I am not fond of cell shaded games either. Fortunately there is a graphics option to turn off the outlines and I find that to be a big improvement for my tatses.
I normally don't play F2P games, and usually hate them. This game however doesn't spam you with "buy this" or "buy that" messages. It's there if you want it, and that's what I like about it. You are never forced to spend money in order to be good at this game. Some of the advanced battleframes are cool, but you can also buy them with credits ingame
came back to the game after a long hiatus, and man its just so solid now for drop in and just have some fun type of game. Such a good distraction from what is out right now yeah its got problems but its just fun. Go try it and enjoy the pew pew.
I started way back. I enjoyed it then and would jump in and blast away for a while. Was a good casual game for me. I have hard time wanting to log in. I don't know why I would want to when I see it on my list. I feel that unless I am thumping then spending more time running around than killing things. Just how I feel and glad that others see it differently as hopefully it will keep the game alive and I will see changes that bring me back.
I feel this review is skewed, and scored too high. Yes, the game is better now that it's launched, but it still has a long way to go. I feel like the reviewer is playing a different game. Lots of content? What? The main complaint among most players is that there is not enough content. In fact, there are noticeably less ARES missions spawning than was in game just a few months go. The level gating has also introduced some limitations to gameplay as well.
Innovation? What innovation? Besides jumpjets, what's really unique about it? If this was said last year, I would sort of agree. But with 1.0 just reverting to cliche MMO mechanics, there is nothing at all innovative about the game. And the writer is confusing "grind" with "deep" when talking about crafting. Many in game now won't even bother with crafting until they're at least level 40 since it takes so much and so long to craft items now its just not worth it when you're only going to out level it soon any way.
And value a 10? Lol. Yeah, the game is free, but with a cash shop that frequently sells one small desirable item wrapped in $100 useless packs or purposely only puts new items in slot/vending machines to get customers to gamble money away, and the tendency to attach real word time frames on crafting as if it was some Facebook app game,"value" is the last word I would use. (Never mind the fact it's been a year and they still haven't fixed the issue of purchased hats making your character bald.)
Is the game fun? Yes, it is, and I do like it, but we really need to be realistic here.
I've been enjoying the game a lot so far, but they really need to add more pvp maps and better battleframe customization.
so basically, you hope the game gets worse, so bad in fact that it dies a horrible death.
thats what your simple request brings.
too much customization means, someone is always screwed in pvp, so then comes the cycle of patch nerf, buff, complain, new patch, new buff, new nerf, rinse, wash, repeat.
this late in the game, they never, ever, should have put pvp back in. it was a woeful, massive mistake in my opinion and i hope im wrong, but i predict, that will be its downfall in the end.
Games i'm playing right now...
"In short, I thought NGE was a very bad idea" - Raph Koster talking about NGE on his blog at raphkoster.com
One notable aspect of what made me solid about this game is the campaign - there's a lot of things that are bound to happen when doing your missions and you can always just sidetrack. Anyway, also, there is mention of "how hard the development team has worked" on this and that - yeah, many people may diss on this or ignore the meaning behind this, but this just proves that even with the bugs and issues encountered since Beta testing, at least you see Red5 are at it, patching things and improving how they all should work. If you've ever played MMO's in Southeast Asia, a LOT of them just simply get dumped by their developers - no new content, no fixes to game-breaking bugs, no new items, no customer support. Red5 standing beside their game is a "+", which may seem meh to some people, but for some of us who have encountered very bad MMO's, that's very noticeable and appreciated.

Uh, you do realize that there are a ton of bugs in game that have been around since start of beta, but have been basically ignored by the devs? And that they reused a lot of old assets to make up some of this "new" content?
What amazes me is these new games (either coming out or still in development), have absolutely no direction or clear path they are following. Its like they need to work on each aspect of the game and submit it to social media for instant approval or disapproval. I mean I have yet to see a recent game come out and say....this is our dream, our work and our vision in this game...enjoy it! No one or NO COMPANY has the vision or balls to do this...Iam looking at you SOE. If gorgeson was such a genius he wouldn't need imput from children on how to make a game. Will SOMEONE step up and make an MMO that a MAJORITY of people will like, and not one that tries to be PC and cater to everyone?? DEVS....GROW A PAIR!!!!
Lets not forget, one of the devs is a member of MMORPG.com. Which is the ONLY reason it got above a 7 here.
Every other site reviews FireFall for what it REALLY IS. And I say this as a person who paid the 100 dollar founders package. And spent A TON of time giving feedback and watching its progression. As an international businessman, I was astonished at what this company was getting away with. Its embarassing.
They had done almost nothing. They had removed PVP at one point and left the game as a husk with almost no NPC's for FAAAAR to long, the quests never changed. The same 5 quests over and over. There was only a couple boss fights, and the world was smaller every time I logged in.
The game has become a joke. A perfect example of what happens when a developer tries to attain perfection from an idea that is funded by minimal venture capitalists, and money from potential players that have been told they were going to get something they never did. A polished game. And whats worse, now its not even a current graphics engine and has no place in the next gen world.
Mark and his team failed the players, the project, and their investors, and now at the end of their flagships nonexistent life cycle, its all about to fall apart and they are using this site to try and breath fake breath into their company's life. These guys are done as a company if they don't find new leadership soon. And their game is already in the graveyard with shovel loads of dirt being thrown on top.
They would have the whole world believe that the game is fun and intriguing.... Sorry, dont drink the coolaid. This group has NO idea what it takes to develop something from the ground up properly. They pretty much have a 2/3 done project that they are trying miserably to push as a finished product. The company itself is full of mismanaged funds, misinformed players, and lies and retracted statements. Thats the only thing these developers did. consistently.
I posted on every posting about FF here on this site about this game starting 2 years ago, and they still rate it over 7. No other site would dare put it higher than a 6. IGN threw it a 5.4
MMORPG needs to rethink things like this. Give this game an honest review. The reviewer says he stands by his original statements, but then states all the disappointments, and then continues to defend those problems. EVERY SINGLE article about FIreFall on this site is over the top bull.
If Mark wasnt a part of their team it would be thrashed for the trash it is. Don't play this game. Do NOT support Red 5 or Mark and his friends.
And if MMORPG wants to keep legitimacy, they should stop reviewing with favoritism.
I enjoyed it - bleak background on development and the team and all. I think people have the right to express their opinion about it, but to each his own and just dole out respect. If I enjoy any aspect in this game, then I do so and express it willingly. Whether it's a bad review or not, I'd still say the same thing - it's a good MMO. It's free. If you paid for a founders package and felt robbed, well that is a risk you took in the beginning, and the only one to blame is yourself. Hate is baggage, you can rage against anything, even about this game, but you can't convince people if they say they had a good experience.
They really need to improve the stability of their servers, frequently market and crafting do not work or lag too much (you need to exit game and enter again to show in your inventory a purchase or sell you have done). Beyond that, it lacks of enough end-game content in both terms of PvE or PvP. It also needs better tools for finding groups and manage guilds. No housing. There is a supposed to be trinity set of classes. Nevertheless, in real, you only need dps'ers (and maybe a healer because it is always nice to have one) to beat dungeons. Although is a shooter, you use 3rd person view (unless you are playing a sniper in an sniper way) because it is totally necessary to be aware of what surrounds you and you are constantly jumping/moving. It is more a shoot&slash game than a FPS.
Good part is that the owner seems to be very receptive to fix bugs and committed to improve the game. In fact, the "live quests" pop more frequently now so you do see them. My main concern at the beginning was that I did not notice those because there were few and there is not an alert system for them when they pop. These quests make the long walks between "job quests" more bearable.
It leaves me the impression of a good game for idle time periods to spend on some money for in game easy-living commodities, but not worth a monthly subscription. Also, a not polished release.
- Fun to play as dps: 8.5/10 (when the the servers do not lag).
- Content: 6/10
- f2p model: 10/10. No pay to win. Although you have to invest lots of time as a f2p player if you are interested in crafting end-game gear.
works for me, I'd call my recent playing habits a bit "casual", only getting in 2-3 hours a day of gameplay but its definitely enough for me with this game, fulfillment is easy for me in this game even with the limited amount of time I play. I guess it also helps that I've accepted that this is very much a work in progress.
They have been improving the game since launch. It is much better than Defiance now. Lots of Dynamic events. And last night I ran into...AN EXECUTIONER...can you say Death Squad?
Fire fall is an outstanding game, I don't get all the Hype for Destiny, why would you consider that when it Falls down on so many comparisons when compared to Firefall.
Yeah, I do agree that the devs are at least receptive and this shows with the latest patch. Tho there's still work to be done, I find the game has improved a lot.
I do play it because I think it's not one of the MMO's out there that stinks of the P2W abusive business model. Firefall is a game on its own right, and I do enjoy it.

This game is complete crap and so is RED 5.

11 out of 16 classes are locked on the shop which is sad, as they are not cheap to get.
still you can get one of them at least in the game if you hit 40 with a class.

See, this is REAL innovation, FF should get an Innovation 10/10
I´ll never get over the 10/10 innovation rating for GW2. Never. Ever.
