How has it advanced toward anything advertised on the back of the box or in the game manual?
What people like this mean by "advanced" is that it is now a Ganker's game where a level 1 can get insta-killed by a level 250 if he wanders into the wrong area.
By advanced he means they've ignored any content they advertised the game with originally by adding Roots PvP, then new PvP lands, then forced PvP on all lands that didn't have PvP yet.
If you remove all the PvP they've added, you'd have a short bug fix list of what has changed since Patch 1 ruined the game and chased all its customers away.

Have you even played the game at all recently?
I have not seen any "ganker's paradise". I have never ever been PK'ed except in Episode 2 in the temporary old lands PvP zones, which were designed for faction PvP, and in Outpost battles, IF you sign up to take part in the battle.
The PR dispite being PvP zones (some of them, not all) are rarely used as such if at all and the only other thing is Flagged Faction PvP which is purely consentual and atm has no advantages to doing, except for a bit of fun.

I have, and while it's not as sire as Svay represents it is bad. Episode 2 was simply the worst so far and with spires and zone control coming it is only going to get worse. The major newly added elements are inexorably tied with PvP, forcing people's hands and the community aspect of the game is, unsurprisingly, degenerating.
You, youreself, Kibs - were resposible for some abhorrent nastiness during Episode 2.
Your 'fun' often impacts on other people's, negatively, something PvPers don't seem to be able to wrap their heads around for some reason.
It's lovely this board is becomming the place for bitter ex-players and disillusioned current ones to come vent their crap.
You are just sad. Jyudas i have never met anyone as arrogant as you, life must be a bitch when u expect the rest of the world to agree with everything you think and they dont. how do you cope? Why dont you people go and annoy another community rather than hanging around in one you hate so much and let the rest of us enjoy our game? grr
As Kibs was trying to say the game has improved loads since release. The factions getting a role at last is really interesting and fun, there is plenty going on whether you want to PvP or not. Try not to listen to the trolls here but d/l the trial and give it a go.

Someone has to counter Kibs' relentless and unrealistic optimism.
I still like the game overall, it remains better than the other options out there but the recent direction it has taken is damaging the things that really set it apart and made it stand out.
I fail to see the 'arrogance' in wanting there to be a place for everyone and the opportunity for people to get the most from a game without being 'molested' in their pursuit of fun. The only arrogance I see is in those who insist that only their way is right and use the changes in the game to pursue that end. THAT is arrogance 'My fun is the one true way of fun and if it comes at the expense of yours, tough.' That, is arrogance.
This is the problem with the direction the game has taken. You seem pro the factionalised war and PvP and you complain that I, and others like me, are 'Not letting you enjoy your game'. What makes your enjoyment pre-eminent over everybody elses? There's the arrogance you're looking for, and the selfishness, and the cause of the once-fantastic community slowly slipping down the tubes.
The factions getting a role - an undirected and poorly implemented one - through the PvP is moving things away from the RP haven of a largely cooperative community and leading to more OOC aggravation, abuse, cheating and idiocy. Oddly enough, exactly as I predicted. While it is nice to be right, I wish I hadn't been.
There does seem to be more going on in terms of other events again, probably to try and restore some sort of balance but I suspect this will end up being twisted around and exploited as an opportunity by the power hungry soon enough.
No trolling here, just informing.
I'm deleriously happy that you (and Kibs) still unreservedly enjoy the game, but you need to open your eyes to the fact that other people do not necessarily feel the same way but also pay their fees and are still waiting on the game that was promised and the restoration of everything that made it so wonderful before.
I want everyone to have a good time, you want one group's fun to come at the expense of anothers.
Originally posted by Kibs The PR dispite being PvP zones (some of them, not all) are rarely used as such if at all and the only other thing is Flagged Faction PvP which is purely consentual and atm has no advantages to doing, except for a bit of fun.
Actually this does happen a fair amount. I know people who specifically go into the PR PVP zones looking for specific people to kill.
So as long as you don't piss people off and happen to not run into someone who jsut PKs for fun, you're fine there. I've never been PKed in the PR, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
Alot of things have changed. Alot of the recent content has been based around PvP. Yes there are ways to get away from it. But a fair amount of the recent 'content' is based around pvp and can be off putting to someone not interested in it.

Euhrm, it seems that this is exactly what you are doing. You want all pvp banned from Ryzom, isn't that "your right way", isnt that "you're true way of fun"...

Nope. there's a place for PvP but it needs to be consensual and equal time and effort needs to go into other aspects of the game. 'Content' and advantage should not be purely linked to PvP participation.
Something for everyone, non combatative/competetive options.
IMO Ryzom would do better concentrating on its previous strengths rather than diluting them or countering them with all this PvP content but I wouldn't advocate getting shot of it entirely.
It might be worth a post from someone who both enjoyed the old lands faction PvP of Episode 2 and who has some considerable sympathy for Grimachu's position.
I enjoyed Episode 2 precisely because the PvP was morally ambiguous. I started out reluctant to fight: determined to only heal, run away or stay my side of the pitch but bit by bit found the war and killing others unavoidable. And I remember towards the end saying to myself "omg did I really shoot Rashan in the back when it really was not necessary?". It was an interesting journey of one character's slow brutalisation in the face of war.
My point being that because a number of players objected to the forced PvP set-up of the episode, I found that I had been gifted a sophisticated game of PvP rather than a simple nuke-fest; a game where I had to consider the consequences of my actions on other players which to my mind fitted well with the saga of Atys's descent into war.
So to Grimachu and all the other reluctant participants: I actually owe a debt of thanks because without their protests it would not have been half the game it actaually was
I'm glad you got more from it, but the arguments are mostly OOC now, even more than then, and it remains wrong that one set of players should get all the shinies and be able to impose their vision over that of another set.
Very true but sadly it does not look like players can really influence that.
The players can and should however at least avoid a war of play-styles and avid PvP'ers may actually get something out of listening to non- PvP'ers: hence my little story

Kk, I see what you mean now. And I guess you're right. Let's hope for you that Nevrax goes back to developing the rites once spires/RR are there And maybe if Nevrax can give us more invasions on a regular base, also the not pvpers will be happy again too (Cause I guess its something like that you would like to see no? An invasion like a in january last year? Hopefully saterdays invasion will be the start of something similar )
The only real, meaningful additions we're getting are all inexorably PvP linked (outposts and spires). R2 - while it has the opportunity to become something in the main world - is mostly 'seperate worlds' from the main world and thus has little impact upon it.
The non-PvPers need something in game and meaningful to play with as well.

I think every community needs its energetic optimist, the person who dispenses huggles to new players and such...Kibs's posts in the Newcomer Welcome Board are like rays of sunshine...and that can't be a bad thing.
Anyway, while I hate to say this to a fellow roleplayer and one who I often agreed with in the past on the forums (before you became so cynical and pessimistic), it's a bit low to slather tripe on this forum because you can't do it on Ryzom's own forum anymore...

Ryzom was launched in September 2004, it has advanced a long way since then. I've been playing since open beta 1 which was April 2004
