I've was about to subscribe to patron status assuming it would be similar to other mmos meaning about 8.99 UK pounds upon doing so I found it was actually 10.99 . even though I can afford it this is a bit of a hike in price compared to what I am used to and its got me asking myself if I want to pay this amount each month given there are other games out there I enjoy as much like FF14 which I can play for less . I suspect what I will end up doing is waiting to see what its like as free to play and just play it casually ( when I can log in that is ) before I work out if its worth the more expensive subscription fee .
I think its a decent enough game from what I have seen of it in the beta and the few times I have been able to log in since the releae due to the ques . I think I need to see how much it becomes pay to win and if people spending more than the subscription fee which is already higher than most get even more of an advantage by spending extra money in the cash shop because if they do then its a bit of a double whammy .
I am a big supporter of free to play I think it works well for lot of games and I am fully aware that what it usually amounts to is a really long free trial and if I enjoy them I am more than happy to subscribe . What worries me in a pvp centric game is pay to win . Now if the pay to win is limited just to those who pay a subscription fee price I say thats fair enough but if people are able to use the cash shop to boost their character by making extra payments beyond the monthly fee that could be a deal breaker for me .

cheaper to buy credits in bulk than paying sub.
bonus credits is why.
game is pay to win if you want best gear possible fast
Lets see...if you pay for a month and play 100 hours...25 hrs a week, which is pretty average.
That's about 10 cents an hour, one hell of a value no matter which way you cut it.
That's cheaper than movies and a popcorn.
As far as pay to win...it's not.
It's pay to get cool stuff faster...maybe
which is fine by me. Trion is not a charity, they need to make money.
In fact, I hope they make money because I want AA to stay live for a long time to come.
Well, if well played the patron can last at least 40days.
Imagine this situation:
You have a farm
you pay the taxes at day 16
your patron ends on 17
you keep playing as a f2p
day 23 u need to pay more taxes but you have 1 week to do it
So you only pay taxes in day 29 for example, its when you activate patron again.
If thats ok for you having the f2p LP regen from 17 to 28 thats 11 days, means the patron last 41 days.
I bought patron with sub plan because buy credits didnt work, i need to check better and see whats the best deal for me anyway.
Good point but ff14 or WoW charities but both charge less and do very well out of it .My point is there is a lot of competition out there . It doesn't just apply to games but everything in business .Its all about the perception of value for money . I question the wisdom of a price hike when already established games to it for less . I'm not saying I would personally rather play WoW but it will be factor in some peoples choice of game .
It may be average to play 100 hours a month but is it average these days to play one game for that amount of time . Lots of people play 2 or more mmos . The days of when people spent all their time in one are long gone . When you are spending money over 2-3 mmos and perhaps paying money for other online services you enjoy it all mounts up .
Maybe you end up getting to a point where you think is it really worth me paying for so many services ( games being one of them ) that you think of dropping one or two . Suddenly you look at your game expenditure and ask yourself am I enjoying Archeage more than other games that don't cost me as much .
The point it you look at the most costly thing first and work down . Its not about comparing it to popcorn or a pint of beer etc its about perception of the individual if something is worth more .
Give it a month for free first and then decide what to do, then you are sure how much you like the game. The difference in price is not really that huge, 2 more or less bucks a month is not really worth not playing the game you enjoy most anyways.
If you would like several exactly as much price do matter but that is rather unlikely after all.
I know Euros are getting the shaft in some ways but it depends on what they are being charged for the 18500 Credit bundle (100 bux in US). That makes the 2400 crdits for a monthly sub 12.97.
But in reality its free because APEX are ridiculously cheap (fluctuating between 20 and 35 G on the AH) so even in the infancy of the game that kind fof gold is a joke to obtain. Maybe 30 minutes, less with a trade cart.
