If possible, convince me to play...

tkoreapertkoreaper Member UncommonPosts: 412

Let me start by giving some background. I started playing PC games way back in the year 2000, maybe earlier, I'm not exactly sure. The first online game I ever played was a FPS called Delta Force: Land Warrior which I became obsessed with at the time lol. Then I moved on to another FPS in 2003 called Planetside which has remained my "baby" til this very day. It was replaced by it's sequel of course. I also started my first MMORPG in 2004... WoW. I played that for many years along side Planetside and all was good. I would occasionally take breaks from both games since they were subscription based and play some Runescape.

Eventually I grew tired of WoW and started playing Rift during beta and remained with it for a year or so. After I got tired of Rift's poor engine I just floated around to every game I could find. I was just lost ever since. No game would grab me enough to get me hooked beyond reaching max level. Games like GW2 and Wildstar just got extremely boring, but they were good fun for a bit. I absolutely loved The Secret World, but I couldn't get anyone to play with me and the combat system got really annoying. Then I picked up FFXIV: ARR and I feel at home again... There's just so much to do.

Now that I got that out of the way I would like for you all to convince me to play AA. I would prefer to hear opinions from those who spent a lot of time with FFXIV so that they can off some input into both games. I don't want to leave FFXIV cause I have a great group of friends I run around with, but if there's something out there that is better then I'd like to at least try it.

I did try AA during it's beta. I got to level 8 or so and just said "screw this" and quit because it felt like more of the same and the quests were absolutely horrid. I expected the graphics to be better than they were. They just seemed plain and washed out. So with this all been said, convince me to give it an honest try.

If you need convincing, it's a certainty you won't like this game at all.  And since you said screw it once, you will say screw it again.  This game is not for you.

No offense but why would anyone want to convince you to play? Much less after you have already tried and quit the game. Its Free, go play and convince yourself, or not.

I would leave it six month and take a look at it when things settle down a bit . Its not a terrible game but it does have its problems at the moment .

Have to agree with everyone else. You shouldn't need anyone else to convince you. You either want to play it or you don't. Seems like - for the time being - you don't. Nothing wrong with that.

Follow your own mind. Think for yourself.

Well, the graphics have been completely overhauled since the beta. They are now not plain and washed out. The quests have been completely re-written since the beta as well. So, chances are, you'll find it's a completely different gaming experience than what you had in the beta.

The difference between FFXIV and AA is night and day.

If you are a PVP fan you will most definitely find AA to be fun, I think....I dont PVP so I don't know.

But if you like FFXIV for what it is, I would think that you would not like AA.

The graphics are not as good, the dungeons (played the first) can't touch FFXIV and the community is about as different as an elephant is to a mouse.

The crafting and farming is very grindy and it all goes into the same progression, not different like FFXIV.

If you like content, the PVE content that AA does have is reminiscent of typical asian grinders.  It's more about the freedom you have to do other things than the content.

There is no other tab targeting, trinity, open world, high water, sandpark available. So if you want to try something different, here is your chance.

Just have to make it through the level grind to get the feeling of freedom that only a sandbox games can offer.

Huh? I am thinking you are being sarcastic, but not sure.  The quests / combat in AA are about as generic as you can get.  I dont think the graphics are bad though.

I played FFXIV for a while and enjoyed it, but I could not quite get over the hump of the slow combat.  If they sped up the combat just a bit I would probably resub.  FFXIV has so much stuff to do its overwhelming.  Archage has tons and tons of things to do for crafters, but unfortunately everything you do costs labor points.  If you want to be a crafting specialist you will have to pick a couple things unlike FFXIV where you can max it all.  In Archage you will be out of points in no time.

For the record, my first and one of my favorite MMOs was FFXI and lol the pvp in that game...  and I'm a huge fan of Archeage, too.  It's possible to like different kinds of MMOs.

But generally I think some of you are right in saying that if you're really into PVE, you probably won't like Archeage.  The quests are as bad as they get, but they only took me 3 days to get through.  For the past few weeks I've barely done a single quest except a few dailies.  99% of my time is spent PVPing, farming, trade-runs or group events like large-scale intercontinental trade-run attempts.

Thing is I don't play MMOs to fight against mob AI.  I can do that in single player games.  I play them to play with and against people.  That's why I liked FFXI so much, because of it's (oft-hated) forced grouping, you were always playing with other people.

Well looks like its up to me.

PLAY THIS GAME OR THE KITTEH GETS IT!!!!! That is all.

In all seriousness nobody has any idea what game you will like but you. You can try Archeage out totally free no strings attached. I'd say doing that will get you an answer far faster than anything any one of us could tell you.

If you are enjoying final fantasy why even try to play something else.   You could do I like do and switch up the games about every 3 months so you don't get burnt out on any one game.  I make my rounds thru about 4 games right now.  I go back to each one about 2 or 3 times a year for a while.  The only way this wouldn't work is if you want to be a massive raider or end gamer, which in my opinion is a waste of time because it just gets replaced in a couple of months with the new raid, etc.

But back to your question.  There is no way to convince you to play it.  You either want to give it a try or you don't.  It's free to play with a pretty bad f2p system in place that limits you as far as crafting goes but you can take a look and make the decision for yourself.

    This^

He already tried it and did not like it.

The game is f2p. Why do I suspect a bit of trolling in the OP?

No, for reals, they added an 11 setting to the graphics slider. So if you need that extra push over the cliff, you know what you do? You turn it up to 11!!

tbh if you finished the level grind, the grind is just really starting to begin. That´s my biggest issue with the game. Before i can do what i want to do (pvp) i have to do a lot of things i don´t want to do (grinding). So if you managed to level to 50 you don´t have many possibilities in gearing up. And you have to gear up, AA is very and i mean really very gear dependent.

So you start in a region called hasla where you start to farm mobs in one location there. They drop 6 different tokens and if you have 150 of one sort you can craft the corresponding weapon. Unfortunately you can not farm one specific kind of mob to get one specific kind of token, the mobs drop them randomly. And also unfortunately there are of course other players in the area, so you will compete for the mobs. In EU hasla is overrun by players, even in the morning, so farming there can be frustrating. Hasla weapons have nearly double dps than the weapons you get from your last quest chain at ~49, so you want that weapons.

Second option is crafting. There goes your grind again because crafting is really lenghty and complex in this game. And it is gated by labour points which is a kind of currency which you spend when you craft something and that regenerates over time. So you can only craft until your labour points are down to 0 then you have to wait until you regenerate (or you buy labour point potions from the cash shop ^^) . In higher level, crafting is also very rng dependent because you can not tell what stats will be on the things you craft. But on the other hand, crafted items are the best items ingame. Because of the complexity of crafting, high level items are ridiculous expensive.

Third option is dungeons (for armor, jewlery) , but if you want to find a dungeon group you will need at least hasla weapons, otherwise it will be difficult to find a group.

AA is just one big grind, be it for equipment or money if you are into trade runs. I gave up, i leveled my toon to 50 and checked what AA has to offer in endgame. Not my cup of tea, i like games where i can login and do something i have fun with. To do that in AA i have to invest an insane amount of time with boring things before i am able to do that.

I am a Patron. I play on Lucius. I have given this company 15.00 of my money.

I have gotten in return for that investment over the last 12 days:

I have a small house(finished) right outside The City of Two Towers (a safe zone) prime realestate.

I have a Large farm outside my front door and 3 small farms withing 100 yards of my house.

I have a Clipper ship (just finished the 3 packs necessary to build last night) Launching it today.

I have a trade donkey(level24) for land trade runs

    I have a horse mount(fully armored) level 26

I have a Muppet mount(never use) I hate the East human default muppet mount.

I just crafted my first furniture for my house last nite (Bed) gives bonus labor when logging off

I have 184 gold in the bank from overland trade pack runs. Now with my boat being finished I'm switching to sea trades.

I am in a GREAT guild "The Debauchery Tea Party" 220 members

I haven't participated in...nor have any intention of ...unless jumped...any PVP

I'm playing the greatest crafting and merchant trading game I have ever experienced.

I've played EVERY MMORPG since U.O. This is a better version of SWG pre-CU.

I get up early before going to work in real life to harvest and feed and harvest my animals.

I have not had this much fun in a game ever.

This is what WURM online could have been if Rolf had ever gotten financial backers and gotten away from JAVA

So there ya go. Only Patrons can have this many opportunities to advance this quickly. It's 15.00 a month.

You gotta ask yourself....is it worth it to you.

If you join Lucius look me up. I'm OxBow on the Eastern continent. Happy to invite you into my guild and help you any way I can.

It's better to lurk in forums and be thought a fool...than to endlessly "Quote" and remove all doubts.

For the record I got my Hasla staff in 3 peacetime sessions of Hasla.  So 6 hours of grinding for a really good endgame weapon.  That's not really that much.  Plus it's rage-inducing competative grinding lol for extra fun.

Of course it matters when you go and your server.  I got the bulk of my tokens on off-hours (like 4-6am).

Armor is much harder to get (and argueably more important as people will be hitting you with those Halsa and PVP weapons), but you can basically just buy them.  For that you need gold, which can get grindy trying to get, but there are some risky and high-reward ways to get lots of gold fairly fast.

Then you are really lucky, 6h is not that much. I had in ~4h around 20 token in sum and i think about 7 of the ones i needed. It is is really crowded on my server regardless of the time.

Just highlighted a few items that are no longer available in game.  Since we are out of land most of the highlighted items are either not possible or much diminished.  Maybe in a couple months it might be possible to get land again but right now it isn't available.

You can still have fun doing piracy or pvp.  The quests are rather plain and very linear.  However after 30 they are in PvP zones which definitely adds some spice to questing :)

You can do trade runs using stuff bought off the marketed although profits are a lot slower.  If you do go for a patron account you can build a small garden in a temporary zone.  Your garden will self destruct every week and you will need to rebuild it.  Although I'm not sure how long that space will last as some people are using multiple accounts and creating multiple temporary farms.  Seems to me like space in the temporary area has been decreasing over time... although for now it is still available.

You either want to play it or you don't.  Read up on some stuff.  Watch some videos.  Don't want to do that?  Odds are, you don't want to play.  Coming to this site to ask people to "convince you" to play is asinine.

Now convince me to stop posting.
