Free games in all their pride! Jump in, play a short while, have fun, but I have a bad feeling about FlyFF. Why? Well if we remember runescape back in the 2D days, when almost everyone were playing for free, there were almost just as much to do being a free player than a paying player. Things changed though, I noticed how stuff were removed for the free players, soon there were almost nothing to do for the free players.
Would you actually call it a free-online game if you only can do like under 50% of the games total value? I certainly would not. I would rather call it a trial or a demo. So are they really "free"?
To my huge surprise I think I got stuck with FlyFF and would not want to see new content being added only for free players, but as I see it I can almost hear the cash rolling into their accounts right now...
Free? or to capture us and then charge for it? What are your thoughts upon free MMO games?

The only good free games are games that are only temporarily free. Demos, betas and Anarchy Online.

Actually, Flyff does charge. If you'll notice, on their web site there is a tab labeled "store." If you go to this link and login, you'll be able to buy what they call GPotato and then trade those GPotatos for in-game items and power ups. The current cost is about $10 per 1000 GPotatos.
I'm not sure how much of an "edge" these items are though.
Sounds funny doesn't it?
Yes sometimes I try to spread the word about my favorite MMO, and it's not free(but cheap) and also required a credit card for a free trial.

I dislike games that are "free" but have a cash shop option.
I do play FlyFF, in fact I'm in the top 100 highest leveled players atm, but I still refuse to buy anything from their cash shop. The prices are outragous - it costs $14.50 just to buy an online outfit for your character that does nothing to help you. If you think that price is high, the rest of the store only gets worse - such as $20 for a cape that adds 100 HP WTF? I'd much rather pay a monthly fee of $14.95 and get much better content and GMs that actually do their job. I hate FlyFF with a passion, there is massive server lag, the GMs are among the most unprofessional I've seen in any MMORPG, the bugs are rampant, the quests are full of fobby typos, and there's nothing else to do but grind. It's a time filler for me and my friends until RFO is finally released from beta.
I agree to all that a 100%. I am also very scared the only MMO I play at the moment is Flyff... and yes the items are truly worthless! That is what worries me, since they are, if they don't get enough cash, they might start charging for the game, that would make the game "better" since then they are encouraged to make it better.
I don't know what to say about the team, I would call them inexperienced absolutely, but when it comes to the server stabilities it's what brings up the economy once again, it's not free to have servers on 24/7... another reason for "Free" to go PPM (Pay Per Month). Then when it comes to the developers personaly, I'd say they are horrible, chatting with the "shout" command like thing about upcoming events and insulting eachother from time to time, gosh I hate that... anyhow, looking forward to RFO too, hope I'll see you there friend.

It may not be free to keep players on 24/7, but if the server is in asia, you can get an UNGODLY amount of server space and bandwidth for as low as $30 American. I'm not sure if the American and European servers are in China or somewhere in the Philipines....
I doubt that they'll start charging for the game since there will always be people that think it's worth at least 5 bucks a month and shuck out $15 every three months for a worthless fashion accessory to keep it going.
In case you can't tell, I like business model since it allows you pay what you feel the game is worth. If you don't like it, you don't have to pay for it, Or even play it....
