Forgive me for quoting such an old post, but I had to.

AA is not a mmorpg, it is that simple to understand.
Mmorpg = pve and some pvp content with end game raids etc. Gear rules the game but needs to be farmed to get your full set and you will get daily quest to access raids , etc. Raids is the ultimate goal of the mmorpg ( as per the players ) Reality the game goal is to learn your class and live in a fantasy world and do raids to show your valor and knowledge of the game mecanics.
AA = Pvp oriented mmo with open world content and some sandbox elements. The adventure starts at level 1 like in mmorpg's but you don't need to rush to end game. If you do then everything you did from level 1 still needs to be done at max level except you will pvp a lot ( A LOT ). Because the game is base on the pvp + you need, really need to get in a guild otherwise good luck chuck.
That about sums it up. AA is a very good game. But if you are a mmorpg player then don't get into it thinking you only do quest then once you reach max level that you will have dungeons or raids because they dont really exist in this game. ( It is not a pve game ).
That means it's MMO (which AA is) and it's a game where you play roles. By that definition, Archeage is actually more of an MMORPG than what you described because you get to play several distinct roles such as crafter, farmer, pirate, bounty hunter, etc. Why do you even define an MMORPG like that? The second MMORPG to ever exist (Ultima Online) was actually like Archeage, why are you defining MMORPGs as if WoW was the first MMORPG that defined the genre? The first MMORPG was Tibia, which is also very PvP oriented and the end-game was basically leveling your character forever (no level cap) by grinding on finite leveled monsters (because they only made monsters up to a level); controlling your grinding area through PvP was also part of the end-game.
Now for my two cents on this thread: I like the end game (or lack of it) in Archeage. You get to be whatever you want. That said, I still think there should be really hard world bosses that require teamplay and coordination and large groups of people, because that's all part of the medieval fantasy idea of epic quest (like defeating Sauron in LOTR or Smaug in The Hobbit). I think those world bosses should exist for people to be able to have that epic experience of raiding a boss that requires challenging tactics.

No. MMORPG = Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.
