I responded to ZiggyD's terrible video in the comments.  He doesn't grasp the game mechanics and now he's going to spread his rhetoric to tens of thousand of subscribers.

Oh a random dude from the internet that woke up and made a random biased video.

    In response read this http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/572/feature/8902/Why-the-Labor-System-is-Good.html/page/1

Oh a gaming site journalist made a positive "feature" about a game that heavily advertises on the site.

In response to this: Labor: Balancing the Economy with 90% Pay2Win.

I get the feeling a lot of the people who played alpha had a good initial impression because they had a very high LP regen rate (about twice as much as an actual subscriber will have). That would have let them enjoy the more sandboxy elements of the game.

Anyway, he did a good job explaining his views, pretty accurate imo. I am glad people are starting to focus on this side of things now, because I would hate to see this sort of dodgy business model, and crippling systems like LP, become more common.

If, from Trion's perspective, it works, and they make a bundle of cash from people who are willing to Pay 2 Win in ArcheAge, you will see artificial rate limiters which players can buy their way around become much more common.

The key question is will it work?  Will those racing to win spend more cash faster before they get bored and quit than long-term players would have spent long term....

I can tell you that in the case of another game, Stronghold Kingdoms, the developer has learned that it is far far better for their bottom line to repeatedly open new worlds (servers) rather than spend their time developing better long-term gameplay for existing worlds.

Because the "racers" spend far more money than the long-term players.  That's the lesson and it's a bad one for most players but a good one for the profit margin of the company.

I am starting to believe that people on these forums have no concept of irony.

    I mean really?

and how is your opinion more accurate than his opinion? they are both opinions.

I personally dont like the Labor Points but if LP is a good system, then AA just implemented it very poorly to make the milk players as much as possible. Typical korean mmo mechanics. That doesnt mean is a good system, not the way it is added to AA.

Still on topic-ish, Rift is developed by Trion right?

Its funny to see the person near the top of the post trying to put the video down....i mean the guy puts out a lot of facts and clearly enjoyed the game and is not writing it off even with these crappy changes, yet the poster rages on him in the most cliche way ever.

I heard so many good things from people early on and somewhat enjoyed the game myself, even just the generic PVE stuff to a degree, but you quickly realize early on how horrible the labor system can really be. This is from someone who got to around 20 and pretty much never used LP for anything other than opening coin pouches and identified gear.

I didnt even know much about those crafting crystals and how they limited how you get them, but just so conviently made them avalible (even though its not 100%) in the cash shop. The game went from one that i was going to put some money into and enjoy as a secondry MMO to something that if not changed VERY soon will completely ignore and forget about.

You can sit there and say 'well they need to make money somehow" but games like Dota, LoL, and what the video mentions Path of exile all make plenty of money and sell little to no game effecting content in the cash shop. Those games make lot of money and get tons of good will, which then means people buy things just to support them because they were so 1) well designed games and 2) not being greedy at all with the microtransactions.
