People who've already preordered the game will also receive these bonuses at launch, according to the recent newsletter.
Thank you, glad you mentioned this, because i Bought into the beta 5 days ago, so was a bit concerned i would have to purchase more, glad you clarified it
And btw, the game is super hard, but very immersive and fun so far!
I just watched some beta gameplay recently and was very impressed.
But from what I could tell isnt the Eagle is the starter rookie ship? If so what is the advantage of having another one somewhere in the Elite galaxy? I would think you'd want out of the rookie ship ASAP, which then make that "extra" ship worthless.
"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."
so just to be clear if i purchase this mercenary edition i dont get into beta just a digi download of game on release?seems a bit odd for £15 more i can get the beta version and access now plus all the same bonus stuff on merc edition.i do have an headache so maybe not understanding this.
nvm i get it now.
game is looking great btw anyone know if mining is planned in future?
@Hokie The starter ship is the Sidewinder, an allround ship. The Eagle is an entry level fiighter. So it gives you an option for a more specialised entry level vessel for combat missions.
@natpick Yes, if you choose to support Elite by pledging extra beyond the standard preorder you get beta access so you can help test the unfinished version of the game, and will still get the bonus content.
First, let me say I supported this game (Elite:Dangerous) via Kickstarter. Because I loved Elite (original) and trust Braben to at least deliver something playable.
Having said that, I think all this pre-order / early access / steam early access / paid beta stuff that is going on is getting way over done. It's not a good thing for the gamers or the industry in general.
At present I am playing another game that had a Kickstarter / Indegogo / Early Access type release. It's not a bad game now - after we (early access players) beta tested it. And not two months out of release it is on sale at 80% off. Which has left a lot of the Early Access / beta testers feeling a bit ripped off. I don't feel that way, but I fully understand those that do.
What happened to the days of selling a complete released game? That works? That is feature complete? That includes everything without constant "DLC' packs sucking money from customers?
Not to mention it's as confusing as hell for customers. What did I buy? Did I just get ripped off by the latest offer?
Maybe I'm just old fashioned?
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
Any indication when the release date might be ?
How close is it ?
They still appear confident about a 2014 release, but there's still a lot of content and features that haven't made their way into Beta yet. So I'm thinking it will be December at the earliest, but I also wouldn't be suprised if release gets delayed. But these are just my guesses.
Ship progression is not just starter < everything else. The Sidewinder is a great overall ship. It can fight, has a little cargo space and decent fuel capacity (larger jump range). The Eagle is a combat ship, almost no cargo capacity and a smaller jump range.
Every ship has a role in ED so having an Eagle at the start saves you quite a bit of credits if you want to jump into combat as soon as possible.
Also, if your ship is destroyed you currently get a Sidewinder replacement for free but it only has the base loadouts. Having an extra ship to use in the case that you can't afford to buy the insurance to replace your old ship would be really helpful (note currently you can only own one ship at a time in ED but that is changing before release as also mentioned in the newsletter).
