Last time I was in the MMORPG sphere, Darkfall was going to be vaporware for the longest time, but I believed and ended up playing it for a while. Was ok, I guess. Then I followed Dawntide, Linkrealms, Xsyon development a bit. Those projects seemed to die down. I wanted to try Wizardry Online, but it's shutting down. EVE I still think is beautiful in it's own regard, but not a game for me.
Quick search and I end up with ArcheAge, Wurm and FFXIV:ARR. Are these the best around for seasoned player, or is there more? Any of the upcoming ones actually promising? I don't mean Age of Conan, Warhammer, Aion type of stuff here.
I went through the usual dabble into old school period of UO, EQ, AC, DAoC, SB. The games were just too much of shadows of their former selves. Shadowbane I would actually want to try again, if it weren't dead. FFXI, if there weren't that Abyssea thing ruining it. Vanguard too, that's dead as well. Everything's dead!
EDIT: Ok, Patheon... Brad McQuaid, let's forget about that one. I have healthy sceptism for this sort of projects through experience... the low budget stuff end up being vaporware or lack half of features, the big budget stuff end up being WoW clones that suck. In Brad McQuaid's case the budget goes up his nose in powder form.

Albion Online looks pretty good, worth looking into imo.
Achaea is good and has an active RP community with good, optional PvP.
