Skyforge: The Paladin Revealed

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

My.com and the Skyforge team are unleashing the Paladin in a new update on the official site today. The update includes a video showing the Paladin in action and information about basic and advanced abilities.

The main feature of this class is a large number of defensive skills that include the removal of negative effects and resistance to control. The Paladin's abilities do not end there: some of them massively increase damage; others make monsters focus on him. He can also control his enemies, stun them and knock them down, slow down and even immobilize them. Unlocked talents will multiply your damage, restore health and increase your movement speed. All of these abilities can be used to create various combinations that will best suit your style of play. But bare in mind that the potential of the "tank" class should be tested out in group play. A good combination of passive and active skills will help heroes and their allies emerge victorious from the most dangerous fights.

The Paladin is one of the most durable and hardy classes in the game. Temporary invincibility will help him escape from seemingly hopeless situations and turn the tide of battle. When things go really badly, the hero sanctifies the ground around him and gains the ability to use any skill without spending "righteous anger." For continuous DPS, a Paladin must be near his target. He can either draw the fleeing enemy to himself or dash towards them knocking them down. The attacks of this class are not the strongest, but they are not the Paladin's only weapon. His primary task is to draw enemies' attention to himself and let his teammates or his high survivability do the rest.

Really looking forward to this game!

  • Great!  Did you get a chance to check out the Cryomancer as well?

Never really been much of a fan of any paladin class but after watching the trailer, I think I may have found the class I want to try out first when it launches.
  • Cool!  The nice thing about Skyforge is that you can try a class and if you don't like it you can always switch to a different class any time you're not in combat

Never heard of this game.  Looks interesting.  If it's tab target, i'll fall asleep.  I mean I'll pass lol.  If it plays anything like Tera, I'll check it out.
  • Skyforge's combat system is based on mouselook control, with optional direct targeting.  However, this is something that we're going to look to the community for feedback on during the betas.

The fighting looked neat but it also looked like it was the same 3 or 4 skills over and over again. They always have a talent for making that look much cooler than it actually is for the player. If it's just a matter of hit the move once the cool down is up and there's no real link to what's actually happening in the fight I always get bored.

What I mean by that is if the mobs just attack and you just attack and whoever has the best stats wins all those spins and slams just become part of the normal fight. Why games like TERA did them so well is because you couldn't just spam buttons and watch cool animations.. The BAMs would push in your face if you weren't watching. there has to be some kind of player reaction or interaction with combat so it's not just button spam.

I do not know why, but watching the vid made me think of how depressing Paladin is in FFXIV....stupid job can't even really heal itself, but of course Warrior can...They should've just went with how XI structured paladin, it would work out better

Happy to hear that, the action based combat in this game is what pulls me in. And that you can change classes out of combat. Nice effects and animations for the Paladin. I like the fact it's sword and board without that caster thing. Looking forward to more info, cool game!

The skill based no leveling system is the feature I am most excited about. Can you tell us when we can expect  beta / release? Thx

I agree. Even though i was sarcastic about PALADIN class (aren't MMO developers tired of this class already?) but the combat really looks amazing. Better than any MMO currently on the market.
