I Love Minecraft but hate Microsoft. Would this mean no more Linux version or Mac version just Windows versions? Damn kill the best fastest growning mmo to release in the present past. The Community is what makes Minecraft still thrive. The Mods, The Skins, The Maps, The textures, The whole Damn game being fully customized to you and the communiy's liking.
Sell it to Microsoft and it's the end of a great era. RIP Minecraft if it happens.
Nahh not at all.
They most likely do it, so they can force Mojang to bring out Windows Phone and Windows Marketplace (tablet) Version of Minecraft.
Microsoft is currently desperately trying to get a foothold with Windows Phone. And it really is a very good OS! They were just late to the game. /shrug

Couldn't agree more. I love Windows 8.1. Having my phone, Asus Transformer Book and Gaming PC all running windows 8.1 I can't imagine working, playing or surviving with anything but.
People that need to bash windows phones are silly. People that bash anything are silly. I have a big /cheer for iphone users for the 6plus! no bash from me.
I instinctively distrust Microsoft's goals in things like this. As a developer they are "meh", but as a business they are ruthless. They seem inept a lot of the time, but still, ruthless. If they can remove updates from future versions of the PS4 Minecraft, or come up with a new Windows 8 Only version, they will. If Games For Windows Live is any indication, they don't seem to care if that lock-in control comes with the caveat that a lot of the games they sell will simply be unplayable for a lot of people, and a solution will never be presented for those people other than finding a hacked replacement for the stupid DLL file.
On the other hand, Mojang has one game and that's pretty much it. It's a huge monster of a game, but they haven't followed that one game up with anything other than versions of that game on other platforms. Focusing on development might let them get something else done. Or maybe not. Is it really worth $2bn to get Minecraft on a Windows Phone? How many people are not buying a Windows Phone because they don't have Minecraft? Other than start restricting access to the game, what can Microsoft do with Minecraft?
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Originally posted by Rastan1 Forget that. How bout Mojang buys Microsoft instead. It could only improve things. I hope they don't sell out.
And if you were in his shoes, you would just pass up and ignore the oportunity to be financial independed the rest of your live?
You don't know much about the minecraft franchise do you? My kids alone own probably 200 dollars worth or Mojang branded merchandise on top of having a few copies of the game. They're having gravy with those mashed potatoes already.
Bwahahahaha!! If this is true then Notch is possibly the biggest hypocrite ever. Remember when Oculus sold to Facebook. He is literally quoted as stating:
"Facebook is not a game tech company. Facebook has a history of caring about building user numbers, and nothing but building user numbers........"
... but if it ends up being true, I'd understand Notch to cash out, build an empire out of that money and insure his kids and their kids never need to worry about anything in the world. And then he can go back to doing what he loves, building games, without a worry in the world and without the pressure of having to sustain Mojang and its IP.

Originally posted by Stizzled I wonder what this might mean for Minecraft on non-Windows based platforms. Money talks but, if they're doing this to try and get a leg up in the console race, will MS really be okay with the game also being on all of Sony's platforms? I'm not exactly sure how this purchase could help them at all as far as consoles are concerned.
The first thing I see MS doing is converting it from Java to the MS equivalent, C#. What this truly is, the first salvo at Java. In the battle of cross platform virtual machine supremacy.
You have a money making machine (MMM) (X1), that is not doing so well. So you spend $2B and buy a second MMM that earns you $400M a year (maybe). Why not buy a first MMM (X1) related MMM (Bungie). Fixing what is wrong with X1. Then still have two money making machines.
I'm assuming that what is wrong with X1 is that it doesn't have exclusive rights to top games and developers.
Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven Boy: Why can't I talk to Him? Mom: We don't talk to Priests. As if it could exist, without being payed for. F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing. Even telemarketers wouldn't think that. It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.
There's been a lot of talk about a possible XB1 without a disk drive. MS have wanted to phase out physical game sales (and disks with it) since their announcement of the XB1. I wouldn't put it past MS to remove the BlueRay drive from some future Xbox versions and push forward with their original Steam like distribution platform they had originally planned.
remember the massive flop that was the PSP GO? If Xbox forces digital games on everyone by removing the disc drive the box is so doomed.... I have a PS4 but i dont want the competition to die because it affects everyone.

I dont think if xbox were to die off like dreamcast it would really have much of an effect. It would just go back to the way it was during the N64 vs PS1 days where the games were amazing and playstation games were only about 40-50 dollars, only this time it would be Wii U vs PS4 and 3DS vs Vita. Same with when it was Gamecube vs. PS2 since the first Xbox came out a little later after those.
I think the problem is quite frankly how the xbone is 20-30% weaker thank the ps4 performance wise, which makes a noticable diffrence in cross platform titles between the 2, bascally the xbone one is always inferior, lower res, lower poly counts, sometimes lower res textures, and lower fps. Xbone also doesn't have any good exclusives really to warrant buying a xbone over a ps4. While the ps4 will probally end up having all the rpgs and such like ps3 and x360 gen was. Most of the xbone exclusives are just shooters we've played tons of times, new skin over it won't change it much. The problem also is ps4 just has the better games as a whole, not even counting graphical performance, they just have a better variety of titles, and the gap is getting bigger and bigger. If your a game producer wanting to make a rpg for 1 console, your probally going to go with ps4 compared to a xbone simply for the fact there is over double the amount of ps4's out there to xbones. Most jrpgs never come out across mutiple consoles at the same time, the amount of work they take is much more than some generic shooter like call of duty etc. I don't own a ps4 or a xbone yet, most of the games i'd rent on it, I can get on pc, they both just lack anything that grabs me. Only game i know of in the future I'd buy is persona 5. I have 0 faith in ff15 being any good, it will probally use the same generic squaresoft plot they have reused since ff4. Though at least this time they aren't going with the boring as shit ATB battle system they usually go with.

A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

For the 3ds vs vita fight, I think the 3ds wins, it just has a better variety of games. I mostly play rpgs and the only one on vita I know i'd buy is p4golden, I do own a 3ds and have lets see... 13 games, with persona Q being my next title to purchaise, I'm a big atlus fan, most of my 3ds games are published by atlus. The Smt series mostly. Rune Factory 4 though is by far my favorite title on the system so far, but I think persona q will end up dethroning that.

Also he didn't say anything on Twitter (https://twitter.com/notch) nor on Mojang's blog (https://mojang.com/) so I think it may mean he's at least negociating now.
