bjornieusbjornieus Member Posts: 34

Hello, i was wondering what is the difference between the two games? They both have huge landscapes/ awsome graphics and sound. Their theme is about the same aswell so im not sure really whats different? Oh and in Hero's Journey can you mount a creature and fight on it aswell like in EQ2? thanks for all the information...

Yeah that video was circulated several months ago but it's still entertaining. You can see all of those screenshots plus a ton of new ones in the screenshots section here on MMORPG or over at HJ Official Site

The video part of that movie was taken from a video made by a german press person during last years E3, you can get the full video at 2003 E3 Video, be warned though it's 70 MB

Man i tryed to open it... automatically went to winzip (very stupid thing btw) it says "The file is already in use. Close other programs that might be using the file, or stop playing the file, and then try again." Anyother way to view it? And one more thing how come i have to log into this site everytime i press a link?

Not sure what the problem is but I just downloaded the file, opened it in my unzip program and extracted it to my hard drive. From there I opened it using my media player.

As for the site issue, it sounds like your not accepting cookies. You need to turn on accepting cookies and then make sure that the Remember Me or whatever it's called box is checked when you log in. I'm not sure how to enable cookies on IE but in FireFox 1.5 go to Tools->Options then select the Privacy button and on the Cookies tab make sure Allow Sites to Set Cookies checkbox is checked.

Someone asked this question on the playnet forums(might have been you). This was my responce.

I can't give you all the answers cause to be honest I don't have an awful lot of them. 1.One big difference you'll find is the devs and GM's here are head and shoulders far above SOE's team. 2.RP elements here will also far surpass anything SOE has ever done. 3.GM run activities done by SIMU are amazing so I'm told. 4.You will find new content added much more frequently here and not just every month or just with expansions or adventure packs. 5.Customer support here will blow SOE out of the water.

I know it sounds like don't like EQ2 and SOE. Actually I really enjoyed EQ2 though there seemed like there were some things missing that I think I will find in HJ. There just isn't really a comparison between the two for me. They are night and day. I think Simu is superior to SOE in every way.

    Humility before Honor.

If you're just looking at screenshots a lot of the newer games are going to look a lot alike but they're going to be completely different. About the only thing HJ has in common with EQ2 for example is the fact that they're both "fantasy" settings. The games are going to "feel" completely different when you play them because the design philosphy behind them is different.

To get an idea of how they're going to be different you'll really need to go and read the sites linked earlier, especially any developer interviews.

I won't comment on Vanguard because as a long time EQ1 player that lived through The Vision (tm) I've refused to even look at another game made by that team.

YOU want to know the biggest difference between HJ and EverQuest II, Everquest II is a real game that you can play, HJ is a pipe dream that will never happen!!!!!  Comon get in gear and finish this game or atleast let people start testing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm an Ever "crack" um..Everquester from way back and I've played the new one as well. In all honesty when I first started working on HJ, because I got into the game or read any of the lore, I thought the same thing.

Once I got in, the first thing that blew me away was the graphics.  You'll see what I mean when you get to play.  The game is just gorgeous. That alone sets it apart from Everquest on so many levels.  Everquest is beautiful but WOW HJ is...just..amazing.  But I am slightly biased. :)

    Add Cinnamon and stir....

The biggest difference isn't the look or even the unique game play or world. The biggest difference is the "army of GM's" that we have. Not just because we'll be able to continue to evolve the world quickly and provide a level of interaction that most games lack. No, mainly because of the diversity of the group.

I would say that at least a quarter of our team is female, we have team members from Europe and a large contingent have passed or will soon pass their 30th birthday. About the only commonality is that we're all gamers. If you were to name a PC game from the last 5 years odds are someone on the team has played it - if you name an MMO I can all but guarantee someone has at least tried it - and I know several of us have our own weekly pen & paper/tabletop game groups.

Wow, Rupard. You're right! It's not even due to come out until some time in the summer! Why isn't it completely done yet?! It's almost like it's only February or something. Slackers.

Well, you have to be at least eighteen to sign the NDA, but I would guess that most of our GMs are much older.  They may tell you that they're in their early twenties...but...I wouldn't believe them.  *shifty look*  I'm sure there is an eighteen year old thrown in the mix, though.

I'm a veteran of both Everquest for many years and EQ2 for a few years and can honestly say they aren't the end all and be all of the MMORPG world.  They are good in their own rite, but how can you compare them to a game that you haven't played yet?  From the screenshots alone I can see how very different HJ will be and am really looking forward to it.  There are many things about EQ2 that just weren't what SOE said they would be.  HJ sounds wonderful and looks great and since Simu is a completely different company I am greatly hoping that they will stick by all they have said and then some.  Can't wait to play it!! image

As a former GM(Ranger Guild) and still a current player of DR for 8+ years, I know several of the folks working on HJ and I have complete confidence in their ability to bring a game to us that will live up to the hype.

I have played just about every game out there and I have confidence that this will be the game that will finally give me the feel of a graphical DR. Just give the game a chance once it's out and I think you might find that with the GM's, events, storylines etc, alot of folks are going to find a new home with HJ.

It would appear to me what seperates this game from many others is interactivity and customization. Be it the spells, instanced missions or charecter generation. Its something I noticed was sorely missing from most Mmo's Ive played in the last 9 years. Most missions i play in WoW basically leave you to one task to finish. One real path to win. From what it sounds like, Hj will allow you finish most instances thru many paths, and the end of the mission varies as well. More like older non-mmo games like Sir Techs Arkania series. Daily routine is what Im intrested in, ill ask that in a seperate thread tho.
