Remember MUDs?

So one of the greatest past times of all time for me was mud. Open telnet on your computer and type:

o exile.lurker.net 4000

Or if you have a mud client and already play just use that adress and port.

It's very fun to play at work or at school or when you got some time. The game is very detailed but not hard to grasp. It's very fun with several perks. One round to round based combat so it actually takes skill to play. Two it's developed so that you kind of have to make alliances and friends to move through the game. Three in certain areas you can kill people and loot their gear. It's it has a map as opposed to most muds where you have to read the room description. There is a relic/depic systems that allows you to find hidden items in corpses and turn them in for tokens or varies stats. All around the game is extremely fun and extremely addictive. Don't knock it til you try it.

If it asks who referred you put saske. I'll see you soon.

Yes, I remember muds, and good MMOs, back when most people were friendly/grouped a lot/roleplayed. Then WoW happened...

I'll attempt to try it out though I never was good at MUDs heh.

I haven't played a MUD in YEARS.  MMMM reminds me when I was fresh to the concept of PKs.

I'm not here to complete my forum PVP dailies.

I still log into Avalon every once in a while just to look around. At times there's a fairly healthy amount of people on. If anyone is interested can check it out ;http://www.avalon-rpg.com/ or http://www.firstage.net.

Man, I still play the hell out of MUDs, especially Achaea. I remember playing on Telnet back in the day like OP said. Manually typing all your PvP and curing.

Luckily today we have some pretty advanced browser clients running HTML5, or downloadable clients like Mudlet, with really advanced scripting support.

Achaea's browser client is beautiful IMO, lets new players jump right into the game with a map, tab-targeting, quest menu, trigger / macro support, all sorts of stuff.

I also think MUDs are gonna make a swing back into popularity, as they serve a pretty niche audience that isn't satisfied with the current big-budget MMO industry titles. Lots of stuff to do in MUDs that big budget MMOs don't have, like player-driven factions and politics and real roleplaying communities.

Still waiting for the staff to get the server up and running again for wotmud.

Wotmud pk is still the best PvP there's for me.

I used to make some elaborate maps for the MUDs I played when I was younger. I was the quintessential guide if you were looking for the shortest (or safest) route from point A to point B--for a fee, of course. Man, I miss dungeon cartography. Good times.

Yeah I started with MUDs back in 1992 with dial-up. :)

And also it was good fun in Uni and later at work.

You know when you play too much MMO's when your partners pants have become a rare drop.

Brand new mmorpg.com account bumps this 5 year old thread and another 6 year old thread, both about Avalon. I think I smell a shill.
