"No MMO launch is flawless." This was not a MMO launch, it was a regional launch for a MMO already out.
AA is a highly successful game from Korea, why is it launching with these issues in the west? I think I can say without checking that the Korean game is not full of bots and spam.
One of the attractions to me when I first heard about the game was that it was going to be polished as it would have been out about two years before launch here. Instead we see this, I don't get it.
Agreed, 1000%.
This is the first time I have seen anyone writing that the game has been a big success in Korea.
I thought the general opinion was that the game had failed in both Korea and Russia?
It's in the same sense that most sub games in the West haven't failed totally, but were in danger of failing at one time or another. In other words, it had to change its business model. So just like every other MMO, it went F2P for all the same reasons. It wasn't a failure, but it certainly wasn't the desired outcome.
I just want to give my quick thought about points raised in this article, concerning Archeage launch:
Judging from my experience of watching, and taking part in, all big MMORPG launches in previous years, my guess is that non of the points, brought up in the article, will matter in the long run.
Hundreds of thousands of players don't leave this games after first two - three months, because of chat spam or bots. Yes, if the economy will be broken because of gold farmers and bots, it will make people quit the game, but not because of the spam and bots themselves.
What makes everybody quit this kind of games after short time is simple:
either game is boring, repetitive, not fun, carbon-copy of all the previous games, and everybody either start a new game, or get back to the old one they know and love,
or
it is simply broken - it has many bugs that make it unplayable, some skills and classes are not functioning, there is no balance in PvP, the engine itself is broken (which is the worst case, because, most of the time, it takes months to repair it)
I didn't notice, or read about, Archeage being broken and full of bugs from the technical or gameplay point of view, so it comes down, as always, to one question: Is the game fun, refreshing, does it have high repeatability and longetivity value, are the in-game systems (PvP, crafting, trading, et cetera) well thought out and functioning, is the world interesting and designed well. This is what makes or brakes the game, not chat spam and bots.
When I first tried EVE, many years after release, first thing I saw was huge chat spam, from all kind of gold sellers. Second thing I've noticed was that nobody cared.
ArcheAge is not recommended. Turn around right now. Find another game. Keep your wallet closed.
Bots, Spammers, Lack of land, Poor questing, Pissy Community. Trion is powerless and helpless.
The lack of land is probably the worst. Without land, you will be missing a great part of what makes ArcheAge special. Don't believe the spewing nonsense about "plenty of land - just goota look for it" or "lots of land in PvP zones". I joined one of the last servers to come up, and the land is gone, gone, gone. Worse, as land frees up, predatory guilds allegedly run hacks to scoop it up.
Stay far, far away from this one.
Totally agree.. never felt so bad about wasting money on a game like now on AA. Have a archeum account, such a waste.. Building space gone within two days on my server, and I did have headstart! Thanks to que's ranging from 4 to 6 hours (with patron status!) there where whole days lost where you could not play. Have a small garden, but that get's old fast. Pve get's boring fast. It is nice to use a glider and a mount, but not enough to tie you to this game. Going on water is not something you can do alone or you will be ganked. If you plan on doing things solo, you will end up nowhere and get bored with this game fast. Maybe I will take a look in 6 months or even a year to see it there are people left playing it (besides bots, scammers and spammers) But there is no way I will ever put any cash into this game again.
I'm sorry to write it, but learn to MMO. I didn't pay a single $ for Archeage, I downloaded it a week after the release (not the head-start), I created character on new server with no queues.
After two months nobody, including you, will care that you started the games 2 weeks earlier. If you were planning to play for only two months, than paying 100$ or 150$, or however ridiculously high price it was, for some kind of 'extra-advantage-full-premium-thank4yo$sucker' package/account/bundle, was bad idea in the first place.
Really, learn 2 MMO and start having fun, not getting frustrated, while playing new MMOs. Have some patience, self-discipline, foresight and wisdom.
You got this right angerbaver, any sandbox game with open pvp element, is not a smart idea to play the game by yourself, some people should have realized this if they ever touched EVE, Darkfall, Dayz and etc, if not then I say welcome to an open pvp game community? lol.
Any popular mmo will be infested with this cancer no matter what studio or publisher try to defeat them.
Blizzard / NCsoft / Zenimax / Trion.......
I turned off Faction chat and farm those bots for honor and even report them for 25 extra labor.
In the end i dont care about them anymore as i try to ignore this lost battle against them.
The real pain is that its players who keep these site's and cancer alive in gaming and i hope one day a studio can perma ban these players and bots and share their internet adress to other studio's.
Its way to easy with dynamic ip's and proxy's to ignore such bans atm.
But at some point this has to stop...and i hope the players who keep supporting this cancer are perma banned from online gaming by new technology that can make this crap go away.

Totally agree. You would think people would learn not to buy from them.
The other thing you want to take into consideration about this game is the lack of latency accommodation. I test my ping regularly (due to pvp gaming) and my ping average is between 25-30.... average ping with ArcheAge is 71 and there is no ability queue system for the game. This all adds up to random cooldowns on your abilities and random lag spikes in combat. Sometimes your abilities could be 1 sec and other times it could take 2-3 sec to fie off the same ability. For an online pvper and gamer this is very frustrating!
The bots are the least of what Trion and XL Games should be concerned about. With a pvp focused game... the more lag and latency spikes players get, the more the mass exodus will become. I know many who have left the game already because of instability with the servers.
I agree with everything. Archeage has a lot of problems at the moment. But for some reason it is the first time since Vanilla WoW that I am addicted to an MMO. If they manage to get the bot/spam situation in order I'm sure it will do very well and probably claim the #2 spot behind WoW (in total subscribers).
Most of the chat spammers have been dealt with. Really nice to see that taken care of so effectively. As for you who hate/quit already, see ya! Thanks for opening up a spot in the game for either more land or friendly players..:)

What game are you playing, it certainly isn't AA. Just logged in again to see if that were true and the gold spammers were doing their usual and immediately saw 3 obvious bots, one teleporting around. Good grief how could they not see this coming.
First off, this game has been running in Korea for over a year. There is absolutely no excuse for the spammers, bots or the teleporters except that XLGames does not have the expertise to fix it. Seriously, I don't know any other major titles that have such problems, does not say much for the developers.
The article really cracked me up, after writing about all the problems, he says he is enjoying the game. The absurdity of that statement is something else.
I just cannot believe they charge people LP for reporting someone. That has to be the most ridiculous thing I have heard about this game.
You really have to be a masochist to play this game. I guess I am just glad there are so many better games out there that don't have these problems.
This game has wrapped up the yearly fickle finger of fate award for the worst launch ever.
*Ding*
All the excuses in the world are made for this game, DESPITE the fact that it has been in live release on overseas servers for more than 1 year.
And the LP cost for reporting someone is hilarious... like you aren't doing Trion a favor by reporting the bots/spammers. (Lol on the whole LP system in general, for those paying a sub.)
I tried this thing on a beta weekend, and it was enough for me. Skipped it and glad I did.
If people didn't buy gold, there would be no spammers/bots.
If people only took the land they needed, there would be no shortage.
Hasla is a good thing. It gives people a space to congregate to looking for large PvP battles. If you don't like it, don't do it. The crafted stuff is better anyway.
The problem is, has, and will always be the players. If this game falls, it will be the player's fault. Guild Wars 2's WvW was ruined by players all stacking to the top servers looking for free wins. DAoC had a similar issue with people stacking to the side that controlled all the relics. This game is unique but the problem is still the same.
If players are taking advantage of problems in the game then the developers didn't properly design the game.

Yes MMOs have rocky launches and Ive seen many but 8 HOUR que times is just absurd
and a disgrace to patron members who I was until yesterday.
LETS talk about he worst part of the game though that centers on making money off the economy...
Land is scarce especially when some players own more than 20 PLOTS and patrons dont own any....
New player???? good luck you will either be grinding towards 50 never owning any land or paying real money to cash shops upwards of 200 real dollars just to buy some land...
Sound like fun to you? NO no its not.....so take my advice stay away...
You wanna know who is saying to calm down that it will settle down? All the players
who hold all the wealth in the game just like with other MMMOs
Only legit point is the botting, and to some point the housing...
Hasla, took me about maybe 2-3 Hours of game time for T1. Allready a few tokens in into T2, as soon as we get them.
There is no Grind in lvling, getting gear imo. Its just that ppl are used to get done in a week and get to the next hype mmo.
Spam cost me about 5 min gametime, got them blacklisted faster then trion was blocking them.
or in other words before you guys write a review/preview/summary.....actually play the damn game more then a few hours or inform your self if the info is still legit before youpost it ...
love this side for some short time infos, but the most articels are a waste of time ....
There's a TON of land in the game that could easily hold houses; land that has neither flora nor fauna on it. Why they've relegated housing to these little suburbs is beyond me. (Especially after Ultima Online had non-instanced housing thoroughly figured out YEARS ago.)
There should also be limits to how many homes can be owned per account. (Again, something UO figured out and implemented in THE LAST MILLENNIUM.)

I think it is because they want to foster a the true value of being the landowning class and the value of labor, just like the real world.
Hence why they also implemented labor points.
If land has not specific purposes like in SWG then they would've never cared about labor points and limited amount of land and instead let people run factories.
They want people to trade labor vs material and so forth, thus creating a microcosm of society and a need for guild or family relationship.
Oh I have an idea I know what Trion could do, they could have their CEO go on social media and mock and make fun of angry and upset customers who paid a lot of money to play Archeage.

Ocean going ship battles are real.
Fighting for control of Freedich Island is real.
Which has made the fun of the last several days real, for me.
All die, so die well.
There is no escape from gold sellers and bots.
