Not all PvPers want a gankfest or like griefing...

I love the lord of the rings, ive read the books, and before the movies came out i even bought expensive CD sets of reinactments, one which even has ian holm as frodo's voice =) anyways, i care about the lore, the settings, the virtual world... everything in tolkiens writings BUT i goto say i am a huge team pvp fan, i played dark age of camelot, and currently World of warcraft, i enjoy the roleplaying aspect of the good side vs the evil side and nothing is more exciting to me then fightning in small group vs group pvp in the actual world.

the way i think of it is, in the 2 towers... the riders of rohan roam around hunting orc, and protecting the small towns, now how fun and amazing would it be to actually have a set up like that but all real players....all friends or guildies... picture this your guild is roaming around and you come across orc raid squads controlled by another guild... theyre on the move you clash into each other, whats so bad about that kind of pvp? team vs team, nice competiveness. NOBODY wants a hobbit shire gankfest, not all of us PvP fans are griefers or whatever you call us, most of us dont even like flat out PvP .... we want factionized PvP... teams.... realm vs realm ....... good vs evil. and what better place to have it then in MIDDLE EARTH :D!

it would have made me so happy if you could choose good or evil in this game, but its not like that ......we will be restricted to PvE purely... im sorry but its just not as exciting. i dont see why they cant bend the rules a little bit and just make an evilside playable.... it would add alot more content too i hope they do it down the road for an expansion someday. you know for a fact they are going to get around certain things, or bend certain PvE elements of middle earth so players can raid ect ect, then they should let players roleplay like theyre under the control of sauron. or a orukai under the control of saruman... man it would be so fun =( last but not least mordor and isenguard are way south east of the map, while the good elves, hobbits and men, are middle of the map or to the N,W corner.... would creat so much space to level freely intil higher level zones. The strategy game Battle For Middle-Earth had a "what if" situation to the storyline where players could uses Sauron's forces and win at the end of the conflict. But LOTR Online is linear, and will follow the storyline of the books right down to the final confrontation where the Ring is thrown into the fire of Mordor - resulting in the defeat of Sauron and his armies.

What some players don't understand is that there is going to be a progressive storyline through both instancing and live events. So throughout the lifespan of this game we will slowly see Sauron's forces diminish. The game world which you experienced from launch will be completely different visually several months later because of the storyline.

I know in Star Wars Galaxies the storyline does not change, and the game will always take place during the climatic events of the Galactic Civil War - which both the Rebel Alliance and the Empire win their share of battles. But if Sony Online Entertainment was to do the samething that Turbine Studios plans to accomplish things would be much different. The Rebel Alliance would defeat the Empire and reduce them into Imperial Renmants. The old Rebels would become the New Republic, and even though they still fight Imperial forces, what remains of the Empire is eventually left in defeat.

In fact during the conflict with Yuuzhan Vong the Imperial Renmants join the Galactic Alliance - the good guys. Not to mention the New Jedi Order is more opened mined about the Force(since the Yuuzhan Vong's link to the Force brought up many questions). In recent novel Luke Skywalker uses Force Lightning and still manages to keep a good heart. So if this were all to happen in SWG(which it won't) would you believe that playing apart of the Empire is useless?

Because the storyline is pre-determined and will evolve Sauron's forces WILL loose.

Now i read a lot of these threads here, both on on mmorpg.com and on lotro.turbine.com

And it seems like most of you havent read the FAQ on lotro.turbine.com.

Anyway, then first of all you should try and go to this link http://lotro.turbine.com/?page_id=56#gameplayquestions27 and read the FAQ there.

Next i can tell you before you are going there that they will properly (not certain) put in evil races to be playble since they say they will not do so AT LUANCH <--- And when that is said it allmost reveals that they properly will put in an option to be able to play the evil side. And another reason why you can't play the evil races from start is that they havent created such a huge world of the evil side, like Mordor (not sure if there are any of mordor really when the game launches), so in that manner where would you then start out if you chose the evil side ? But the will ofcourse be added with the expansions following up after the luanch. But do remember that the LOTR world is HUUUUGE so if they were to create all of middle-earth they would frst be done in year 2012 or so i belive, and at that time both the graphics and so many thing else would be way to old to look at.

Of what i read they are more thinkiong of creating a really great PvE system which for me seems like to be really nice, since not many MMO's has a good PvE system really. For example take Guild Wars, they have a really great PvP system but a really sucky PvE system though. So if they are to make the story really good i believe the game would last longer where the PvP properly will get in game later on. And speaking of PvP, there should be a little PvP ingame, not much though. But when (and if) you get to able to play the Evil races later on there will properly also be more PvP, since would't it be odd if you ran into an Orc or Uruk'hai and you would't be able to attack the guy but only wave and say hello to him ?

So the fact about Pvp not becoming a part of the game seems like to be little, will first be added later on. I remember reading about this game about a year ago  or so, and there they said that there would't really be any PvP at luanch since they were more focosing on the story part and PvE part, but properly would get it in an expansion later on. And now it looks even more promising to get PvP into the game.

Neogen -> how come you say that about the story line ? 'cause if the story will end some day ingame, the game will end to. There would't be any mordor to travel to and find Sauron's minion's to kill or preventing for travelling to any of the Free people's lands right? So in that way i do not believe that they are going to make it a linear story like that so i cant see wh ythey should't be able to add the evil side to the players. And though i would also find it odd that it they say that they will start out with Frodo just left Rivendell, with the fellowship - so in some manner they will let it continue, but i doubt they will let it end. But maybe that has something to do with the areas that you are restricted to. So that the story will continue when the expansions gets out !? - Anyway, now.. i havent really read the books but certainly are going to, BUT, The two towers, and Minas Tirith wasnt really the only places that saurons forces tried to overtake and failed, nay they did prevail (or am i wrong ?:S) in some areas, so that thing about loosing isnt really quite right. they lost in the end yes, but then again, i doubt they will let the sotry of the game end like that - yes you are crafting your charecters story not the rings story, but then again its called Lord of the Rings right ? so if the ring gets destroyed ingame, it would't be The lord of the Rings anymore, more like: The lord of Middle-earth ?

Well.. check the link out, read the FAQ and reply, you will properly get most of your questions about PvP and become one of the minion's of Sauron awnsered there

saying "at launch" does not mean they will do it sometime in the future. They merely state "at launch" for a bunch of things because down the road a year or 2 down, they may toss over the idea of doing it, and then decide NOT TO. They are merely keeping all their options open. They don't want to word themselves into a corner going we WILL NOT do this, we WILL NOT, do that, and we WILL NEVER add that. They just don't want to make any promises, at the moment im 90% sure they have no plans to add evil races, but in a year or 2, who knows, they may be lacking for players and need to bring in a huge draw, what would do that more then evil vs good with pvp, wouldn't they look fooloish and make it seem like they are adding it just to get people back if before release they told everyone they would never do it?

Also honestly i know your idea of pvp sounds fun, and great. But that will never actually occur, your entire sense of it is wrong. Its not a bunch of people following a story to hunt groups of enemies to help protect your areas, its a bunch of teenagers who have a lust to kill people. They will run around and kill anybody that they can, anywhere at any time, no rp, no novelity, no actual story relevence. It will turn into wow where you get people ganking people, and doing the mini games over and over again to earn their honor.

First of all, a while back I  saw a dev conversation saying they are working on a pvp system. That doen't mean evil races because you know that the dwarves didn't like the elves much. And I am pretty sure that there wont be any OPEN pvp. By open I mean that a high level orc cant go into a lvl 15 place owned by the free people. So in other words bladir, I disagree with you

I diddent say they have promised it, i said at launch, that means that it will occur to be in discussing some time. Not having PvP in this game doesnt really bother me if the PvE part is good. And next, i diddent say they would put PvP in just before release just because some people dont agree with it. I said they will properly put PvP in later on in some expansions. Atleast i do believe that the evil races will be playeble when we get to the 2'nd or 3'rd expansion, or maybe even when the Rohan expansion get's out. But thats just my belifs.

I would never be glad to see anything like WoW PvP in LOTRO it would just be completely wrong, but such things are possible to do different also. but again, it will properly first be added later. Anyway in their FAQ ssection (i think it was there not quite sure and im to tired right now to look it up) that there would pvp, but it would be minimal. Not much. Mayeb a little aren or something for the people who likes to do pvp... But im not sure on how thats going to work.

The problem is, is that there will always be ganking and griefing.  You will never be able to stop it.  They, the Gankers/Griefers, will always find a way to gank/grief.
