LFG like DDO

seridurseridur Member UncommonPosts: 25

Lokking for a game like DDO:

What I like in DDO:

-dungeon crawling

-good for duoing with my gf

-combat is exciting, lots of tactic involved

-great character customization

i'm looking for a similar gamefor trying something fresh. F2P model is prefered, but not necessary.

Thanks

Guild Wars 1 is the closest I can think of. DDO is a really unique  and good game.

If you don't mind super heroes then I recommend DCUO believe it or not.  In fact there are many higher level dungeons designed specifically for duos.  It has some of the best rock, paper, scissors style of action combat on the market with its attacks, blocks, and counters.  The character customization is also top notch. Their f2p model is not too bad either.  I also have a feeling that the closer the new Batman V Superman movie gets to release that the more tie-ins we will start to see with that game.

Yep. Neverwinter Online copies it in some ways, so that may be of interest to the OP. Most of its gameplay also revolves around instant dungeons, with active combat.

Other than that, LOTRO comes to mind. I have no personal experience with it, but it always sounded like it had a lot in common with DDO.

SWTOR's also a good game for duoing with someone, especially if you choose to take on the Flashpoints together with your companions* (effectively making you a full party).

    * Think of them as improved versions of DDO's merc contracts, except permanent and with stories of their own.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Neverwinter is a pretty good option, keeping in mind it's the D&D universe in a bit different setting. Almost every quest takes you to a dungeon which you can clear by yourself or with some partners. Not only that, but players are able to create their own content, resulting in wide variety of custom dungeons awaiting for you with some rich treasures within them.

If you don't mind a bit of open world and like the fantasy setting, you should take a look at LOTRO, Rift & Guild Wars 2.

SWTOR is a pretty good option as well, but since you prefer dungeons and F2P model, I wouldn't highly suggest it.

Neverwinter sucks and is really nothing like DDO at all other than both games using instances a lot. Neverwinter doesn't really bother using any actual D&D mechanics and class customization is terrible. It couldn't be more opposite of DDO if it tried actually.  LOTRO is a good game in its own right but other than being made by the same company I don't think it has much in common with DDO either.

If you don't mind playing over LAN, definitely try these:

    Dungeon Siege 2

    Titan Quest

    Torchlight 2
