Surely a new server would alleviate some of this pain.
Anyone know how many is limited in a server.
I was gonna sub to patron but what's the point when you spend all day in queue.
I would have thought better business sense to keep people in game rather than them going off doing something else.

IF you are f2p, you will have to wait a long time in a queue.
It depends on what server you are playing. DON'T pick one of the founder servers - dahuta, kyprosa, shatigon, eanna. THose servers are full of patrons/founders so you will wait for hour even if you are a patron.
I moved to Aier. On Aier F2P have queues of 2-3k. Patrons have absolutely no queue. You are literally in in like 15 sec

I had picked up that patrons would get priority however reading the forums I got the impression it wasn't working.
Any views or comments on this. Is it working for you?
Adding more servers has, historically, been a short-term band-aid with negative long-term effects. Was it Trion or ArenaNet that came up with the temp server idea?
I forget which MMO it was where if the main servers were full you could play on a temp server and get a message when there's a chance to hop to your regular server. The temp servers alleviated a good portion of the queue problem without creating the thinned population problem further down the road.
I'm surprised more MMOs don't do something like that.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

My opinion:
Many accounts that are F2P were accidentally flagged as Patron at the start. Mine was one. It said I was Patron when I logged in but I had not paid. However I noticed that I was not getting the LP bonus of a Patron. I figured I had the Patron notice on the character screen but they had "correctly" not flagged me Patron as in game.
Now here is the problem. Many people assumed that since they had the Patron notice it may have been a mistake but they expected to still have full benefits. Soooo they started spaming the forums claiming Patron but not getting benefits and saying that Patron was broken. (We even had someone here doing that)
I paid for Patron the second day after launch and I am seeing reduced queues. When I was F2P on day one I had a 2,900 person queue. Since I went Patron on a low pop server 16 was my biggest queue size.
For me Patron worked. However we did a poll yesterday and it looks like it is not helping all players. Especially if you are on the EU servers.
Good point about the open world player owned structures being a bit of a problem there. I like that Aion solution. It allows players to play and progress while waiting for their main server.

Im on Aier as well, being patron. Largest queue I have seen have been 17 people. Still land available, but it is starting to get less and less everyday.
I can't talk about the situation on the NA servers but I have a pretty good idea of the issues we have on the EU servers.
If you are playing as a patron on one of the launch servers or the server that got added 1 day before launch, you will have almost no queues as a patron. The reason for this is that there are a lot of f2p people on these servers.
There are four headstart servers where every single founder rolled on - Kyprosa, Dahuta, Eanna and Shatigon. On these four servers almost 90%+ of the population is patrons. Most f2p people didn't roll on these servers because they was no land available and the queues were astronomical. On my server - Kyprosa- I have a queue of 3k (11 hours or more) of wait time as a founder and my patron is defeinitely workng. I did an experiment where I queued myself as a patron and as a f2p. THere was literally no difference. And no patrons do get priority queueing but everyone on Kyprosa seems to be a patron/founder.
So there you go.

Not necessarily. Even if your sub expires after the 30 days, you can still play the game. Usually the 30 day period is problematic for p2p mmos. In f2p MMOs you just quit when you feel like it.
Also considering how many people spent $150 on the game, they will have the urge to keep playing to justify spending so much.

All I can assume is that Trion expects most of the players to stop playing soon. It's pretty common for an MMO to lose 70% of its players after the first 30 days, only a few MMOs have managed to grow or avoid such losses (WoW, FFXIV ARR...).
As for server capacity, usually you have a con-current user capacity and an account capacity (as not everyone plays all the time).
The largest capacities I know of on a non-megaserver MMO, was DAoC, which could handle 5,200 ccu, with an account capacity around 20,000.
In ArcheAge I expect it is fairly similar, but it is made worse by people AFKing online. Either way, there is no way that the game could support 35,000 players on the server at the same time. Even if the hardware could handle it, the game world simply isn't big enough to handle that many players.
Trion has screwed up, but in two to three weeks I think it will be a very different picture, a lot of the free players will leave, because the game is rubbish without Patron.
This (above).
Also, just don't think of this game as F2P. Think of it as Free-to-try, as it REALLY is a subscription game in almost every way. They allow you to roll a character and level it all the way up, but lots of the game is gated off to you when you can't own land, in my opinion (as well as having a small labor pool).
Great game as a subscriber though, it's one of the most interesting MMOs on the market now.
I don't think the 119 people using XFire with Archeage is a good indication of the few hundred thousand trying to play the game.
That comment usually sets off a mega-thread in every forum of every MMO launched since the beginning of time, lol
I'll not start the ball rolling...
I am a Patron, and Eanna had a queue of 1053 at 12:30pm CEST today. It's now 2:00pm CEST and there's still 255 ahead of me in the queue.
I'd hate to see the numbers for the full queue (with F2P included).
Robokapp has made quite a few posts about Archeage where he shows how much he dislikes the game. Not sure why he is still posting so much about a game which he clearly doesn't like.
But yeah your comment totally shut him down

I'm finally in !
After an 2 hour 40 minutes in the Patron queue, I finally got let in on the Eanna server. It's only 2:50pm CEST on a weekday, so I pity the poor sob's who join the queue after work today...
