PvE in ArcheAge

MultibyteMultibyte Member UncommonPosts: 130

Hi,

Is ArcheAge basically first and foremost a PvP game or is there any room for PvE players ? For instance, any PvE servers ?

I don't really care much about PvP. What I care is things like exploration, immersion, watching a vista in awe, crafting if done well etc.

Should I try AA or is it a waste of time for a PvE player who can't care less about PvP ?

Also, is it a seamless open world ?

Thanks for any input.

Archeage is, at its core  a PvP game. There are no PvE servers. However, everything else you listed, in my opinion is very well done in Archeage.

I don't think it would hurt for you to try it out since it's F2P, just gotta get through the Q.

And it has an open seamless world, the dungeons and such are instanced though.

I would wait until the game stabilizes,  then play.   If you enjoy PvE, there is no real rush for you to start.  The game is solo-centric you only need to group to complete certain things.

Yes you can PvE, I did enjoy that aspect of the game.  The crafting is deeper that a lot of what has come up lately,  there are alternatives to the grind.

The PvE in my opinion is pretty bad probably the worst I have experienced in a good long while.

When do people say "PVE", they include the gathering/craft or are talking only about the no-pvp combat?

If you include the gathering/farming/crafting aspect as "PVE", then ArcheAge offers lot of PVE (mainly if you has patron status because the labor points amount), the best  currently available in my opinion.

But if you talk only about "fight with npcs" when you talk about "PVE", then Archeage have it in low amount (only the epic open world boses are "good pve" in my opinion) and surely it isn't a game for you if all you want is this kind of gameplay.

To a sandboxer/pvper/asian minded mmo player like me, PVE is nothing more than a "prepararation" to PVP and horizontal progression, only a "barrier" to achieve certain things needed to be stronger, have more itens, allowing you to be more competitive in the PVP/political/social theater of the game. PVE is far from being the main source or focus of enjoyment.

I personally have never seen anyone lump in crafting and the like when talking about PvE. Of course when it comes to AA I am sure it will be to try and cover for a 3rd of the game that is terrible.

With crafting you can level as it gives decent xp.  There are guides out on how to level your character using crafting, just like you can in GW2.  From what I've read when others have asked the question about pve only, some suggested questing to 30 then crafting the rest of the way.  At around 30 pve questing takes you into pvp areas so unless you have some friends or a guild to quest with you will be ganked a lot.

I do mostly pve and so far find the game addictive but taking my time exploring I'm not near level 30.

PvE in AA is the same generic PvE you see in any other korean mmo. You can do all you mentioned (exploration, etc) but you will take the risk of being ganked because Open World PvP is a big part of the game. I try to stqay away from PvP myself but the ganking will be inevitable when i get to higher level zones. Also Pirates lurking the waters for fresh meat..... more pvp.

After playing several months in Alpha and Beta, I would sum up the PvE like this:  There is a TON of PvE to be had in the game, but not in the conventional sense.

Yes, the game has PvP woven into much of the content, but it's quite easy to avoid and there is a ton to do which doesn't involve PvP.   I avoided PvP on one character for a month and only was "ganked" twice, and then only when I was pushing my luck a bit.

The game has a huge emphasis on the farming -->  house building ---> crafting ecosystem as well as the game of running trade routes for profit.  Trade routes are basically running packs of goods between one province and another.  You can do this via safe routes, which involved no pvp, and earn gold, or take your chances in pirate and enemy infested waters to earn "Gilda Stars" which is the in-game currency for buying a lot of things.

Running trade on the open ocean does involve risk of running into PvP, but even if you're not into PvP you can just think of the potential enemies you run into as AI controlled in some sense. Yes they are out to get you and steal your pack, but whatever, it's just a risk and you do your best to avoid them (as you're gimped when wearing a trade pack anyway).

Other than that, there are a set number of provinces on each continent which alternate between Peace and War times.  At war, you're vulnerable to enemy (and friendly faction asshole) attacks.  In peace time, you're safe to trade and quest.  So, really it's easy to avoid PvP in these locations as well if you want to.

The standard fare of PvE ? and ! questing is pretty poorly done, but not terrible.  Just average stuff.  It's the sandbox elements which make this game immersive and fun -- owning a house, owning farms, sailing your own ships, going on trade runs, exploring, all give you a ton of PvE to do without getting into PvP.

I understand sometimes is not what ppl is talking when mentioned pve, but pve means Player versus envoriment, so its correct include gathering and all others non-combat activity in PvE definition. Some replies were correct asking to op what pve he was asking and then give personal opinions about it, just like you can do the same thing saying its the worse ever even without explain why.

For exemple, the queues is PvP, we are playing against other players. image

It can be a PVE game, if you focus on some of those things you like and don't venture into the contested zones. I personally know a few players (patrons) who are around level 40 and have never ventured past Two Crowns. They joined a guild that does farm sharing.

While the main push is indeed for PVP and guilds, there is a pretty standard fare of PVE content. You can quest up to level 50 (and despite much of the hate, some of them are actually interesting and/or fun, if you care to read the text) and there are the obligatory dungeons ever 10 levels or so. They are also pretty interesting, and going in blind we had plenty of wipes. You can also grab a plot of land (good luck!) and craft on it, public farms, and guild lands if they are open to that kind of thing. The best gear in game is made by crafting and is tradeable, but will take a long, long time to get, or will be incredibly expensive.

Its free to try and there are finally (almost) enough servers, so give it a go during non-peak hours and see how it feels.

Edit: forgot to mention, past (IIRC) level 30 the questing zones become cross-continent and open pvp. But there IS a way to avoid this. The zones go in cycles. "Tension" steadily mounts (that's when it is open-pvp) between the two continents until there is a war, which is when people will come to try to basically raid eachothers bases to get PVP currency. Afterwards, there is a time of peace which lasts something like 2 hours. During this time there is NO PVP. Good luck and have fun
