This wont help you a whole lot right now but possibly in the near future.

Im currently testing Tribal Wars 2, Tom Clancy EndWar and Rising Generals and all are currently great browser based games.

My suggestion would be try and land a key through various means such as Facebook, their website and giveaways.

If you looking for a right now. Could i guess try Tribal Wars original what is good and enjoyable. Theres a few others i will get for you too.

Im in the same boat as you. With work over laptop and family commitments. Time is limited so browser games have been great to get my kick.

I also would like to find a decent browser strategy game; but have the following issues with them

    i) all the ones I have tried are heavily time-locked, usually requiring a payment to progress before said time-lock expires.

ii) they all require (or heavily lean towards) constant micro-transactions.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying for the games I play, I just do not like being nickel and dimed.

Great game, coming from someone who usually despises these sorts of games. Really shockingly deep research, trading and combat. It even boasts an arguably more interesting world than most actual MMOs.  Only problem is it's a *bit* P2W but not nearly as bad or as blatant as some games like this I've seen. I haven't paid anything and still enjoy it a lot you can just buy some fairly minor boosts for your armies and production and things in the shop so if your heavy into the PVP that may be a bit of a problem but like I said I think it's something that all these sort of games have.

i second the therian saga, even tho it is more of a sandbox mmorpg than a strategie (but maybe thats even advantage)
