[Column] The Secret World: Starting Over

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Now that convention season is coming to an end MMORPG is slowly getting back to the normal routine. This means we’re back to our every other week schedule! And just in case you missed it I got to interview Joel Bylos about all things related to The Secret World. This of course happened before he released his August Game Director’s letter which came out at the end of last week.

Read more of Shannon Doyle's The Secret World: Starting Over.

I have and always played on Arcadia (RP) server.

Just tell us when you made up your mind on which faction you going to reroll.

And I'll join and reroll a new char too and join the cabal. Tho I play during European times.

EDIT. Seems to be 10PM my time. Fine With me. :)

I've needed a good reason to start over in TSW, so count me in.

I hope we roll Illuminati as mentioned in the article.

I'll be glad to join up. Just let us know which faction. I don't mind tanking or healing. I never made it past Egypt in TSW though so not familiar with high level areas. Will be fun to explore though =)

I have been thinking about reinstalling this game and continuing my character. She's almost at endgame so I can probably get to Tokyo without too much more work. I'm curious to see how the rest of the story goes! Either way I definitely think you should go Illuminati. It's a lot of fun and definitely a different atmosphere/style than the other two factions. Plus, Kirsten Geary is great.

Templar are the best all the way! They just have that great classic secret organization feel going for them. Very old world.

Do you really walk everywhere? That's crazy but really cool! If I manage to be available I just might have to join you.

I have it but don't currently play. If I had some folks to play with I'd probably be down to log back in. I'll try to keep track of your future column entries!

Now that the course ended I was planning to take some time off of LotRO anyways (maybe after Bilbo's birthday, there will be great events during that week), and a TSW restart sounds nice. Last time I've made a new character was almost a year ago...

Can't tell my October layout this early, but I try to leave some Saturdays free and be there. In my "No bad PUGs" mmorpg trenchcoat. Because that looks cool.

Factions, all 3 fine to me, but if there's a vote, then Loomies and KG, obviously :)

  • meticmetameticmeta Member UncommonPosts: 10
Yeah, the only time I don't walk is when running for your life is important or the task at hand calls for it. It makes for a slower paced game but it gives me time to stop and smell the roses, or rotting corpses which are far more likely.

I'm glad to see so many people are interested in giving this a go! I'll work out some more details in the coming days. But from the sounds of it most everyone wants to do Illuminati. I'll give it another day before I declare them the winner though.

This sounds like alot of fun, I'm really interested in joining up for this and starting over from scratch.

The stories are just so engrossing, TSW has always been one of those MMO's that just sucks me in.

This is a game I really like, however its very hard to play, due to lts lag spikes and fluctuating fps. I have a 17 2600k and gforce 760 and it still doeesnt matter :( I can turn down my gfx settings, but its still bad. I bought this game over a year ago and still isn't any better. I am not sure if funcom cant afford to at lest make it better or its just a poor engine, I really like the stories in it, really pulls you in, but, the fps/lag issues prevents from playing it.sigh.

I'd be interested in this, too. I've considered starting a new character as well. Illuminati's a great choice (yes, I'm a bit biased there, since I live in NY and have already been playing that faction :p). The Pyramidion and Kirsten Geary alone are reasons enough to join 'em.

    Sounds good , I'll roll a alt.

    I'm good with any faction.

This could end up being very interesting.

I've been looking for a reason to get back into the game and this is as good as any. Maybe I'll now see some of the group content!
  • ScopiqueScopique Member UncommonPosts: 4
    Aww yeah! I'll join!

I have never played it but considered it. I heard it could get hard, takes more effort than the average MMO and a lot of people tend to play it solo. I especially hate to play MMOs solo. I enjoy the social side of it. If it needs more attention than most MMO games I may not enjoy it either.

However I love the idea of the horror settings and a different environment from sword and sorcery or sci fi games. I played a Clive Barker game  and a game called Realms of the Haunting  a long time ago which were single player but very immersive. I would love to have a group of people to play through this. Would  this game be suitable for me you reckon based on what I have mentioned about myself.

The setting will remind you a lot of Clive Barker's works. There are parts of the game that feel like they came straight out of Hellraiser. Especially the storylines that take place on the Savage Coast and around the motel.

I'd say give it a go.

Also, yes it can be hard at times. But well worth it!

Always plenty of free trial keys to be had on the buddy keys thread in the Secret World section of the mmorpg.com forums if you want to try it before buying it.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

while i dont roleplay because in TSW i role female characters, this sounds like a good idea to go back to the game. I stopped playing because soloing all the time got boring (rarely found people to share objectives) and mobs got tougher than my character lol. So this gives me a chance to play with more people.

Let us know, Shannon, when you decide on a server and faction. I might give it a go for fun.

I'm intrigued by this... never got too far in TSW due to running solo and feeling too "alone" in the world, but I LOVE the setting and have had it since Beta. Will be keeping tabs and probably look for you on Saturdays in October )

Awesome, still love this game .

New character.. not a bad idea at all when the days get short I feel like it is time to revisit Kingsmouth

Wish it had some sort of housing system though it could be even more immersive to return to the apartment we had in the intro.

    great idea with the cabal

Oh I really like the sound of this :)  I'll happily roll a new character. Faction? I'd prefer Illuminati, second is Dragon, already have a max level Templar. Let us know for sure and I'll do my best to be there, great game, can't wait to see all the changes.
