One thing I would have to say that I noticed is people getting power-levelled by those higher than them. I typically see they are guild mates, which would make sense. But the fact is that power-levelling is really an unfair practice. These players don't even have to play the game. They jsut stand there while someone else fights and they get max exp. Either the max exp should be lowered or there should be some limitations to who you can group with. What is the point even playing the game when people just power-level their other characters abd guild-mates. We may as well all start out at level 50 so we can just get to the RvR without apparently wasting time with the actual gameplay. It's very disappointing.
Comments
Some people just want to get to the RVR, especially if they already have characters that are level 50. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to do the same quests and mob grind that I did with my other character.

I always ask for pls but after level 24 i don't ask anymore i just want to get to Thid as fast as i can
anyone on gareth wanna pl my Hero (Hib) hehe he's level 12
Why disappointing? Why does it impact *your* gameplay choices? Do what *you* like doing to have fun. I can't see why what other people do bothers you, as long as it isn't against fair play rules. Chances are as well you will be better at playing your class than someone who has been PLed. Find people, or a guild, that share *your* outlook. That fit with your style. They do exist. Some guilds never RvR, some are totally RvR-centric. Some raid, some don't. Some do TDs, some like to explore the other content. DAoC doesn't force you into one avenue.
This is an answer to your post about TDs as well. There are lots of people who dislike them, so don't choose that way to level. I never do TDs. Neither does the majority of my guild. It doesn't bother me that others do. I never ask to be PLed. I never have. It doesn't bother me that others get PLed as long as they are not bugging me to do it. There is more than enough content in DAoC for you to do whatever you find enjoyable and chances are there will be many folks who think the same way. It's just a matter of hooking up with folks with the same outlook, and having *fun*.
This is a *game*, not the corporate ladder where someone can unfairly steal your promotion by sleeping with the boss. So what if somebody gets PLed all the way to fifty just to get spanked in RvR because they don't know their character and how it fits with the other classes? So what if they decide to miss all the rich content on the way? It's their loss I'd say, not yours. More fool them. Play it like *you* want to. If at the end it still bugs you find a MMORPG where PLing doesn't happen, or where some folks don't take short-cuts in a race to some perceived 'uberness'. When you find it, do me a favour please, drop back and tell me its name because I'd like to start playing it too and I haven't found it anywhere as yet.

I will agree with you in, I don't understand it. I will also point out I can level faster solo. The only thing I can't do is play 24/ 7 so I suppose to have a guildy group me out while I am off line and then play for exper my allocated daily hrs. That would make sense.
Anyone who thinks getting group out is faster though hasn't hunted right. Solo, without shared is faster exper. Bottom line, I don't care what other people do. Power level and you have a weapon you can't use. I know my Druid inside out. 50 levels of solo make her 'My' toon. Not a group utility.
They have really made all leveling in this game much easier. So many people complained that it took to long to get to 50. So what did they do, they added /level, 1 free level a week*, and task dungeons.
PL'ing aside, it's so easy to get to 50, which is only 1/2 the game now anyway to be competitive in RvR.
This game needs as a many people playing it as possible, and to make leveling more restrictive at this point, well, would have no point.
Gotta say dont agree with the OP really. I can understand not like power leveling, and avoiding it. The thing is its not really like its a quick and speedy process. 'power leveling' in DAOC is sorta nerfed without taking away the ability to be where you shouldnt be. When another higher level kills something thats orange to them you only get as much XP as if you had killed an orange to you. Or something close to that, from what i understand. So there has been a limit on how much XP you can get per creature per level or something to that effect.. Theres also an inactivity feature, i went afk for several hours and was in a group, but not in same area and group was lvling. long story short when i came back there was a small little paragraph saying that because i was inactive, that things were reversed (gold, xp, etc etc). so u cant just go afk and have a guildie level you, you gotta at least be there or come back every so often and move or talk or something etc etc.
also, this should never be true imo. My buddy started about a week after me, so i was level 33 and hes lvl 2 or whatever when he was done the newbie tut. To have fun w/ my buddy if that was true he'd have to level and i'd have to do nothing until we were close enough, which would be terrilble. Grouping with whoever you want should always be an optionand finally. dont take this as a trolling attack, its just an opinion.
Yep. PL'ing is about cross level grouping. Not fast levels.
This got me to thinking though. If they want to add a new expansion, add a neutral zone. A land where any race can go and socialize if for no other reason than to create rivalry between realms. 20 level and below content only and allow for full grouping ability between realms. That whole destiny divided element.
In the end, it would amount to a central point for people to see the true volume of DAOC playerbase.Vets making new toons just to instigate, noobs getting a taste of full on DAOC.
thats a pretty good idea for Mythic to maybe consider. a neutral or military controlled (excuse for not attacking each other) area would be a great idea. because that would merge all the players in at least 1 or 2 areas. Think about it Mythic!
Been hearing nothing but bad from this game the last month :
- Buff bots
- ToA
- unbalanced classes
- People wanting to rush the game to get to RVR
Couldn't they focus on the actualy game more? Still think no offical forums is a bad thing.

Level 47 in 6 weeks...
Nope, no complaints here. Just throwing out Ideas.
Mythic did a good job.
If all you want to hear is bad then thats all you're gonna hear...
Buff Bots - Some like em, some don't. If you don't like them we give you an option to get away from them, play on a classic server. Or just play on a regular server and don't use one, I do it and manage just fine. I have a 2nd account I could easily buffbot on, actually I have more than one extra account. Not that big of a deal imo. Naturally you're entitled to your own opinion though, but the option is there to reduce their presence. No game out there is completely free of buff-bots though, unless they just don't have buffs.
ToA - Whats so bad about ToA after the changes? We're not done with changing ToA, so we'd love feedback on the topic, but based on the majority of feedback I'm receiving, most people out there seem to like ToA the way it is now... Maybe you have some insight that I'm missing from all the other feedback I'm getting...
Unbalanced Classes - Have you been following the recent patch notes for what is currently on the Test Server? Are we finished? No... Is it a start? According to feedback I've gotten, once again, it is a damn good start. So once again, if you have some more useful feedback on the subject than "Unbalanced Classes" please feel free to share it. Which classes do you have problems with? Who needs work? etc...
People Rushing - That exists in any game on the market. It is worse with a veteran game like DAoC granted, but any game on the market has an "end game" and that is where most people want to get as soon as they can.
What do you mean? What exactly are we focussing on in your opinion instead of the game? And how exactly do you think we should be focusing on the game?

Well id on't play so i can only comment on what i hear.
The only good thing i hear about the game is RVR.
I just feel the game sounds like it's structured like, forget about PVE just use it for grinding to get to RVR.
Might aswel give people who love RVR end level characters straight away and build the PVE side away from the PVP.
Or
Make the 2 different games, You should have 2 different level systems.
PVP - levels up on RVR action
PVE - levels up on a grind

I believe the neutral zone you're thinking of goes by the name of Gaheris.
I believe the neutral zone you're thinking of goes by the name of Gaheris.
So would this Gaheris be available to initiate level toons? It sounds like a good place to start for source code if not.

I hope that doesn't mean nerf...
'Balance' in my experience means someone is getting nerfed.
Actually Gaheris is a special ruleset server. It is Pv[E] only, all three realms work together. You can roam freely from one realm to the others, guilds can be composed of characters from all three realms etc.
No, not nerfs for the most part. We're currently concentrating on bringing the commonly believed underpowered classes up to par with the others rather than bringing classes down in power. There are a couple minor downgrades to some of the classes people tend to feel are well above the power curve, but for the most part we're boosting underpowered, not nerfing.

It's getting a little annoying when I hear people talk about how the game sucks and all the bad things they hear and they haven't even played it yet. Truely annoying. All I've heard from the OP (Britwulf) is nothing but complaint after complaint after complaint but I guarantee he doesn't have not 1 level 50 character. So he hasn't truely experienced the game in any way shape or form.
I have found DAOC to be the most fun in an MMORPG since the UO days. 95% of the classes are balanced, the PVE content is there if you actually try to go find it, and the PvP (RvR) is the best in ANY game that is out there right now. Just the way Mythic has RvR set up with sieges and keep defense, relics, keeps and towers you can capture, not to mention the huge battles that take place...it's just incredible.
There are so many classes/races to choose from that the options are endless. People are complaining because all they "hear" or "see" when they play for 10 minutes is nothing but TD grinds. I've said this once before and I'll say it one more time: 99% of the people that simply do the TD's have atleast 1-2 other level 50 characters. I have a level 50 reaver, a level 39 wizzy, and a level 20 scout now and I am having a blast. Sure now I only do the TD's, but thats because I have explored and done alot of the content with my level 50 reaver already. And once you participate in level 50 RvR, you are like OMG this is awesome.....hey I want to try another class and see how he does at level 50 in RvR.
So by being so excited about how great the RvR action is, you make another character and want to level him to 50 as fast as possible. So....you do the TD's or Cats ...whichever is faster for you to GET to 50 again. It makes perfect sense.
Now if there is a player that joins DAOC who has never played before and says "this game sucks..all the game is, is a TD grind", then thats their own stupidity for not even trying to do the HUNDREDS of quests out there and exploring the actual content...THAT THE REST OF US HAVE DONE.
Quit your damn whining, play the game and do the actual content and then come back and complain if you don't like it. Otherwise we really don't want to hear about how you "heard" or how you supposedly "played" the game and say how much it sucks and has no content. Play the game for more than 10 minutes and actually do the quests.
I'm really getting tired of reading this lame posts.

1. That is underselling the game bigtime, the worlds are huge with a lot of exploring to do, quests to do, dungeons to explore, there is a lot of PvE content and there is heaps of after 50 PvE content as well. The thing is that PvP (RvR) is so addictive that once you get into that it feels superior to the PvE game (well any game to be honest). RvR is so strong that it outshines the PvE content, however that doesn't mean the PvE content is poor and something you should rush through as fast as you can. There is huge fun and adventure to be had whilst leveling up and exploring all the worlds (old world, Shrouded Isles, Catacombs, Trials of Atlantis). For a PvE an example that I always found to be extremly cool, there is a beach area near Tir urp Host in hibernia old world, if you attack one of the mobs there the flee from you and run to their camp grabbing all their friends and then all come attack you (and your party). The road to 50 is a really cool one as long as you take your time to enjoy it.
2. The level system you propose is allready in place, you can level up through RvR all the way to 50 if you want (since killing players, capturing keeps etc all give lots of xp as well), do it purely on PvE, do it purely on quests or do it on a combination of all... It doesnt matter you can do it every way you want.
I think you mean PvE only.
Powerleveling is not hurting anyone nor does it provide some unfair advantage, since it is available to anyone. Removing it would simply upset the majority of the player base. It is not like those guild groups will all of a sudden group with you if they are not doing it now.
In a sense the OP is right in that those being powerleveled are not "playing" and yet they receive XP. But, why just single out powerlevelers? It is possible, and in fact does happen, where one or two characters are close in level range to the rest of the group, but they are not playing. They just sit there and get XP. I was helping a level 45 NS with my level 50 vamp get some XP. He did actually play, but honestly he was no help at all. I would have finished that TD in the same amount of time whether or not he was there.
Then, why not punish those who go /afk while the group pulls a mob? Why not gimp classes that can't do anything?
In order to be really fair, the game would have to measure "playing." That is impossible.
Yeah, sorry, meant PvE. :P

"There were much of the beautiful, much of the wanton, much of the bizarre, something of the terrible, and not a little of that which might have excited disgust."
Power-levelling does hurt people, and it is as bad as cheating. Here's why:
1. Only veteran players will be power-levelled because they know people in game. A new player doesn't typically have friends who are high level and able to spend time getting their character up.
2. It takes away from the available characters to group or hunt with in the game. When a majority of lower-level characters are just being power-levelled, it takes away from the game for new players. No one wants to group when they can just get max exp and power-level.
3. The max-exp is so high that people can go from 1-50 in a week in some cases by power-levelling. What is the point of even bothering to play the game. If they want the game to be about nothing more than RvR, then they should just have an option to create a level 50 when you start.
The game is so geared toward veteran players, it is a discouragement to any new arrivals, and will in the end drastically impact the future survivability of the game as many veteran players tire of the end game and move on to greener pastures. There is no in-flow of new blood on the field. It's really sad to see beacause the game has so much potential and a great number of things that are wonderful. But from a new player standpoint, it's not a game to move into. The game only benefits veterans and makes new players suffer.
Brith allthough I do see your concern, I trully think you are over reacting.
First of all there are 2 leveling fases:
1. Road to 50
2. post-50 leveling (master levels, champion levels, artifacts, templates)
There are 3 types of veterans:
1. Those that love PvE
2. Those that have a bot
3. Those who have multiple level 50-s
Veteran type 2 and 3 will never (or hardly ever) group new players, they just want another toon hit 50 in order to get them to leveling fase 2.
In leveling fase 1 you'll typically level with new players and type 1 veterans.
In leveling fase 2 you'll typically meet/help and level with all type veterans.
Say that leveling with higher level people is not possible, then what would happen;
-. veteran type 2 would simply solo with his bot (so in effect level up 2 or 3 toons up at the same time).
-. veteran type 3 would roll new toons in groups of allready established friends and level up together.
-. veteran type 1 would remain the same.
The thing you have to remember for yourself is that it isnt a race to whomever hits 50 first, allthough once you have established a group of friends it sure is a fun thing to keep each other motivated. It is a game and the quality of game play that you get out of it. Who has more fun the person leveling up the 'hard' way or the person who powerlevels his way up (and will have to repay that service sooner or later)? Another thing to remember is that powerleveling your toon teaches you nothing, quite the opposite, you are gimping yourself. A powerleveled player often struggels big time in RvR, because they have no clue what their class can and/or should do, and even if they know they often are clueless as how to do it. Whilst as a leveled player, you had tons more fun, know what and how you should play your class, had your runs in the various BGs, made heaps of friends and had way more fun for your dollar.
Bottomline, laugh at new players wanting and/or receiving pls, they'll often get stuck somewhere in the game and you'll see them leave in frustration or whining big time about how all other classes are overpowered etc. Be smart and enjoy your road to 50, powerleveling only hurts those people who are getting the powerlevels, except for maybe veteran type 3 but they the chance that they would be out grouping with you in the lower levels is more then slim anyway.
1. I was a new player and I leveled just fine. I made friends and ended up joining one of the top guilds on Gareth. I started from scratch not knowing anything at all. No one helped me, no one power-leveled me...I did it all on my own. I went from 1-24 and entered thid not having a clue how to RvR but I learned quickly and it was alot of fun, then went to Molvik at level 39 and the RvR started getting more intense, then leveled on and on until 50. Then it really became fun. I went and did alot of the quests an enjoyed the PvE content very much.
2. There were PLENTY of low-level players for me to group with. I don't really see your point. From levels 10-50 almost every group I joined or was invited to was an 8-man group and some were new players to the game, and some already had level 50 characters.
3. The point to play the game is to have fun and enjoy playing your characters to their full potential, to make new friends, figure out different kinds of specs and templates for your characters, go on raids, go on guild events, go into the BG's, play in high-end RvR. After 1 player makes 3-4 level 50's and wants to make new characters, he will either get powerleveled by a guild member or one of his necro's or something. There is absolutely and positively nothing wrong with it. They aren't affecting you nor anyone else in the game but yet you are still complaining about it which amazes me to no end.
There are still TONS of new players joining every day as well as veterans who make new characters and don't get power-leveled. Just last night I was playing my scout and I was with a group in Pryden Keep TD and they were ALL veterans except for 1 new player. We were about the same level and they just enjoyed playing and making new friends.
The game is NOT just geared for veteran players. See that's where you're wrong and you aren't understanding what some of us are trying to explain to you. If the game was just geared for veteran players, then you wouldn't have new players subscribing every day and having a blast. I haven't power-leveled one character yet. I have 1 level 50, 1 level 39, and 1 level 18 and I've been playing for about a month now. The game isn't hard and it's quite fun for me. Sure I don't do the newbie quests anymore and I go straight to the TD's or to the Catacomb dungeons and do kill tasks and/or higher level quests. I always am doing something different. When I get tired of doing quests, I'll go back to the TD's and group for a while. Just depends on my mood and my play style.
The problem you have is people getting power-leveled which you think is "cheating". Not sure how you came up with that but it's just a different play-style. Some people only want to RvR, some don't...but I can tell you that after making 3-4 level 50 characters, you kind of want to skip everything and go straight to 50 into RvR. They already know every aspect of the game from experience and want to try another character in RvR. How can you fault them for that? I would do the same thing as with ALOT of other players would too.
I would really love to know if you actually have a level 50 character yet? What is your current level? I want to see if you've even remotely STARTED to get into the game or if you're just taking a 10 minute screenshot of what you "think" the game mechanics are.
Are you ever going to grasp this concept? I hate repeating myself.
Go back and read my post dude. Ok, now I'll add to it. People don't like to be told how to play. I bet you don't like it either. The mechanics that you have a problem with are well with-in the rules set forth by Mythic. If you don't like it, or are jealous of how other people play the game, then I suggest you quit. This is in no way cheating at all.
Getting to Level 50 is no big deal these days for those who are Pl'd or not. Because someone has a level 50 character doesn't mean they are competitive in RvR since hitting 50 is only 1/2 the way to being competitive.
