The lack of trees to harvest is a bit stupid
Trees EVERYWHERE, but you can't get anything from them. I have played since the kickoff this morning and explored for hours and hours, not even worried so much about leveling. I came across three....that is 3......trees I could actually do something to. I was told to plant some in my garden so I did.....says I have to wait 10 hours. And for what? 10 pieces of wood each? And my housing lot is supposed to not be safe after how long? 3 days? Oh I can buy wood on the AH.....if I want 20 pieces for all I am worth. How the hell am I supposed to finish my house before it is destroyed??

Why would your house get destroyed .......plant tree's everyone else has the same problem
I never built a house in AA, but it seems to me you should gather all the wood and other materials you need for it before starting construction?

Yea....because there will be so many land plots available after all my trees grow. How do you think that would have worked out for me? This is bad design, period. Opening day land grab means you get your house asap and grab your land or be left with nothing....yet we are not going to give you the available resources to farm to build it. Poor design, period. The lack of trees to harvest is absurd, no reason for it.
So what exactly was your plan? Enlighten me please.
Well my plan was to plant trees .....see there is a public tree farm those that used their heads have trees those that didn't have a house under construction . If getting trees is an issue for you , you'll really be saying WTF when you have to do something difficult

Plus, realize that it takes time for trees to grow in the game. I passed about a dozen or so trees earlier yesterday that were still in either Sapling or Young state, but later last night they were harvestable and all mine (found a really cool one that gave me 13 logs!...oh the awesome!).
You just have to really search for them. There are many harvestable trees sitting up high that's barely reachable by only glider, so get to exploring.
P.S. Realize that everyone needs trees right now and there are 1,000's of players on all the servers fighting each other for the right to get trees. Besides the growers, that is.
Get a Farm, Plant your Trees, Join a guild, Share your resources.
Learn the game. 40+ players in my guild all but 4 have their houses built already so what did you do wrong. YOu expected it to be there for you and not have to work for it. SURPRISE this isnt WOW!
That makes sense and you really don't want to build your house out of any random tree either even if it is the right type of tree. Bug infestations, age and so fort means you do need to pick trees for building carefully.
But still, the percentage of tree you can use might be a bit low. For building a large ship is one thing, in the times of sails they were usually rather picky there but you still can use a lot of trees to build a house.
The trick in a MMO is making the crafting mats rare enough but not too rare to maximize the fun. AA Might need to balance that somewhat.
There are plenty of ways to obtain wood:
1) Plant your own trees in a public or personal farm (risk free as no one can steal them)
2) Take a risk and plant some "illegally" (could be stolen)
3) Search for illegally planted trees and steal them (could be reported/sent to jail)
