Instead of body modification XL decided to focus more on gameplay features - right decision IMO.
Yeah, because no game has ever been able to do both. Personally, the body modification issue doesn't bother me in the least. It's never been that important to me. But I think it's silly to use the excuse that "They focused on gameplay" as the reason why.
I agree. I am tired of hearing this. With the multitude of games demanding our attention I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for slick visuals, customization, AND fun gameplay. We don't go to buy a new car and say "I want an ugly car that runs well". If a game developer is not willing to bring more to the table then it's not worth my time.

If you played Archeage and its not worth it because of something like character height, then to be honest we dont want your type of player anyway.
Thanks for trying the game though. Feel free to go back to WoW now.
Are you freacking kidding me ??? A MMO released in 2014 that does not have a height or weight slider??? Really ArcheAge??
Ill still be giving this game a go but a lack of different body types is really unacceptable for a AAA MMO released in 2014 especially one touting itself as a sandbox....
Why is everyone calling this a AAA title? It could, possibly have the largest budget of any game to come out of KOREA in the last year, but based on my understanding, this game had investments from external investors that added up to like $15 million. Shoot, by those standards Allod's must also be a AAA title, since it cost like $10 million years ago. Damn, I mean WoW cost $60 to develop 10 years ago!
So apart from the fact that they're attached to Trion Worlds now (a fact that I'm sure Trion is now lamenting with all the P2W talk and such) what is it that makes this game a AAA title. What differentiates it from the 1000 other MMORPGs that have been spun out of Korea in the last 12 months?

fair point. There are two reasons.
1. Its associated with Trion which you already mentioned.
2. it looks, smells, plays and breathes EXACTLY like a AAA MMO.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

It's a gear game, it's too "hard" for them to have the bright shiny graphics people seem to think are soooooo important while letting players express themselves and vary too far from some one else's version of "beauty".
City of Heroes started more than 10 years ago and it had more character customization than the games released today.

#2 I agree with for sure. #1 I'm kinda on the fence about. Trion is no stranger to the F2P model in North America and they've, apparently, done quite well with their implementation of it in Rift. Shoot, I even threw some money at Rift with their hybrid sub/F2P implementation. So why are they being so aggressive with the F2P model implementation with Archeage? It's obviously a put-off for many, so do they feel that the market is too small to monetize a larger segment of the market? Do they feel the game isn't going to be appealing to the core North American MMORPG gamer? I kinda wonder if that's the case (hence my comment about Trion lamenting the fact that they licensed it). IMO, if I was Trion, I would have sub-let this license to someone like Perfect World. Someone who's already known for aggressive F2P models. For Trion I think it might tarnish what, I feel, has been an ok reputation for their F2P practices to date.

But that's the straw man you guys built not what the OP said. As a matter of fact neither the OP nor anyone else has said that this is an issue that by itself would keep them away from the game.
It's fair criticism of a piece of the whole thing and there is no need to invent reasons as to why it has to be that way. It's a feature that is less than A+. That's all there is to it.
Like every other game, it has things you might like and things you might not like so much. As far as visuals go, the conspicuous absence of any NPCs who look older than 16 is a worse thing than the "8 bodies fit all" issue.
It's not like there aren't any white knights in this thread who haven't been in other MMO sub-forums here for games they don't like trashing equally trivial shit... know what I mean?
This game has a certain look and that is a part of the whole package. Does it not being everyone's cup of tea really make you feel that insecure?

MMO avatars are not characters, they are more like chess pieces or some other abstract thing. They don't have a back story or a future, they don't have any way to really make any mark on the world they move around in.
MMO avatars don't need customization because they are not characters. Any customization that happens is for monetization or treadmill purposes anyway, so learning to live without it is a good thing.
MMORPG players are often like Hobbits: They don't like Adventures
But you don't know what you're talking about because you clearly haven't played the game.
Sure he did, though i have no graphic issues, besides the beach that looked like many things but sand.
And i've also noticed npc's that spoke to you English then started to spoeak Korean at the next sentence.

Nah, i think it's fine.
I prefer this over player's ability to make degenerated characters.
Child sized characters, 3 meters tall dude but maybe 10kg, child body with 2x the size of an adult's head etc..
Ugh... reminds me of the monstrosities that ran around in Aion...
Some people should never be given the option to customize a character. EVER.
And the lack of a height slider isn't unprecedented. TERA doesn't have one either if I recall correctly, and those models look damn gorgeous.
Sorry OP, but I'm with Drunk-fu on this. I can live with the limitations if it ensures the game looks great.
Yes, it gets worse if you also allow the guild's emblem to be shown on people's cloak...
Oh yeah, that adds a whole other layer of ugliness.
Not to mention all the immersion breaking stupidity that ends up running all over the place.
You don't have to tell me, Aion was my first P2P mmo back then. The ugliness of some characters were unbearable to look at. Not to mention the cloaks. It was a huge minus on their part, they allowed such extreme details in customization. You can imagine them with the legion name Handjob and such.

I don't remember which mmo was it, that had seven settings just for the boobs, from angle through shape to size.
I don't beleieve this adds much to the gameplay. Actually, settings for height, even if implemented, must be limited.
Because it's just kills the mood. At least i can't take a game seriously where a 20cm tall char can deal the same as my 190 one. Not to mention games like Tera/B&S with their pedo race.

Ironically before playing Aion I would've probably been in the "Unlimited character customization can't be a bad thing!" camp.
What an eye opener that proved to be. :P
City of Heroes had the capacity to make some ugly characters too, but they were always consistent with the rest of the game's art style.
While Aion had the absolutely gorgeous character models running right next to chibis from a badly drawn manga and abominations like the ones you linked. It was like someone grabbed characters from various different media and just imported them all into the game. No consistency whatsoever.

Maybe they'll add body size and height sliders later on. Like maybe adjust 1cm per 50 LP.

Character customization is PART of gameplay.
This x1000. The above is why I don't bother with Korean MMOs at all anymore. They all suffer from exactly the same nonsense.
