I'm an accountant, but I admit I could be missing something here or maybe the original article is poorly worded.  Taken at face value, however, "Revenue" has nothing to do with expenses or cash OUTput, be it paying off debt or expenses from amortization.

Revenue is generally just one thing only.  How much cash you've received from sales of your product.

Therefore, assuming the article really does mean "Revenue", this has nothing to do with amortization of an abandoned project or paying off debts.  It has nothing to do with failed projects in general. Revenue, if that's what it really was, only can mean one thing:  Incoming money from their current products is a lot less than what it was last time.

    From the article:

"Revenues for the first six months of the current fiscal year were $36.5 million, down from $36.7 million year-over-year, while earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation were $4.5 million, down from $8.3 million year-over-year."

Would this mean revenue was actually fairly flat at a .2 million difference? Would earning include amortization and such? Or, if not, what would cover the difference in the earning numbers while still appearing to have a relatively steady revenue number? (asking for info, not trying to argue in case it comes across that way)

Ah, sorry, you're right.  So I was reading it wrong. I only read the first and last two numbers.  Guess I was in a rush or something when I read that.

In that case, then yea, everyone else is right.  It is due to increased expenses (which would likely be coming from the dropped projects)

That's what you get when you make tons of People excited about "Walking in Stations", keep them in suspense and excitement for over 2 years and then drop a half arsed attempt in the game (captains quarters), telling People that's it.... sorry we going to do something else instead. (WoD, DUST514 ....one canceled, the other a disastrous failure)

Then the whole suicide ganking fiasco started years ago in High Sec Space and left unchecked till this day. Driving another ton of people away from the game.

All they soon will have left are the goons and other gankers.

Sweet dreams CCP!   You were once my hero Company, full of energy and radiating innovation! An awesome game in their hands.... but then some high ups got greedy, seeing too many dollar signs in front of their eyes and ran everything into the ground!  /facepalm

PS. And then I left out the Whole Monacle gate. /shrug

I like EVE to a certain point, but when the suicide gankers and 'protection' corps started showing up, it destroyed any urge I had to continue in the game.

I understand the whole concept of freedom in the game, but when starting players can't even get up to speed in 'safe' areas before being run out, it affects the growth of the game overall.

Whats so sad is the defenders of this game don't see any of the things people are posting as negitives of the game. They are losing big time and still don't get it. Today a game like this just doesn't work for people anymore and having to pay monthly for it is worse. The only people who are having fun are the goon squads controling the game. I get 1 email a week from them begging me to come back. Its really so sad. CCP was a cool company back in the day but now they have lost all control of what's going on in Eve.

What is so sad is people who don't play the game still posting in threads about the game. You need to learn some coping techniques to deal with that jilted lover complex you are holding on to.

For me it's CCP own faults.

Maybe their execs are genious at their jobs, but the Envisionment of CEO's is poor, short-sighted and greedy. The three big faults for a tech company leader. If the CEO leadership is stained that way, the company is going to suffer failure sooner than later.

But that's not new ~ but many people have been blind from what was happening in front of their eyes. A total blindness in seeing and behaviour.  An old tale for ears that - now - want to listen what was said in the winds of the New Eden's first illuminati, for they were the first to see clearly what was going on among a nitty-gritty fog.

First of it all: when I was no much more than a Minmatar rookie, I was amazed, truly amazed with the Grandeaur of EVE. Its unique light sitll shock me... I woudn't lie if I said the contrary. EVE was one of my most intese love for a MMORPG. And it still beats inside of me; so imagine how hard is to tell all that I have to tell.

After being in other games such as LOTRO or Dungeons & Dragons, or Archlord or even worser korean grinders, and As I come from UO, i was nearly desperate. My native guild moved to WoW, my friends but not-guildies moved to WoW. My enemies went to WoW. Even my table-top rpg fellow gamers moved to WoW.  I played three times the WoW-trial as they all wanted me to meet them in there. But... After 45 days playing WoW i saw it was not for me. I could have said that Despair was my second name.

But one day while I was at work a mistery in the form of an e-mail reached me. It was my former girlfriend telling that she was bored to hell and in need of another game non-Dwarves related. And asked why she told me: "From my perspective of gamer I can say that WoW is the better MMORPG never made, but I'm sick of it". "The Hamster Wheel" I replied. "Yes, the darn Hamster Wheel, how do know it?", replied fastly. "Because all of you are there, doing exactly the same thing over and over and even the dullest people I know is there, and now they think they are great." I typed fastly in my Mac, courtesy of my work place. "What can I do? This is a sort of ... wonderful place where everybody is in great robes and sweet whistles". "So let me take some time, when I leave this building I will make my magic." I wrote. "Ah, what you name research." "Yes, but I have some clue from the start, this time."

When arrived home my sad Windows XP was there, waiting for me and my magic was done. For the time I was learning Icelandic; I sat in front of my pc, switched it on and began my lesson of the day. It was about phone calls amd how to manage through diferent situations, I still remember the lesson name: Símmin. Truly boring, to tell the truth and then I jumped to related web pages... and oh, it was there. EVE Online. On the corner of my desktop WinXP were two little figures of the table strategy game Warhammer. One was a swordsman with long-hair, very simillar to myself, that an artist from Games Workshop gave me for my Birthday, and the other one an Archimage. The Runes were thrown and I started research. My cat Duncan The Celtic Dancer was sleeping near the PC. I sent a link to my ex-girlfriend. She knew of my love for SciFi and my devoteness to the Warhammer High Magic tends to work in strange ways.

The next day she opened a chat window from her job place and told me:"It's all right but my husband wantts to play this too"-"Your husband will first read all the tutorials, it can be Xmas when we start to play. I paid a sub and my ex bought two, one for her and another for husband; we started from the beginning and as she begun to dedicate herself to private bussiness in a greedy formula on how to get all the ISK I embarked in an adventure that is no place here to be described. We were playing and exploring; I became more than a rookie and joined a corp. It was a completely different game. But I went abandoned again as she and husband suddenly wanted to return to WoW. But she has a power to detect problems; first, Incarna was a cash shop in space: And suddenly titanic corps from Russia becom the most important ones.I followed up for some time but it was not  the same.

The graphics were so simple, that i felt someone was scamming me,  But thinks were not a problem. Yhe problem was that zergfest and gate.camping become tjhe norm, More players begun to  leave and  EVE is still bleeding. Thry need  to concentrate in one gamje at the time. WoD was nice but...

It is a question of fangs.

    Correct, it doesn't.

It has everything to do with Dust 514 flop, money that went straight into the drain, as I predicted in one of my blog posts before Dust 514 was even launched.

With that game they basically compromised CCP financial stability.

Dust 514 will die when Destiny is released. Played Dust the other day and it is taking longer and longer to get into matches. They have yet to implement the promised pve content in Dust 514 as well and its also tied to a old platform (ps3).

Out of the two games Bungie have done a really nice job of Destiny and it competes directly with Dust 514 on the PS3. CCP have basically left Dust to wallow in open beta with little to no major content updates for over a year.

CCP deserves the worst for their future since they are treating and have treated devoted fans like s**t lately in every IP they own.

They should sell NOW World Of Darkness's rights to someone else willing to finish that mmo and they should die peacefully since they shooted in his own feet when they decided to axe that project.

Is EvE CCP's only money maker ?  Are it's subs on the rise or falling ?

  • KotorezKotorez Member Posts: 6
Well, not surprised. Keep making shitty projects like Dust514 and making it exclusive to console when their main game is on PC. (CPP marketing research level: 999999999999999999999999.....)

They recently canceled World of Darkness new mmo. Which was being developed in San Fransico.

CCP stated the development was not going as expected, but a studio insider stated that CCP kept stealing members from the team developing WoD to work on Eve and Dust.

WoD was being developed in Atlanta.

The San Francisco office existed only for these two executives and their aides. CCP is cutting back on extras and this office is one of them.

Their option was basically to move out or leave, they chose the latter. That's it, folks.

Doesn't surprise me.. when the game they make is keyed towards PK players to the exclusion of everyone else then there going to eventually have players wake up and leave.

Only took me two years to figure it out...

Next time they should make a game enjoyable for most players and not just one style.

EVE Online used to be a very enjoyable game. I played it for years.

Back then there was a Nice Balance of High Sec and Low sec players.

You had the usual can flipper in High Sec, which you could easily deal with (just quickly swap ships and blow him up hehe).

Then you had the usual PK´ers that wardecced PVE minded corps to gank them in High Sec. Also stuff you could easily deal with.

But then the Whole dissapointment of Walking in Stations started. Leaving you in excitement and suspense for over 2 years and then just leaving you suddenly out cold with a half arsed captain quarters implementation, instead of what they promised.

Then came one crappy expansion after the other, like the failed Faction Warfare for one.

But the worst was, when the suicide ganking started and has gotten completely out of hand! No matter what the Goon propaganda machine and fellow PK´ers keep spouting out.  It´s an unintended exploit CCP should have fixed immediately.

Instead, because of pressure and threats from their hardcode PK PVP´er players they just left it unchecked and continue.

All this has driven away so many players. The game is nothing anymore like it used to be.

I played 10 years eve and was nice. In 2004 they promised us huts, 7 years later we get the huts a prison cell where you sit in beyond and earth was before that already better. Now we are in 2014 they revamp the pos system and everything becomes 1o times expensiver. An empire where you could in mine but now it more game you are ganked. you could become trader they wait you up at every gate at you get podded. The only thing this game is good for is pvp. Also in pve you can be ganked. Also there are lot scammers in the game. The ice belts in empire are now ganking places.

So eve lost his charm is more and more place of gankers, scammers and pvpers. Time for an other game perhaps starlancer from chris roberts.
