As an Archeage Founder I have been playing AA for months. I knew what it was about . I knew it was a themebox (Sandpark?). I knew there were elements of themepark games and elements of Sandbox games and open PVP. I knew everything was expensive and took time to do such as crafting and farming. I knew the game changes once you get to the 30th level Area. I new I would be Ganked ( a lot) by my own faction. I knew it would be a long time before I would be ae the level ( Gear wise) to have a chance at being really good at PVP. I knew it was a guild based game. I knew if you arent in a guild you are not going anywhere. I knew there was limited land and if I wasnt fast I wouldnt get any.
I knew all these things but I knew them Way before I started the game. My question is . Why didnt you? The game has been out a while. 1000s of reviews previews posts have been made about AA. People wanted Sandbox theme games but then they complain " things take to long to do it takes forever to get the sword I want" Well lets mention another Sandbox game . EVE . There are Shipes that take 12 months to craft .
So in the end . what did you expect out of AA ?
What didnt you know?
Why didnt you know?

Well Archage has it flaws for sure and lacks some polish as well. But I haven't this much fun in a MMO since vanilla WoW. As far as it being grindy I'm glad it is a grindy and I'm glad crafting takes time to level. I'm sure this game won't be everyone's cup of tea for sure (looking at you wow addicts) but it is pretty fun so far. I see a lot of hate lately on pretty much every game released these days and I'm sure ARchage is going to get a lot of hate as well, but if you give this game a chance you might be surprised.
I wanted everything that I got, because, like you OP, I researched the game before becoming involved with it.
It has actually exceeded my expectations in regards of just how cooperative, social, and fun it actually is.
It isn't perfect, it has flaws, and the launch was messy, but the fun outweighs those flaws to such a huge degree for me that I can live with them.
Accessibility and monetization are the big failures of this game.
Labor Points is the worst idea ever created to be used as a controller/governor. Many things in the game aren't just grindy, they are EXTREMELY grindy. Like, Dragon Warrior grindy. Im sure there are masochists out there that love that stuff, but it's a very small crowd.
That's it really...I too knew what the game was about and didnt go in thinking anything different. But with those two elements above it was clear that this game was built to be more of a slot machine than an MMORPG
I wanted the feeling of a true MMO. Community (It sucks) Chat (it really sucks) and the game making me feel like im part of something, making me feel welcome and helping me to play. I didn't get that feeling at all.

Had I known about: the queues, bots, spammers, bugs, and land-grab hacks, I would not have even downloaded the game. It's overrun by these issues.
Thinking about ArcheAge? Don't bother. Keep your wallet closed. Trion is impotent against the bots, spammers, and other hacks. The land situation is horrible (but probably will improve, in time.)
Stay far, far, far away from this game.
I ask this question all the time on these boards.
I have only once been "negatively" surprised by a game and that was because I didn't have a lot of experience with mmo's so instead of taking what they said at face value I inferred my own "definition" of what the game would be from what they said.
Other than that, every game since that has come out was always what I thought the game was going to be from what the developers said.
heck, I went into my first mmo knowing what the downsides were and I was pleasantly surprised.
