I've always bought the WoW expansions even though I think they are overpriced given that we pay a decent sub every month and they rake in money from the shop etc.
I'm less excited about this one, probably because I'm 10 years older from the game releasing, probably because there's no new races, professions or classes to play - we are all effectively being encouraged to start at level 90 and put the rest of the game into the bin.
But aside from garrisons, which may or may not do it for me (there's a distinct silence coming from beta players), I don't think Blizzard seem to be an interested in providing a top game any longer and it's more a case of seeing how much they can get from the customer before the whole franchise dies a death. (Expect a big drop in numbers on this release compared to others).
There has been such a distinct lack of content on WoW that most people I know (including me) don't even sub any more and will re-sub for the xpac. Lost revenue to Blizzard because they got lazy.
I'm actually having a lot of fun in other games and come the day, there is still a chance I won't buy WoD (probably will) if it sounds just run-of-the-mill. It's a shame that only my propensity to buy the WoW expacs is the thing that's probably see me buy this one and not because of something remarkable Blizzard are going to do this time around.

Making a thread about how he's going to buy a WoW expansion possibly for the last time? Yeah, my response showed how much I cared....just want my response numbers up anyway.
Actually that sums up my excitement as well.. a more elaborate response for this thread is overkill, to be honest.
i will wait for the same post 2 years later when the next expansion after WoD comes out.
You said you have bought all expansions before this one and you talk like someone is forcing you to play or like the game longer. If you dont feel like you enjoy WoW anymore and feel the Xpacks are overpriced and you dont know if you will like anything other than garrisons.... then why buy it?
Whether you play or not, Blizzard will have your money. They must be doing something good that you want to keep buying expansions and apparently have no plans to play for X reasons.

Though I mainly stick to playing Vanilla servers nowadays, I'm always open to the possibility to coming back to retail WoW. But with WoD, I'm seeing nothing to get excited about. I have to agree, Blizz is looking lazy. I think they need a massive overhaul to their dev team, because they are completely out of original ideas.

Over the years I've both loved and hated WoW and now I'm at a point where I've accepted the game for what it is, which is a very casual game with some of my favorite lore.
You are right about them trying to cash in as much as possible before the end and I think there's one more expansion after this which will most likely be everyone(including the Iron Horde) against Sargeras(sp?).
OP, i do agree with your view on the game right now and i have to also give credit to the other poster that said " Why not wait a bit after release to see how it plays out before buying ". The reason is if you buy now or at release and it is not good then the only thing you did is give them more money and make them realize they can get away with it again.
What i personally will do this time around is wait at least 3 to 4 months before buying the new xpac. The reason that makes me take this decision is that i am testing the beta and i really don't like there views on the game anymore. It is true they are taking away lot's of spells and skills and changing them into passive talents or skills. Did you know also you don't get any new spells while leveling this xpac? You only get the current one but with a bonus on it. eg : improved frostbolt or improved scorch, improved frost nova, etc.etc. until you reach level 100 and that is about every 2 levels and only 1 or 2 spells at a time .
The garrison do have nice things like your own gryphon master, your own blacksmith, leatherworker trainer, etc. But no new class, races, etc to try out or to level up. Also you will get more stuff to buy in there shop, a free 90 boost to spend on a new toon or existing toon that is not yet 90, but no new bg or arenas. I forgot to say you will get a full island just to pvp and lots of maps to play in but again no flying in them not even at level100. *****And don't delete that shinny new 90 or the gear else you just lost your new 90 even if deleted right after creation, so don't mess up your toon once you click create it is done : extra character boost cost 60$ .******
So basically i would be buying new maps with a way of questing that will unlocks parts of my garrison as i do them until i complete it + i get to level up to 100, just like doing the farms in MOP. Yes thats right it comes down to the same thing. And hours of questing and world pvp + new dungeons and ways to access raids. But that is about it.
Do yourself a favor and wait till a few months after release before buying this time around to see how many people will stay or leave and also you will have time to view some youtube game play and reviews to see if yes or no it is for you and spare yourself 50$ + some subs time if you really don't like it.
WoD is shaping up to be one of the better xpacks in my opinion.
I really like the incentive to explore the zones now, you can find allot of treasures if you look in every nook.
i didn't dabble to much into the Garrisons but from the little i saw i really like them, especially since they will impact your gaming experience, you can use tanks and bodyguards in the game world and even nukes.
Content wise this is definitely the biggest expansion to date.
Ends with Illidan? um No.
Killing Arthas maybe. But not really considering the Burning Legion are the next killable big baddies from WC3.
This is a good post, and definitely advice I am going to follow. I do eventually plan on getting WoD, but it is coming out at the same time roughly as an expac for another game I would rather try out first.
If you are not sure about the expac, definitely wait and see what others think of it, whether it releases with all of the features you are hoping for, and whether you think you will like it. It is not worth throwing money at if it just lies on your hard disc unplayed.

Why are they dumbing down the game so much are they really seeing their player base as so incompetent that they cannot even make a few decisions about spells and skills. The three-branched tree thing that created so many hybrids and interesting combinations have all vanished. This most of all saddens me and makes me think they really do not understand their player base. They have just lumped everyone into this nameless,faceless stereotype and have taken away any ounce of creativity or attempt at individuality any player can hope for.
Even if their dungeons are interesting the fact that you do not get to test out new builds or try out any ideas you might have stagnates the progression into a monochromed experience. A once great ,vibrant,evolving game reduced to this bland, tasteless ,generic grind. Truly so disappointed as a Vanila player myself to see this come to pass.
I am on PTR and the new model updates are good enough reason for me to play again. I just can't get over the new models and their fluidity and animations. it makes such a huge impact on gameplay. One has to play it to believe it. i wasn't sure but now i ordered WOD.
Can't wait for release.
We're getting less new features in this xpac, then any other xpac released, and it costs more
I bought MoP a few months ago, reactivated my account, levelled a couple of chars to cap, uninstalled and cancelled sub again.
I doubt I'll even bother to do that with WoD. WoW is just so different from vanilla, which I thought was great, that it bears no resemblance to the game I so enjoyed at one time.
I'm afraid that I consider the approaching expansion with such a level of dejected apathy that I .... ah fuck it. Can't be bothered.

That's not the feedback emerging out of the beta, the 'housing' turns out to be some half arsed attempt hampered by their game engine. Generally speaking people love housing because of the customisation options, not its ability to buff you lol. The rest is their usual amateur flailing about with balancing. That's it pretty much.

Here is the problem with WoW, it's WoW! It's the same game that we all played for many of years and every x-pack that has released since WoTLK we have seen a decrease in subs, this one will be no different. We will see a few month spike in subs then a slow and steady decline until/if they announce the next x-pack. So while WoW may have 7 million subs right now I would expect that number to go up to probably close to 8 million then fall back to less than 6 million, if previous trends are any indication.
With all that said, 5 million + subscribers for a game that will be 11 + years old is still pretty amazing. The thing with WoW for me is when I get the itch to log in, I resub then play for a day or two and the game just feels all too familiar and stale, but that is just me.
Blizzard and amateurs? wow..the crazy things people say on this forum. You should have just stopped at the 'usual' how this expansion' is going to suck.
