Rift: Nightmare Tide Release Delayed

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Rift team has announced that the next expansion, Nightmare Tide, has had its release date pushed back to October 22nd. The good news is that the open beta for the expansion will continue until near that point.

Hail Ascended, and thanks for your awesome feedback from the Nightmare Tide Open Beta so far. We’ve been listening to your feedback, which is so incredibly valuable to us, and are working to address your suggestions and concerns. As a result, we’ve decided to extend Open Beta for an additional two weeks, which means the launch date for Nightmare Tide will be pushed back to Oct. 22.

Our goal is to make Nightmare Tide the best expansion you’ve played, and our new launch date gives us time to batten down the hatches … and blow you out of the water.

In the meantime, jump into Beta, give us feedback, and help ensure we make this the best expansion we possibly can – together. We want and will act on your feedback as Nightmare Tide storms ashore!

Yeah you are right since 'one' team of dev is working on all the three games.

I'm not sure how much of an impact things like Archeage have had on Rift customer support - but something has holed the ship here.

Trion rightly built up a name for excellent support / response to player issues. Now? Well something has happened to deteriorate this to the point of near non-existence for Rift.

Staff cuts? Other projects? Apathy?  I don't pretend to know the full reasons, but it's a real shame that previous high standards have been allowed to drop this far.

More over time, for Defiance, they may had cut down support due to when Defiance did so badly back then, soon as trove came out so thats added more work on the support team it was slow but took a few days, then! as soon as arch age was put in, so then people can play it then even more work load on the support team.

But yes they mess up on not dealing with this befor arch age came out, but now they have mostly so much back logs trickets, even if they get new people when they said they are, just going take time for them to get all the tickets in and where support was befor over a year ago.

The rage going on about this is nothing compared to the excrement storm that is growing about the voidstone weekly cap and people working out how long it will take them to gear up.

There are still White Knights running improbable defence, but a heck of a lot of people are getting sick of changes and attitudes developing from some of  the dev team. It won't effect the way I play, much, but will have a huge effect on others, and I think it might make a lot stop playing all together, especially some of the minor raiding and casual guilds.  But above all, what I see happening, is a major oncoming problem, as a lot of the people posting appear to be sick of Daglars attitude to it all. Just the feeling I get, but it appears to be growing.

The entire attitude changed when the game went ftp. Now it's like they believe we should feel lucky they let us play because there is no monthly fee and we could, in theory at least, play forever without spending a penny.

Daglar reminds me of McQuaid during the first year or so of EQ. For example he believes everyone should play both the PvP and PvE aspects of the game whether you like both or not so instead of making each aspect so appealing to the other camp they want to play, the game design simply forces you to play both. He will not move an inch from this stance.

All design decisions seem to come down to how cheaply can it be implemented. The cheapest solution always wins over player satisfaction. The expansion combines PvP and PvE gear into one set using "optimal player experience" as a reason. The boards blow up hating the idea but there is no budge on it, it is cheaper to maintain one set of itemization so there you go, eat it or go hungry.

The expansion is done completely on the cheap. The "mastery" system is there solely because it's much cheaper to implement than new soul points for each class. The PA system is unchanged even though most of the players are capped on it and will be level capped in a week after the expansion drops. Combat banners numbers are unchanged even though the stat numbers are vastly inflated making them mostly useless. The new zones repeat the same MOB skins over and over for differently named creatures. The list goes on and on, everything done on the cheap because you know "you should feel lucky we let you play at all because it doesn't cost anything".

There are almost infinite numbers of specs you can create and these need to be balanced yet there are exactly two class devs for the entire game.

You want to trace the beginning of the end of Rift? Hartsman leaves, the game goes FtP and the entire attitude at Trion shifts.

I still play but I can see myself leaving without looking back. I want to give Trion a chance to recover but there comes a time when you have to say "enough is enough".

    Just my opinion.

Completely their fault. Company should plan release at least one month after they are sure software can be ready for release. Their mistake releasing two products (ok, for AA they are only publisher, but it is their NAME on it, too) so close. And big mistake releasing now Rift close to Wod. I have purchased Rift expansion when I have seen planned release date and was hoping to play at least month before Wod is released, which will keep me busy for half year aprox. Then would return. Now I have cancelled my Rift sub and will play after half year or more. And if I knew would not buy expansion now when I'm a little short on money but then. So two big minuses in a row for Trion.

But hey at least you can go back to perfect land if you wish, though i'm sure after seeing the world you will not be allowed back in. Oh i also should tell you that...things happen at the last minute that tend to delay just about everything you do.

Both sides have good points in this argument. Its good that they are trying to wait to fix the bugs and such but its also bad stating a date when you are not fully prepared. With that said, they still have a lot of Storm Legion bugs that have existed for a while that I wish they would finally fix.
