This game looks like it has potential....whens it gonna be released. I was a long time SWG player, also from eclipse . WOW lost its appeal to me, and ive been looking around for something new. Fallout was a fav of mine, so i might have found that game.
I only tried SWG for a bit on a friends account, and for the short amount of time that i played, I enjoyed it, however, reading about all these problems with the game I'm glad you guys turned to this game rather than giving up on the whole genre.
As for the post by FEDev, I'm envious of your aunt
I can't wait to take the character creation for a spin myself!
First of all, while I realize this is my first post on this forum, I have been lurking for a long long time. I am very excited about FE because it sounds like it encompasses most of the things I liked about SWG pre-cu without the one major thing wrong with SWG -- SOE. SWG is the only MMO I have played for any length of time, so maybe my opinions are biased, but I think early on SWG had most of what it took to make a good MMO... Then SOE ruined it. I have tried a couple other MMOs, but couldnt stand them (Guiild Wars, AnarchyOnline).
I was never much of a crafter, though I did dabble a few times. However, with that being said, I think crafting is an important part of an MMO and would hate to see it become too dumbed down. I loved getting hired by crafters to go get that Uber spawn of meat or hide or what-have-you. This made the whole experience much more realistic.
I also reallly liked the old profession system in SWG where, as some of you have mentioned, you could always change your toon. You were not locked into some cookie-cutter skin. How many of you remember the secondary stats and when they meant something and when you could modify them? Your toon was customizable based on almost anything you could think of. Then came the CU. Followed (way too quickly) by the "Next Great Experiment" which has been the death of the game.
With each successive sweeping change (none of which were recieved well during development or testing) SOE has managed to whittle a redwood into a toothpick. The final straw was to make my jedi (which I developed slowly over the course of a year -- I was in no rush) common. Not to mention the millions and milllions of credits I lost because my meds/weapons/armor/vet rewards/etc got nerfed into the dark ages with every publish.
I am still hanging on simply because I have several friends that still play. But my heart is no longer in the game and I refuse to ever play a game that Sony has had anything to do with ever again.
On the other hand, I have been following FE development for over a year and I see many many encouraging things about the game. This looks like just the cure for the SOE/SWG blues. I cannot wait for beta I am not into the whole elves/orcs/magic genre and a post-apocolyptic universe is more appealing to me than even the SWG universe is (was).
Anyway, my apologies for rambling, I really look forward to the release of FE so I can bring myself and my crew with me. Not to mention I really look forward to starting out in this world from the very beginning -- having to help find the resources/tools/knowledge to make things that will later become common-place in the game. To be one of the ones that helps figure out strategies and to carve my own little corner in the FE world
As soon as this game is released (maybe beforehand), SOE loses 2 more accounts
SWG refugee here also. I played on Chimaera and quit about 4 months ago. I am realy looking forward to this game and have been since the day I heard it. Cant wait to get my grubby little mitts on it.
One thing I hope that this game has that SWG had was the community. In galaxies (at least pre-NGE, pre-CU) the community was awesome. When someone asked about you're game, you proudly stated what server you were on (as most do here) and defended how great yours was compaired to others. You really belonged and got along and made friends with many different people. It was a truely amaizing expiriance. I hope to see that again.
Oh, and my stuff is at the bottom of my sig. Played on Valcyn, the forgotten server with the pizza boxes piled on it :P
Waiting For: something good Games Tried: SWTOR, Star Trek Online, EQ, EQ2, Earth and Beyond, Planetside, Lineage 2, Eve Online, WoW, City of Heroes, City of Villians, Auto Assault, Fallen Earth Star Wars: Galaxies - Ibra Olasi (Valcyn Server) [Dead, screw you SOE]
Flurry was one of the major GCW servers until the base patch where you have to stand in front of the terminal for 60seconds to reset it. It all went to hell at that point and went futher into the depts of hell after........
Valcyn always had an active GCW, even though it was a small server. From the begining with raids going from Bestine to Anchorhead and back all the way through all the changes made in the game. Even after the GCW update, Jedi updates, and the CU the GCW was alive and kicking. And hell, the Imps acctually were a powerful force too.

you know its nice to see swg vets not totally pist off and venting. not that i didn't do allot of that myself.
i was on ahazi and sold
meds and buffs. crafted like a crazy. (Really crazy) had 30 factories running around the clock. I wasn't one of those doc's who thought that buffs should not be high priced, usually half the price of most docs on my server. the only problem with that was i sold about 400 sets a week easy. What I miss about it was chatting with people that came into my shop, i really enjoyed that part of the game, in other words the community!
If this game can get that kind of community and the dev's are really interactive with us, it will heal allot of hard feeling i have for the mmorpg venue.
anyway nice to see others from swg here i hope many more come by the check this out.
As a current SWG player on the Kett server, this game really interests me, first it isn't one of the tons of Dungeon and Dragons/Everquest clones that seem to be 98% of the mmogs coming out, but it has that fallout, mad max road warrior look.
I'd just like to say WELCOME WELCOME to all those from the Ahazi server. Formerly Joboo Khool I spent a year traveling the landscapes of SWG and totally loved it. Never went jedi I stayed master Rifleman/Commando and assembled hella raiding parties on those Rebel scumholes.
The biggest part of the community I missed was the cantinas when battlefatigue was a big factor. I miss taking a seat in front of a hot pixilated mammasita while she danced my pain away and making a new friend at the same time.
In response to the dev about what content we would like, personally, all I ask is that we can have handheld gatling guns(like the one in predator). I don't know if it's feasable but that is what I would like to have.
Originally posted by Smokeblender I checked the website and it looks good. Does it have that Fallout vibe ? I just LOOOOVE Fallout!
Well this game is the closest thing you will ever get to Fallout Online.
I have heard that Bethsoft does have the rights to the Fallout franchise, and they were supposed to be making Fallout 3. However, with their sudden hard on for console games, I would not be surprised if Fallout 3 just ends up and a third/first person shooter for the x-box 360.
Either way, this game is as good as it is going to get for us PC gamers wanting some old style Fallout action... now if they can just get this game out the door before I die, then I would be happy.
