Are you freacking kidding me ??? A MMO released in 2014 that does not have a height or weight slider??? Really ArcheAge??
Ill still be giving this game a go but a lack of different body types is really unacceptable for a AAA MMO released in 2014 especially one touting itself as a sandbox....

OMG a game that has real physics like toppling trees, waves, gravity (mounts/hills) and being able to harpoon ships across land with real physics are you kidding me.
Physics to this standard are an evolution for MMO, guess adding in all body configurations would be putting too much demand on older systems.

Yeah that's true, But still even for a 2013 or 2012 game its odd.

Nah, i think it's fine.
I prefer this over player's ability to make degenerated characters.
Child sized characters, 3 meters tall dude but maybe 10kg, child body with 2x the size of an adult's head etc..
IMHO, every MMORPG should have a height slider. It gives the player an additional customization tool and it isn't difficult to implement. It also adds additional variety to the game. The height differences do not have to be huge. Even a slight height variation makes a difference. Anything that gives players additional customization and individuality is a good thing.
If it does for you, you are playing these games for the wrong reasons.

I think when you start a character, it should be a teenager, as you progress in the game it ages and gets stronger because that's how it works in nature.
You're characters' appearance is influenced by the role you take on... an in-your-face warrior is going to be bulky and stout as it gets older and stronger. A caster-type will stay slim and trim because it's not a physical based fighter. Body types should make sense for the role they play, because in reality, Arnold Schwarzenegger would never be a ballerina as a body builder.
You should also be able to adjust the cosmetics at will... long beard, short stubble, red dye, tattoos, piercings, hair styles.
So basically you body build is locked to your role, it's appearance changes as you age, and you can adjust cosmetics at will.
Exactly... they have all these character customizations to turn your character into a Playboy model and yet, the whole point is to shrink wrap the character in armor that basically looks hideous by comparison. Hell, you might as well have a stick figure as a character because you will rarely ever see it.
I mean, Blizzard did all those character model updates... but in the end, it's still going to be hidden behind the same armor. I suspect the changes will ultimately go unnoticed for the most part once they are clad in their usual face mask armor.
You prefer a game that promotes itself as a next generation sandbox MMO to not have the ability to make a distinctive character to role play and stand out with?
I have played since the Russian server launch on and off and now with Trion's version. It is disappointing to see such lack of character customization.
I love the concept of what AA could be. Unfortunately the more I play it and read up on it.... the more I become dis-heartened with what it is becoming. In the last few betas the community and faction chat has become more toxic than anything Barrens chat or WoW in general could produce. I have got to the point in open beta that I just minimize my chat window because it is so bad.... very little game related and absolutely no RP when it comes to trials.
I think in SWTOR I noticed I kept bumping my head because I was too tall and fall off just when I was almost to the datacron. Pointless customization to be honest and if it is just an imaginary thing that makes absolutely little difference why bother.
I think they focused on the right thing and avoided such useless customization and saved their database from having to save that piece of information. So when they make obstacles and such they will not have to worry that someone is too tall and get through.
It doesnt have a tits slider?
NEXT...
they are nice, indeed, but they are NOT revolutionary or never been done before.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

It's a Korean free to play mmo and you expect more? Free to play quality will always be lacking and AA is a living prove of it.

My opinion
The only thing that come out of height and wieght sliders are fat midgets. so good thing its not in.
But you don't know what you're talking about because you clearly haven't played the game.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
that would be a lame excuse if they come up with it..... if you play on an older system you know you should play on low settings to solve that problem. That doesnt mean people with better systems have to endure the lack of customization. So yeah, lame excuse.
As far as I can see this is not a thread over which you would prefer to have most, "greater customization or game play?" If it were the case I am certain most, if not all of us would prefer better game play. This is a thread about lack of character customization. Just because a player wants greater character customization doesn't mean they prefer it over game play. It really isn't that difficult to have both in an MMORPG so long as it doesn't go over board. There are games that were designed years ago with better character customization than AA. Aion and Perfect World come to mind and IMHO neither affected the game's game play. It is not a matter of having one or the other. It is possible to have both.
Small avatars have an advantage in PvP due to smaller hitboxes. For the type of game Archeage wants to be, it's a good thing there are no height sliders.
tab targeting?

Please do not respond to me
Ever tried trying to target a small mage trying to hide behind a big dude in shiny armour? If you're trying to tab target in a big PvP battle you're doing it all wrong!
Or skinny dudes with huge heads, no thanks.
Ugh... reminds me of the monstrosities that ran around in Aion...
Some people should never be given the option to customize a character. EVER.
And the lack of a height slider isn't unprecedented. TERA doesn't have one either if I recall correctly, and those models look damn gorgeous.
Sorry OP, but I'm with Drunk-fu on this. I can live with the limitations if it ensures the game looks great.
