an MMO were Daoc RP servers and UO Catskills where we had awesome RP guilds like DoJ, Crimson (something???) and Shadowclan (i think lol, long time ago) who wore nothing but the same armor orcs in the game used (even though inferior) and had orc masks. They stay in character at all times, it was so fun.

MMO's these days are filled to the rim with the typical internet thug intent on ruining everyone else's experience to get a good laugh. LOTR is the last great community out there.

I also don't stick around in MMOs that don't have engaging communities. Part of the reason I've played Achaea for something like 14 years is because of the community.

CoH had a good community, was usually easy to find someone to group with. Shame they took it down.

The last good community I can remember was AOC before it went F2P.

People are too anonymous and less invested in the game community these days due to; F2P, name changes, mega-servers, server changes, cross-server dungeons/ pvp etc etc; and it allows them to behave like an arsehat with no repercussions.

I don't know about LOTRO.  Whenever I log on, in the lower levels, I hardly see a soul.

I think Viper ment the quality and not the numbers. And I agree, LotRO has maybe the best community out there. (numbers are decent too, just not on every server, and timezone matters too.)

I'd rather say before the merges. I'm on Crom since the beginning, neither the unlimited trial, nor later the f2p switch altered the community much. Of course I can't say anything on other servers, especially the pvp ones.

When FC started to merge the other servers into Crom, and also loosening-up the f2p model, that helped the numbers (on some occasions it even felt cramped and overcrowded), but also dealt some punches into the community, quality-wise. Still, it's "just" average presently, and not bad. There are much worse communities on the market :)

    Yes,

Developers set the foundation for community.  The best players could do is some work arounds.

That saying " Find your self a good Guild " is still not good enough when your constantly zoning from one area to another.  Or when 3 of you are jumping into a mass 25 player dynamic event.  No one in your group is watching your back or no strategy of working together. The most you can hope for is that you stay grouped when the smoke clears.

Have you ever made a good friend only to find that he is paying zero in the cash shop and is severally gimped because of it ?

I care about people, I really do !......But on a no name mega server I don't give a rats butt about that guy over their. And as much as I really care about others, when I play with strangers using a cross server dungeon finder, the most I could hope for is a good group for my own benefit.  This is my mindset, and it's EVERYONES MINDSET !

    So what happens :

30 days in, I say " this is just another average video game ". The intriguing abilities are not that big of a deal anymore. I've seen enough of the world to know what's next and I stop playing.......That Great guild I joined ?....Well half of them left, and the rest only talk about farming materials, trying to get a that-a-boy for some exotic weed they plucked out of the ground.
