Looking for a MMORPG with little or no instancing.

Seems like instances are becoming the norm and personally I find it boring. I need a persistent world with all the good and bad things that brings. I wanna feel like I'm part of the world I'm spending so much time in, you know?

The last good one I played was Final Fantasy 11. It has plenty of faults but I still look back fondly on those zones I spent so much time in. People were everywhere and even when you were playing solo you never truly felt alone. After I quit I heard they added a lot more instancing though, which is a shame but inevitable I guess.

So I'm looking for very little instancing but I'd also like a few other things if possible-

1. No subscription. I can deal with a subscription if the game is awesome but I haven't seen any sub games that caught my attention recently so I doubt it'll happen.

2. A moderate amount of players. I don't need WoW numbers I just don't want to join a game with ghost towns or everyone grinding end game.

3. Open world. What's the point of a persistent world if you can't explore it at all?

4. Building. I know this is a stretch but it would really make me happy so I figured it's worth a shot.

5. Interesting leveling/skill trees/ect. I don't do boring hack and slash.

6. No anime. Really.

Thanks for any help.

    1. Albion Online

    2. Archeage or QueueAge

That's all i can think of, I'm sure there's more out there!

Both of those look good but I guess I'll have to wait on Archeage so I'm not stuck in impossible lines. Anymore?

It's been a really long time since I played, but I don't remember either Lineage 2 having much if any instancing.

Darkfall has a subscription but if you manage to get a buddy key you can make enough gold for the sub in just a few hours of farming.

    2. A moderate amount of players. I don't need WoW numbers I just don't want to join a game with ghost towns or everyone grinding end game.

The population in Darkfall is fairly low and one of the few drawbacks of the game.

Darkfall is a completely open world with the exception of a few dungeons that other people can also enter and kill you in.

    4. Building. I know this is a stretch but it would really make me happy so I figured it's worth a shot.

There are player crafted cities/boats in this game. ( Some of the boats are absolutely massive ).

    5. Interesting leveling/skill trees/ect. I don't do boring hack and slash.

There are no levels in Darkfall. It's a prowess system where you put your points into different attributes(strength, dexterity, int, wisdom) those attributes affect how hard some of your skills hit for. You can only have 9 skills on your bar at any one time (8 normal 1 ultimate) but you can mix the skills from any class ( healer with some archer abilities, warrior with some mage abilites etc..

    6. No anime. Really.

Yea it's not anime at all.

    Thanks for any help.

Gonna recommend Darkfall because it's my favorite MMO right now. If you don't like hardcore full loot PvP it's not for you then.
