Lets get this straightened out

I wanna know what everyone thinks of MMORPG

1. does MMORPG = grind

simply because it cannot be avoided and more time = better you will be at that game?  Is this really just inevitable factor in MMORPG with no solution to it? Does people actually like grinding that they have to flame anyone who saya GRIND SUX by saying learn2play?

2. does MMORPG = pve

yes and dont give me some crap about carebear stuff, forget about that.  this has to do with.... Risk vs Carefree.  And by that I mean, does anyone want someone (either same race or different) randomly coming at you when you're afk and killing you and you lose items.  I know that just sounds bad but I'm in.  Count me in on that because I won't be STUPID ENOUGH to be afk at a place like that and I want to kill all these noobs who are (I also want to kill all these gold farmers and botters)

oh and i can't post 2 polls in 1 thread so just answer this way

1.1: Yes, MMORPGs are grind and this way people get what they deserve by putting massive time into

1.2: No, MMORPGs don't have to be a grindfest and there are solutions for this (optional: post solutions)

2.1: Yes, although it may be fun at times, MMORPGs are not about killing others, it's about teamwork and dedication (also I dont wanna lose items/exp by some stupid noob killing me)

2.2: No, I'm not paying $15/month or so to spend all my time forming groups to kill some AI dragons.

    1.2 and 2.1 for me.

I really hate the immature mentality many have about PvP, that the more protection the game gives you from being rudely ganked by other players and having your stuff taken, the more "carebear" the game is.

You know what I pay $15 a month for? To have fun. To explore a virtual world, engage in the game's story, interact with other characters, improve my character, get better gear, and yes, slay AI-controlled dragons.
When I feel like engaging in PvP, I'll do so at my own choice, be it flagging myself or rerolling on a PvP server. Playing a game with aggravating death penalties and free looting PvP is not fun for me. It's fun for the little bastards who are so pathetic that the difference between "fun" and "not fun" to them in an online computer game is based on whether they can make somebody else miserable.

Go ahead and call me a pussy for playing certain kinds of computer games. I'm sure there are many in the world who think you (you being the general immature PvP audience) are a pussy for getting your kicks getting the upper hand over somebody in a computer game. If enjoying a game as a whole rather than looking at most of it as an obstacle between me and ganking more people makes me a carebear, then so be it.

Count me in on that because I won't be STUPID ENOUGH to be afk at a place like that and I want to kill all these noobs who are (I also want to kill all these gold farmers and botters)

I have a feeling the OP is one of those people who would become infuriated if he were corpse-camped, to the point where he'd start smashing his hand into his keyboard or slapping his monitor while shouting obscenities.

you know what, that was the first somewhat sensible arguement i've seen on pro-pve

i'm not saying pve is completely dull and boring and for all that matters, it is an essential part of MMORPG.  But I'm just saying that it can't be what game is 100% of the time, which if they(the current released gaming devs) make a pathetic effort into adding the pvp content, they do so with not much thought.  When i bought WoW, i thought there was gonna be some war involved seeing as how Warcraft 1/2 = war of the races and Warcraft 3 = Scourage and epic struggle AGAINST each other.  In fact, World of Warcraft should really CHANGE ITS TITLE to World of Raidcraft or World of Timecraft.  What i'm trying to say is that .. fine go ahead and make a normal server without pvp with no risk but if you're gonna make a pvp server... do it so that when your whole team or people defending a small village dies, maybe the town gets pillaged, or something.  What's the point of arranging all the people to invade and get no reward and no loss on the other side.

Risk is what drive noobs away from running into a group of people and start smacking the group and get people to start thinking before they act

MMORPGs should be both PvP and PvE... while both can be done in the same world.

Geez, it's ROLE PLAYING GAME. Basicly, your character has a life of its own that you have control over. If some @$$hole tries to rob you in a game and you are as angry as if it had happened in real life, then you're just stupid and unaware of how good is life. But in both games and life, there are people you don't like who will try to rob you no matter what, simply taking out this aspect of life, even in games, is inhuman. It is useless to try to build up a dream world where everyone is happy and pink elephants fly around. When you play a single player game, you do it because of the story and because you don't know what's gonna happen... that's what I want to find in MMORPGs, but most of them, if not all, failed miserably. Do I wonder in dark narrow streets in LA at night? No I don't... it's common sens. But all these carebears don't want dark narrow streets in their game, they want to know exactly what"s going to happen, they want to be as dumb and happy as dogs with the gouvernement (game producers) holding their hand through life so they can know exactly what to expect without being held responsible for any of their actions. That's the life of a carebear in a carebear game.

"I am trying to see things from your perspective but I just can't get my head that far up my @$$."

1.2 and 2.1 for me also.

It's all about the role-playing factor that makes an mmorpg fun. If it was just an mmo game, then it would be Yahoo Games and not an emmersive environment.

    Carebear
    *WoW = Level 60 Priest*
    *EQ2 = Level 25 Druid*
